Moving triage into the exam room will give patients more privacy. By using a healthcare recliner instead of a bed it lets the patient and provider be at the same eye level which creates more trust and comfort between them. Clerestory windows allow natural light to come through into each exam room no matter the time of day.

nurse station/ exam hallway Typically, there is one nurse station designated for a large area in clinics or hospitals. Research has shown that splitting it up into touchdown stations that are evenly distributed throughout the area provide quicker access to equipment and records for the nurses. Each station is equipped with storage for equipment and medications, computers to keep records, and counter space for working.
work cafe/ private offices Providing a place where the employees can go to work on paper work, socialize, eat, and learn is paramount to any work setting. Hospital staff spend most of their day on their feet, having a place to step out and sit for a moment when they can is important to their health.
The public area is surrounded by private offices which allow them to feel more connected to the other employees. The floor plan shows how the work cafe in the back of the building offers multiple seating options and desk space for those needing to spread out.

Wellness house Project summary: Project Medium: Revit and Photoshop Date of Completion: November 2017 Type of Project: Residential
The obesity epidemic in America has quickly grown over the last ten years. Andrew was recently told to lose weight to avoid a heart attack. Because of his lifestyle changes, his wife Emma also lost weight. They have a 10 year old daughter, that they would like to set a healthy example for. They have the budget to build their dream house and want the house to promote an active and healthy lifestyle using evidence based design. The goal of the project was
to design a home that promoted overall wellness in both physical and emotional health. The house is located in Mount Tabor, Portland, Oregon. They have chosen this location because Portland is one of the most active cities in the United States. The neighborhood offers breathtaking mountain views, hiking trails, and is an easy walk away from downtown Portland. It is the perfect place for the family to focus on living a healthy lifestyle.
The kitchen is often referred to as the heart of the home. Providing substantial storage solutions helps keep the counters free of appliances. Under counter refrigerators offer more space to store fresh foods and are a great place to keep healthier snacks that are easily accessible by children as well. Multiple counter heights provide a space for everyone to feel welcome and a part of the family in the kitchen. Folding glass doors connect the kitchen to the rest of the house. When the doors are closed the kitchen can still feel connected to the other living areas while keeping the smell of food separate from the rest of the house.

living room Communication is key to create a healthy family. Technology has changed the way we interact as families. By keeping the living room free of electronics such as the tv, it creates a space where conversation and interaction is encouraged. Comfortable seating, soft textures, and calming colors help relax the residents creating a space where they can focus on their mental and emotional health as a family. Floor to ceiling windows provide beautiful views to their backyard. It has been proven that having access to nature can improve your mental and physical health.
master bedroom The master bedroom should be a relaxing oasis to detox your mind after a busy day. Soft grays and blues create a relaxing atmosphere. Multiple seating options provides the couple with a variety of choices to spend time together and relax. Similar to the living room, technology is kept out of the bedroom design. Studies prove that couples who leave the television out of their room sleep better and have better communication in their relationship. A balcony connected to the room provides private access to the beautiful view of Mount Tabor. Rocking chairs were placed on the balcony because they are relaxing and can be beneficial to an active lifestyle because they keep you active while staying seated.
Who says everyday can’t feel like a trip to the spa? A master bathroom with luxurious counter tops, tile, and wood on the floor and ceiling create a warm, light filled escape from everyday life. Clerestory windows on three walls in the wet room will let natural light in which will help the couple wake up and feel energized in the mornings. The wet room is equipped with two shower heads, a large free standing tub, and a bench for storage and seating. A large walk in closet and enclosed toilet room are connected to the master bathroom.

native: boutique fitness With the boutique fitness trend on the rise, we were tasked to work with a marketing and graphic design team to create a branded boutique fitness studio. In response, we designed Native, a rockclimbing and circuit training workout boutique. We collected inspiration from nature and created a sense of community. We provided an outlet for our clients to escape from the civilized world and unleash their primal instincts in their workout.

The back workout area includes more permanent circuits such as rope climbing, bungee resistance training, an angled rock wall, and monkey bars. The garage door in-between the bungee circuit and the rope climbing area can be raised to combine the two separate circuits into one. The plexiglas cut outs on the rock wall in the main workout area make the two spaces feel connected and allow people in both areas to see what is happening in the other. The top of the rock wall is made entirely out of glass and allows viewers in the Canopy CafĂŠ to see down into the back workout area.

front workout room The front workout area is home to the two story rock wall. The other workout options in the front room are interchangeable and are often switched out for different classes. The interchanging workout stations provide members the choice to create a new experience and a new workout every time they come to Native so working out will never get dull and repetitive.

NEXT is a global architecture and interior design firm with 15 locations and 1,000 employees across the Americas, Europe, and Asia. The company has been in business for over 40 years and is headquartered in New York City. NEXT has several current practice areas including Corporate, Government, Healthcare, Education, Retail, Sports and Hospitality. In a recent real estate market shift, several competitors, large clients, and design vendors have moved
into downtown Los Angeles. The lease on NEXT’s existing Santa Monica office is expiring and they have decided to follow the action by moving to the downtown area. The design for the new office space is inspired by Los Angeles’ bright urban culture. The streets are covered in colorful quirky murals that inspire the residents to live creative lives. The color palette is energizing and fun and will help bring new life and energy to the office building.
The first floor of the office holds most of the action with all the private offices, the materials library, machine room, work cafe, and open office space spread out on the floor. The mezzanine houses the BIM/VR training room, a large conference, and a variety of collaboration and quite spaces for employees. The work cafe is large enough for the office to have all staff meetings when reps come. A kitchenette is provided for the staff to prepare their meals. Multiple seating and table options are provided in the work cafe.

open office To the right of the reception area is the maker space, the work cafe, and open office space. The open office is designed to support different groups of workers and provide employees the choice of where they will work each day. There are several spots placed throughout the office for the employees to come together and collaborate on their projects before going back to their own desk and working. The urban design of NEXT’s new office space will encourage employees to get up and walk around as they would through the city streets below.

living room/ dining room Johan Erikson is a systems consultant remodeling a luxury two-story loft building in downtown historic Boston. The building has a lobby and rental apartments on one half of the building and a personal apartment for Mr. Erikson on the other half. The client wants his space to be influenced by his Icelandic heritage as well as his modern, eclectic style. When thinking about Icelandic culture, the most obvious characteristic is its connection with nature. With such beautiful landscapes, it’s extremely evident to see how a group of people could love the space around them, but their appreciation does not stop with the scenery. Everything in Iceland is open and accepting, from the environment, to interacting with neighbors, even down to political viewpoints.
This is evident in their environmentally friendly design through the use of negative space, simplistic decor, and large windows that create a considerable amount of light in a space and allow the users to appreciate the scenery. These principles of light, space, and line come together in harmony in the design of the loft apartment. A natural variety is found among the eclectic style of the apartment with the juxtaposition of texture, color, and size. In example, a modern staircase rises along the old-fashioned facade of the building and the very open lobby leads to small, enclosed entryways to each apartment.
kitchen
The kitchen is equipped with luxury appliances. The navy blue color of the push-to-open cabinets from Poggenpohl provide a sleek and clean look to the space. Black stone counter tops with waterfall edges and a black shiplap ceiling create a sense of drama in the design
office
The master bedroom and bathroom are kept rather simple in design. The owner wanted a place to rest and relax at the end of the day after having a lot of visual stimulation through the work day. The master bathroom is designed with a wet room holding a standing shower and a soaking tub allowing the owner to unwind at the end of the day.
