Grade One Islamic Studies Worksheet 7.1 Tafseer Surah Al-Fatihah (Part 1)
It is very important that Muslims spend time with the Qur’an. We should read it and memorise it but we should also reflect upon the meanings of the verses and the lessons that can be learned from them. We will now look at some surahs from the Qur’an and the translation of their meaning into English.1 The first surah we shall look at is Surah AlFatihah. It is a very important surah for us to learn about because it is something that we recite every time we pray. It is called Al-Fatihah which means The Opening. It is the first surah of the Qur’an and it is the opening to the Qur’an. It is also how we begin our prayer. Allah revealed this surah when the Messenger was in Makkah. of Allah I hope you have memorised this surah.
For the translation of meaning into English we will be using the Saheeh International Translation of the Meaning of the Qur’an, Abul Qasim Publishing House, 1997. 1

We recite Surah Al-Fatihah a lot of times every day. Think about how many times we say it in a single day. We recite Al-Fatihah in every rak’ah of our prayer. So that’s at least seventeen times we say it every day. Allah referred to Surah Al-Fatihah as “the seven often repeated verses” in Surah Al-Hijr where He said:
