Welcome Hello! I am so honored you contacted me to take your portraits! My goal as your photographer is to make this process as easy and simple as possible. I believe there is much more to the art of photography than just pictures, so I strive to make your whole photography experience incredible! I want you to feel comfortable in front of my lens, which will create relaxed, truly genuine images. I take a select number of clients each year to make sure we are the PERFECT fit for each other! the process The Design Session
This is a brief (30-45 min) consultation during which I listen to your expectations regarding your portrait session. I also offer my own suggestions and custom design a session to fit your needs. Pricing and all aspects of the process will be discussed. This session will conclude with booking an appointment for the portrait and ordering sessions.
The Portrait Session
This is the most fun session- we’ll actually take your pictures! This shoot is on location, depending on what we have decided during your design session. The portrait session usually lasts between 1-2 hours- probably the most fun you’ll have all day! I’ll guide you through posing to make sure you feel comfortable and your images look great!
The Ordering Session
This is a time that has been set aside at my in-home studio exculsively for you. You will have the opportunity to view your images from the portrait session and make your final selections. This session concludes with you placing your order and making payment on the gorgeous printed investments in your images!

f r e q u e n t ly ask e d qu e stio n s Where are you located? I’m located in San Diego and photograph all over southern California, the New YorkNew Jersey-Pennsylvania tristate area as well as Charleston, South Carolina! I love to travel to new places too! What is your style? I would describe my style as directed photojournalism. I’m a story teller at heart but I also know how it feels to be in front of a camera and not know what to do! Most of my clients have never been professionally photographed before so I will guide you through your entire session to make sure your images make you look like a pro while telling your story in a unique way! How far in advance should I book my session? The earlier the better! I like to keep portrait shoots during the week to reserve weekends for weddings and other special events (like spending time with my husband!) but I’m flexible! If you need your photographs by a certain date, I recommend booking 1-2 months in advance to account for editing and delivery time. Is the time of our session important? There IS a best time to take pictures during the day and I love to shoot during those times! Immediately after sunrise and about 2 hours before sunset are considered the “golden hours” where the light is soft, and incredibly flattering. These are the best times to shoot to achieve images like the ones I post most frequently in my galleries! How long does it take to receive my photos? Your images will be ready within a few days for you to look over and choose your favorites! Then, within a week of your session we’ll have a complimentary consultation to decide how you would like to display your favorite images in your home! After you place your order, the files of all the images you purchased will be sent to you on a custom USB drive! How many images do I receive? Are they edited? At your consultation, you’ll see anywhere from 50-125 edited images depending on the type of shoot we had, and the length of time I was shooting. You will receive the edited files for every image you purchase- either with small prints, gallery canvases or the images used in an album. 6 | katieyuenphotography.com
f r e q u e n t ly ask e d qu e stio n s Do I have permission to print the photos? Can I use them on Facebook? Yes! Yes! I invite my clients to make small prints up to 8”x 10”of their photos either through their online gallery, or through a trustworthy lab like mpix.com. Any images larger than 8”x12” require higher printing standards and a closer attention to detail so I insist that you order images that are 11”x 14” and larger through me. These images will receive additional retouching, color correction and sharpening to ensure that the photos you love will look absolutely perfect on your wall, no matter the size. The products I offer are guaranteed to be archival, so they will not yellow or fade for at least 100 years, which is not something you can be guaranteed through inexpensive online labs or drugstore prints. Once you receive your files you can upload them anywhere on the internet as long as you please credit with Photography by Katie Yuen in the caption. :) Do you have any suggestions on where we should do the shoot? Do you travel? Often, the best locations for a shoot are the places that have significance for you! I have a list of locations around Downtown, Coronado, Mission Valley and more but I definitely recommend taking a drive around your neighborhood to find any well lit spots that you really like! Its more about the light than the location, so we could shoot anywhere! I will travel anywhere in the world if you hire me to photograph you, you just have to get me there! I’m a NYC native and I will be located in Charleston, SC beginning in 2015 so travel to those areas can be negotiated for a discounted price. What should I wear? This is the most popular question I receive! Dark, bold colors look great when they’re photographed and solid clothing is the most flattering since it brings the attention to your face. You can definitely accessorize with jewelry, scarves, hats, etc. to switch things up! Most clients change clothes at least once during their session so they have casual comfortable photos, and images that are a little more formal. I always recommend that you coordinate rather than match the outfits if there is more than one person in your session. I’m always available to discuss your options with you- we can even make a Pinterest board together to get the look you want to achieve!

WHY INVEST in printed products? Today, most photos are delivered via digital download or USB drive. All of your portraits deserve to see the light of day beyond the inside of your computer. We rely on technology but catastrophe can happen & your computer can become a box full of memories that you can’t access instantly. An album, a print, a canvas... whatever you end up investing in is a tangible item that you can keep on your coffee table, use to decorate your home, & most importantly it’s something you can pass down to your children and grandchildren. You invest a lot of money in getting your picture taken, you deserve to show them off with gorgeous heirloom products!
products gallery wrap canvases
This is the newest way to display photographs in the home and it is one of my favorites! Professionally printed, then beautifully wrapped, your canvases will come ready to hang! I’ll even come install it for you! I offer single canvases and wall displays to visually tell your stories in any room of the house! Available in sizes from 16”x20” up to 40”x60”.
framed prints
The framed portrait is the classic choice when investing in professional photography! You can choose to have your portraits matted if you’d like, and all framed prints come ready to hang. Available from 11”x14” up to 20”x30”.
books
Can’t choose just one favorite image? You can put all of your favorites into a book! Perfect for coffee tables, grandparent gifts and keeping a record of your portraits year after year! There are several types and sizes available!
fine art albums
You might be wondering the difference between a book and a fine art album and I’ll tell you: it’s all in between the covers. Fine art albums are hand stitched with fine art papers and exclusive cover materials and are a high end investment to hold your precious memories!
