executive summary

long range vision

Kearny Mesa remains as San Diego’s central employment hub transitioning from a city of manufacturing to a city of new technology industry. To support this economic growth, Kearny Mesa aims to develop into a lively community with amenities that meet the needs of its diverse employment sector. Known for its diverse regional cuisine, the Convoy Business District in Kearny Mesa will experience reactivation of cultural identity. In an effort to support these businesses, Kearny Mesa will develop active transit districts and attractive urban design elements to enhance the user experience. Public plazas that are centrally located amongst businesses will be equipped with amenities such as seating and shade for an outdoor dining experience. Through the City of Villages strategy, Kearny Mesa intends to increase it’s residential capacity through the implementation of three new multipleuse villages and one new residential land use. Kearny Mesa’s circulation infrastructure will also be revitalized into multi-modalities. The reduced streetways will allocate space for active transit and vibrant street interface. Implementation of complete streets in Kearny Mesa allows for transportation diversity while reducing the city’s greenhouse gas emissions and improving air quality.
