THE FUTURE
THE CO. The Co is a co-working organization that originated in Jacksonville, TN that wants to expand their corporation into Omaha, NE. The design intention is to design a creative and intriguing space that inspires new ideas and gives ownership to users through the use of building blocks. I did this through the use of collaborative and individual spaces. Furthermore, I designed walls that would showcase members accomplishments and awards. I also included a wood shop, and photography room. A member would enter on the 5th floor first to check in with the receptionist, and grab a cup of coffee in the kitchen. This space can also be transformed into a seminars space. They would then take the stairs to floor six, where they can choose a desk and get started on their work. The desk are adjustable for standing or sitting, and can be rearranged depending on how many people they need next to them.

THE QUILT MUSEUM The International Quilt Study Museum is located on the East campus of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. This was the first project where I collaborated with another designer, Rachel Norris. Our design intention is to build a global collection and audience that celebrates the cultural and artistic significance of quilts. We got our inspiration from the Log Cabin pattern, the highest visited quilt at the quilt museum. We based our structural grid, ceiling feature, and the main display case off of this pattern. We wanted a ceiling fixture that could be seen from outside that would encourage people to come in the building and explore. The ceiling fixture also functions as a guide for circulation. It starts at the entrance of the building and gradually leads people to the retail space while encircling the light feature. Overall, we created a space where everyone is encouraged to come into the quilt museum, explore, and learn more about the history of quilts.

NEXT Next is a private medical group that is located in Seattle, Washington. This is the first project where I did evidence based research for my design. I did research about the areas around the location, hospital care, and work environment of healthcare employees. One of my findings is that employees work the best and patients heal faster when they are exposed to natural light and nature. Therefore, my design intention is to integrate nature into the facility to reduce stress within the building. I arranged the open offices, and exam rooms close to the windows so both staff and patient are exposed to natural light. Furthermore, I covered the columns with copper in the shape of trees. I chose copper because it is antimicrobial and will age well in the coming years. I encouraged staff collaboration with several break out areas, desk that are close together, and no private offices. I designed spaces where people are immersed in nature by having the walls curved like a tree trunk to make it feel like they are in the trunk.

THE CREATIVE NICHE The Creative Niche is located on 125 N 11 ST, Lincoln, NE. This location is close to downtown Lincoln, the Haymarket, and the University, all that have an expressive atmosphere. I wanted to bring that atmosphere into this building. I first created a collage of all of my inspiration photos that I would use throughout the design process. My design intent is to create a space where families are encouraged to be creative and get a little messy. There are not a lot of Airbnb’s in Lincoln where families can make a mess and not worry about getting a fine. I created a space where people are encouraged to get messy by having a craft room where paint can be splattered everywhere, walls where they can write their own personal messages, a game room to encourage family time, and big counter tops for cooking. I created more family bonding areas outside with places to eat, cook, talk, and enjoy the view while relaxing in the hot tub. Overall, I designed a space where families spend more time with each other.

THE FUTURE The future is what we learn and experience from the past. I hope to learn from all of my experiences to make me a better designer. On this page, I display just some of the knowledge that I have learned throughout the years. I have experience in traveling, photography, and sketching. An internship will build upon these skills while creating new skills. In the next coming years, I can only imagine what else I can learn.
THANK YOU
