A Letter From the Editor...
It's easy to get lost with all the information being thrown at us. This is especially true with all the social media that's out there today, and so many different sources for knowledge. Luckily, with Fashion Forward, there is finally one solid place for all of your fashion and body image questions to be answered. Since many people see fashion and body image as "unimportant" and "superfi足 cial," Fashion Forward faces, and achieves, the challenge of show足 ing readers all the different areas of fashion, appearance and ways to feel good about the skin you're in. It's easy to look at all the celebrities and trends being thrown at us and think to ourselves, "I'm inadequate as a person because I don't fit into the standards that society has set." Fashion Forward is for young women, and aimed to bring out a side of the fashion industry that helps to educate instead of discriminate. As I looked over every piece that went into this magazine, I found myself leaving the project with a better sense of myself, than when I had started. By bringing a light sense of airiness to the otherwise heavy topic of self-esteem in the fashion world, Fashion Forward has a friendly vibe and welcomes all readers to join in and discover another side of the fashion world; one that's more open-minded to the individuality one finds in society.

Growing up the youngest in a family of four kids, I often found myself living in my siblings footsteps, never really having my own identity. That is until I came across the world of fashion. Not only was it a way to separate myself from my siblings, who had all chosen very different career paths, it was also a way for me to explore my creative side, which I had never done before. Recently, I graduated form LaSalle College in Fashion Design; I could not be happier. I finally feel like I’m doing what I’m meant to do. I look up to so many people in the world of fashion; however, Victoria Beckham is definitely number one, which is why I chose to write about her and the influence she has had on fashion. For my second article, given that FASH4WARD is all about informing the reader about all areas of fashion, I thought an article on fashion trends for the summer would be perfect. Finally, I chose to have an advice column to answer any and all questions our readers might have concerning fashion.
As a young girl growing up in a family of very mathematical and financially driven people, I blossomed in a different direction than my brother, who was only born 2 years before me. While he took after both my parents, choosing a career in Financial Analysis, I couldn’t help but answer to my creative urges. After graduating from LaSalle College with a degree in Fashion Design, I finally feel like I have found where I need to be in life. Making clothes and designing was once just a hobby but now that I have the knowledge, I am able to put it into drive. If I’m not making clothes, another one of my hobby; is cooking! I love to cook and make people happy with my food. When it came time to decide on topics for my articles, I chose the two things that are dearest to my heart, and about which I knew I could produce passionate pieces. As a teen, I knew so many beautiful young girls with low self-esteems; and that just didn’t match. I wanted to write about it, and try to inspire confidence to any young girl reading this magazine. It’s so important to take care of your body, and I really believe that sometimes it just takes one piece of writing to give you the confidence you need! I think FASH4WARD is the perfect place to get my message out.

I am a LaSalle College student, Fashion Marketing, student and photographer for FASH4WARD Magazine. I work as a Sales Associate at a High-End men and women's retail department store in Montreal and get great insights on Montreal's fashion industry. I’ve noticed that the percentage of men shopping is at an all time high. Since the recession, men have been spending more than women, which has never been seen before. Thus, I decided to dig deeper and uncovered a new phenomenon, called "metro-sexuality" where men are taking better
I am a 21 year old, LaSalle College, Fashion Marketing student and Layout Director of FASH4WARD magazine. As I am spending my summer break living the California dream, I am giving readers a little taste on how it isn’t always “rosy”. The ongoing serious drought affecting the whole state got my attention. From there, came the article, “On Your Mark, Set, Freeze Thirsty jeans”, which reflects on the short supply of water and the premium denim industry in L.A. Moreover, the hot California weather also affects hair, leaving it dry and weakened. I found and shared, in the article, “Rescue for Sun Damaged Hair”, the best hair products on the market and the best DIY hair treatments that will deep moisturize your hair. Lastly, Milan Fashion Week had everyone talking and I just couldn’t help but list the 10 best designers who had outstanding collections. From there, came the article, “A Fly by -Milan Fashion Week”.

HIRSTY JEANS he state of California, being the largest US fashion manufacturer of high end denim, is in serious drought resulting in a shortage of water supply. The expensive vintage “distressed look”, that the denim manufacturers create, is all about washing the denim multiple times, and this process consumes a lot of water to get the high end “premium” look as does the entire life cycle of the jeans. One company that is taking the lead, is Levi Strauss & Co. It is raising awareness about the water issue and producing more waterless products. In the production of their jeans, they use recycled water or waterless technology. Their goal is not only to save water but also to educate consumers about the environmental impact of

their jeans. The company’s 2007 Product lifecycle assessment LCA study had some outstanding results. The greatest water and energy impact is in the cultivation of the cotton to make the jean and the consumers use.
“The study shows that of the nearly 3,800 liters of water used throughout the lifetime of a pair of jeans, cotton cultivation (68%) and consumer use (23%) continue to have the most significant impact on water consumption. Consumer care is also responsible for the most significant energy use and climate impact [...]” “We found that by wearing jeans 10 times before washing, American consumers can reduce the water and climate change impact of washing their jeans by 77 percent, UK and French consumers by 75 percent and Chinese consumers by 61 percent”. June 2015 FASH4WARD

The results led the brand to promote awareness and reduce water usage in the manufacturing process to the point of creating waterless products. Moreover, the company has been working with the “Better Cotton initiative (BCI)” to encourage farmers around the world to use less water. More companies are now looking to invest in waterless technology’s so called “ozone machine” which is a garment processing machine using earth friendly ozone giving the stonewash look without using
consumers understand their environmental impact by showing them how much water and energy they consume compared to other countries. Because 46% of water is consumed in consumers’ hands, in 2009 Levi’s came out with “A Care Tag for
our Planet “, encouraging people to be mindful and wash their jeans less often.
In March 2015, the brand joined “Connect the drops” campaign to support the water drought in California .The drought has brought Levi to step up its save water campaign in the San Francisco Bay Area, promoting the idea that jeans only need to be washed after 10 wears.
bleaches or water.
“(The) water issue in fashion in Los Angeles is a big deal,” John Blank, economic adviser to the California Fashion Association, a trade group, told MarketWatch. Making premium denim “requires water. It is all about that processing. It is the repeated washing to get the premium look. This is what people pay for.” -Sourcehttp://www.marketwatch.com/story/why-the-fashion-indu try-is-eyeing-the-california-drought-impact-closely-2015-04-10
Although Levi Strauss & Co has saved billions of liters of water since 2011 through their waterless process reducing the usage of water in garment finishing by 96% , they can’t make a significant
change on their own. The results of the 2007 study suggest the urgent need of consumers to rethink their habit of washing their jeans after every wear.
The CEO of Levi Strauss & Co. and fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger, they say to have never washed their Levi’s . By doing so, not only you are saving water but you are also saving your jeans by keeping their shape and color. Experts recommend spaying white vinegar or vodka onto your jeans to eliminate body odours and bacteria. Another option found to kill the smell caused by bacteria is to freeze your jeans once a month by turning them inside out and putting them in the freezer for two days. Adding some baby oil to your skin before putting on your jeans can enhance a more appealing smell. Through Levi’s studies and campaigns, we have learned that the average lifecycle of a pair of jeans consumes about 3 800 liters of water, and about half that amount of liters, is due to the consumers washing machine. Levi not only took action with saving more water by creating waterless products, but they also raised awareness about the water

issue. Many other brands are in the premium denim industry and will hopefully join to support the cause and help make a change. The best way
Levis then lunched a consumer education campaign “Are you ready to come clean? Quiz” to ensure
for these brands to do so is to follow Levi’s steps by investing in waterless technology and raising the issue with their consumers. June 2015 FASH4WARD

For consumers omit support, washing their jeans less often, no more than once a month, using cold water and line drying them would definitely save water and increase the durability of their jeans. Although all 3 methods of “spot cleaning” jeans might not kill all bacteria, there is no evidence that it can be a hazard to your health. Not washing your jeans has traditionally made denim last longer and from an environmental perspective, it is an opportunity to make a difference in water consumption and on our planet.
“Imagine the global impact we could make if everyone who wears jeans significantly reduced the number of times their jeans go in the washing machine.”

If you are lucky enough to be different, don’t ever change. -Taylor Swift
Love The Skin You're In! by Marina Perugini I can't speak for all women around the world, but I can speak for myself when I say that self-esteem issues are carried with me every day of my life. Whether I'm grocery shopping, going to school, or looking at a magazine filled with perfectly done up beauty queens, I always have that voice in the back of my mind saying that there's definitely some one out there who's prettier, funnier or skinnier. It's undoubtedly hard to disagree with the notion that women are expected to live up to unre alistic ideas of beauty. Some say that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Whether that's the philosophy you want to go with or not, it's still hard to accept the fact that perfection will never be attainable. However, the question still remains; what is perfection? Is it flawless skin, matched with perfectly virgin hair? Is it long tanned legs, or por celain features? Some people believe they've found the answer. It's called "The Golden Ratio," otherwise known as "The Divine Proportion
It has to do with math and ratios and all that mumbo jumbo, but basically to sum it all up: The Golden Ratio is the idea that perfection is attained with exact symmetry. This is believed to be the key to aesthetic beauty in our society. Some say it's a myth, but there are also some who swear by it. It has been around for hun dreds of years, and is an attempt at combining mathematics with art, to explain a rather inex plicable phenomenon

I once heard that the face in Leonardo DaVinci's infamous painting of The Mona Lisa can be measured and found to have the exact ratio required for perfection, and this is why she is thought to be so beautiful. This may very well be just a myth, but regardless, The Golden Ratio has been tested, and confirmed, by nu merous mathematicians and scientists.

It can be done by drawing rectangles and triangles, perfectly symmetric to one another, on each side of a persons face, and if all shapes fit perfectly on both sides, this is the Divine Proportion. Of course, there's a bunch of math involved to get all shapes perfectly aligned and equal to one another, but you get the basic idea of how it works. Some celebrities who are thought to have come close to attaining this magical formula include Angelina Jolie, Megan Fox, and Marilyn Monroe. Keep in mind, however, the rarity of this occurring. Some say that "beautiful people" are often chosen for tv, movies, and magazines, because society loves to see things that are aesthetically pleasing. We are more likely to buy a pair of shoes from a girl with a perfectly symmetrical face ... Because that makes a ton of sense! The standards of beauty have become a sort of competition; especially in the world of fashion. Besides not having a perfectly symmetrical face, we women, also have to worry about our -possibly- less than perfect bodies. Why don't we ever see Adele as a sex symbol? Yet everyone goes gawgaw over Kim Kardashian! What is it that makes Kim K so irresistible? Part of me wants to go further into a discussion about what it could be that makes her seen as "sexy" in the media, but when really stop to think about it- I just don't care! The problem with society is that we spend too much of our time trying to figure things out, and trying to have a perfect mathematical equation to explain things that we otherwise don't understand. The bottom line is; I will never be Kim Kardashian. I will also never be Adriana Lima, or Jennifer Lopez. Neither will any of us (except if any of those ladies are currently reading this. If so, hey girls! You're doing great, keep it up.) All I know for a straight fact is that I have this one body, and this one face, and this one life, and I don't see any use in spending precious moments trying to dissect what other people find to be retty. koreaboo.com
zimbio.com
www.refinery29.com
I know what I like, and I know what makes me feel good. Other people 1 s opinions aren 1 t going to put money in my bank account, or food on my table. If I had it my way, I would change the rules of society. What if Mona Lisa had a slightly larger nose, or one eye足 brow bone raised higher than the other? Would she still attract tourists from around the globe, and be sealed in a bullet proof casing surrounded by guards? I believe she would! Regardless of er individual features, she is still a masterpiece.
So, why did I write this article? It was not just to rant about how ridiculous I feel that society has become. The idea that there are little girls growing up thinking that they are not beautiful saddens me deeply. We were all cre足 ated the exact way that we were supposed to be created, and because of this, we attract the exact types of people who are best suited for us. This is how we find our calling. 1 To wish to be something you re not is a waste of the person you are. My wish is for people, men and women alike, to stop trying to change themselves to fit into some 1 crazy, unrealistic box. lt s about time we start a movement and get the world talking. It only takes one spark to start 1 a flame. lt s time to love the skin you're in.

As women of the 21st century, we are always undergoing changing fashions and desperately struggling to keep up with the trends of society. Admit it, Ladies! Most of us see Kim Kardashian's curves or Beyonce's flawless legs, and immediately think to ourselves, "Why can't I look like that?" And you may be thinking that having that body type is attainable, and you're just not working hard enough for it. However, the reality of it is, every body develops into exactly what it's supposed to be! There are tons of different female body types that we see on the streets, runways, or in magazines, and it's only human for us to be envious of the ones we don't have. This is mainly due to the fact that we've never had to live life in that body, therefore, we don't know the pros and cons. The unknown is what keeps us envious. The only way to conquer and accept your own body, is to be able to fully understand it, and how to live inside of it. As a woman, I always find myself with my nose inside a fashion magazine, analyzing what the hottest celebrities are wearing, and trying to replicate their look. STYLE ICON
From Posh Spice to style icon: Victoria Beckham's style transformation. By: Darcie Laberge From one of the five members of arguably the biggest girl band of the 90's to fashion royalty, Victoria Beckham's style transformation is one of the most talked about. The proud owner of an international fashion empire and a modern day style icon. You may know her as Posh Spice or David Beckham's wife but in the fashion world, Victoria Beckham is one of the most influential people. The former pop star began designing jeans for Rock & Republic before starting her own clothing, accessory and fragrance lines. The Brit mother of four has come a long way since her little black dress days performing with the spice girls. Let's take a look at her evolution with fashion and how she became one of the biggest fashion icons. The tiny hotpants and crop tops have been replaced with elegant gowns and fashion forward day-to-day looks. While being part of the girl band, she was known for wearing her signature little black dress and heels but her solo career ensembles left much to be desired. Often seen in leather clothes and bandanas. Fast forward a few years, Beckham has traded in her biker clothes for elegant gowns. Now she is known for her avant-garde red carpet looks and sophisticated day-to-day looks. She's often seen sporting skinny legged pants and a blazer and of course her signature over-sized sun glasses. If there's one thing that's remained consistent throughout her style transformation though, it's the pose; hip forward, leg out and on occasion a rare smile. She kept the look very simple with a single gold bracelet and a chunky nude heel. She was sporting her signature smoky eye makeup look. 90's was all about the big her and Victoria Beckham certainly wasn't holding back, with her very volumi足 nous hair.
2001 now soloist, Victoria Beckham performs on One Big Sunday's radio show in London. I think we can all agree that this isn't one of her most fashionable looks. She appears to be going through a "badass" stage, sporting skin tight leather pants, a black bandana and a belt decorated with gold bullets. To top off the whole outfit she is wearing leather elbow length gloves and a mesh crop top. Although she is sporting the "rocker" look she got rid of her dark locks and dyed her hair blonde.

The fashion event of the year and Beckham did not disappoint. This has to be one of the best looks she has ever worn to an event. The celebrity designer pushed the fashion envelope wearing a one-shoulder champagne silk polka dot mini dress with a long train. Her choice of shoe further emphasized her unique sense of style. To keep the emphasis on the dress she kept her hair in a simple up do.

Moschino went Barbie for
his 2015 Spring/Summer Collection. Everything was bubble-gum pink and sparkly. The models had blond wigs, pink lipstick, crop tops, leather clothing and miniskirts. There was a retro r eference too, with the chain belts and prim skirt suits. If you are an 80’s or 90’s baby, you will feel the connection. Barbies measurements are a little more realistic in Moschino’s 2015 Spring /Summer Collection.

In contrast, it evoked a youthful spirit, challenging the MSGM women to grow out of who she once was. and sand in his 2015 Spring/ Summer Collection. He was inspired by a film called Sabbia. It is an Italian word for sand, in english. Armani used neutral, sand colored palettes. Python print and embroideries suggest monochromatic world. The garments were light and layered. Armani used crystal and paillettes which gave this abstract opalescence to his collection. His 2015 Spring/Summer Collection is an absolute beauty.

seems to be the best show of Milan fashion week.Donatella Versace designed straigthforward silhouettes with mini shift dresses, geometric cutouts, over sized mesh wholes, crystal mesh and color-blocked styles. From ones perspective, some pieces had a barbie-like look. Beyond all that, the sophistication of the prints is what wraps up her 2015 Spring/Summer Collection. Prada had one spectacular show. She was mostly inspired by antiquity and to turn old into new. We could still feel that sense of bourgeoisie with the A-line coats, 3/4 sleeves and belted coats however it was much more modernised. Miuccia Prada’s covered up silhouettes are still a big part of the name itself.

Q
Q
I have no idea what to wear with those boyfriend jeans. Help!
A That all depends on the occasion.
If it's for a going out look, you could pair them with a casual heel, a baggy top tucked in the front and a blazer. If it's for a more causal, hanging out with friends look, you could pair them with white converse and again with a baggy top tucked in the front.
Q
I'm going out on a date right after work and don't have time to do home and change, what can I do to spice up my casual office outfit?
A
My best advice for you to spice up your outfit is to replace your cardigan with a nice structured blazer, put on a nice but comfortable pair of heels and add a statement necklace to tie your entire outfit together.
Q What skirt length is in this season?
A
For this season we are done with the mini skirt, it's all about the midi skirts. Anywhere from bellow the knee to mid calf.
What exactly are you supposed to wear under paper-thin shirts? I always come across such cute shirts but they all seem to be shear, what do I do?
A
I think we can all agree that shirts seem to be becoming more and more sheer. Here are my tips to you when dealing with sheer tops. 1. Probably the most important tip, make sure if you are purchasing a sheer top that it's loose fitting because no matter who you are a tight see-through top is not cute. 2. If you are ok with showing your bra, make sure it matches the shirt. 3. Again for those of you who don't mind showing a little skin, there are really cute bralettes out at the moment that look super cute under sheer tops. 4. For the more conservative ladies out there my advice to you is layering. Pair your sheer top with a comfortable tank.
Q What are some of your tips for shopping
on a budget?
A When shopping on a budget its important
to know what you are looking for. Only buy clothes that will last a while, that are comfortable and that fit properly. Also don't buy things just because they are trendy, trends change all the time. It's not worth it! Buy clothes that are neutral and can easily be mix and matched. Know when sales are happening. If you find something in a store that you like, go home and look online to see if you can find something similar for a better price. Finally and probably my best tip to you is to go thrift shopping. You can find amazing, unique pieces for such low prices.

Originating in a 1994 article by Mark Simpson, the uprising phenomenon called „metrosexuality‟, got Canadian men looking better than ever. “The „well-dressed male‟, who makes a concerted effort with his attire and pays particular attention to style, is a trend that is proving to have staying power,” said Kathy Perrotta, director of Sales for Canada Fashion. After the Recession in 2008-2009, was the golden age of the sartorial male. A trend piece in the New York Times proclaimed, “Men step out of the recession, bag on hip bracelet on wrist.” After poor economic times, consumers seek pleasure through retail therapy. The rise of the „well-dressed male‟ is giving Canada‟s fashion industry a much-needed boost. Recent data from NPD statistics confirms that men‟s newly obsession with looking good has increased the male market by 3%, making it the only market to report any growth since 2012. Even more surprising, they outpurchased women in the area of high-end footwear. Moreover, the male grooming products alone rose by 3% in Canada last year, and currently the market sits close to $700 million. Here in Canada, the $7.4 billion men‟s apparel market sales grew by 4%. By contrast, women‟s apparel market sales dropped by 4%. Men‟s appetite for fashion shores up apparel sales.

Society is very quick to condemn and pathologize new trends that push the boundaries of social norms. With the rise of Spornosexual, a new generation of metrosexual, body-obsessed males. Their bodies have become the ultimate accessories. These men want to be desired for their bodies rather than their wardrobe. While these trends are certainly good for the clothing industry and for all the gyms, we are witnessing many men feeling insecure about their bodies, and pressured to take part in these trends. Another problem is that some become so self-obsessed and vain that it‟s really unattractive, as arrogance always is. The down part of this is that these trends emphasize a lot on the outer aesthetic part of the human body rather than the inner part; personality and intellectuality. Recent statistics from Market research authority Mintel report show that 13 per cent of 16- to 24-year-olds have depilated their chest in the past 12 months; 60 per cent „routinely groom‟ their bodies, and the number of beauty and personal care products aimed specifically at men has increased 70 percent since 2007. According to Bloomberg Businessweek, personal toiletries market toward men rose to 5.6 percent of the market share in the past five years. There has certainly been a shift in the way we perceive the male body. “Men are now scrutinizing their looks and their bodies are being objectified and deconstructed to the point that a particular body type makes you either an attractive male or an unattractive one” says Doris Kieser, a professor at the University of Alberta who lectures on body image.
