The design concept draws inspiration from the journey of the River Kaveri, meandering from its mountainous origins through lush forests before culminating in the expansive delta. Reflecting these stages, the structure evolves in form, juxtaposing and harmonizing with its surroundings.

Integral to the design is the seamless integration with nature, achieved through abundant greenery and water features which against the arid landscape creates a striking contrast, while the verticality of the structure complements the site’s flat linear profile, enhancing its visual appeal and ecological significance.

Future Expansion

This housing design comprises two clusters interconnected with a shared workplace on alternating floors, doubling as a vibrant community hub. Each of the 65 houses boasts unique features on the first two floors, while the design repeats for the subsequent levels, promoting diversity within unity.

Interpretation Centre

This studio focuses on fostering design thinking through discussions on tangible and intangible aspects of spatial exploration at an archaeological site. The project involves two parts: adapting an interpretation center around an existing mandapa using adaptive reuse methodology and designing a roof structure for excavation pits, exploring forms through workshops like origami and tensegrity methods.

This design harmonizes the traditional planning principles of Chettinad houses with a contemporary exterior aesthetic. Exhibits are arranged around a vast central courtyard, ensuring easy access to all areas. The existing mandapa serves as a museum shop, complemented by a cutting-edge VR experience center, seamlessly blending heritage with modernity.

Earth Building

This was a hands on workshop on restoring a 400 years old mud building for a NGO ‘localfeatures of Ladakh’ in Leh, Ladakh , where we developed existing structure by reusing materials from the site, rebuilt weaker parts of the structure with more aesthetical appeal only by using natural materials.

16

Wooden Joinery

Participants explored furniture prototyping with advanced wooden joinery techniques. They learned various joineries like butt, half lap, and tongue and groove, then practiced making them. Next, they crafted a small seating chair using mortise and tenon joints. Finally, they built a Chandigarh chair by Le Corbusier and a red and blue chair from the De Stijl movement, enhancing their understanding of wood properties and furniture design. The workshop offered valuable insights into advanced joinery, design, and wood characteristics.

17

The Architecture Experience: Singapore

The Experience aims to deepen architectural knowledge through a interactive learning layer integrated into a curated travel itinerary. We explored live projects that emphasize various architectural techniques, including vernacular design, vegetative landscapes, site sensitivity, material selection, nature integration, and the use of local resources, all crucial for sustainable architecture. The final outcome is a live Capstone project that we developed on a site of our choosing in India using the strategies we learnt, completed before the trip concluded

Photogrammetry

This is a travel-based workshop on Photogrammetry and Digital Documentation of Architectural Heritage held in Collaboration with Deccan Heritage Foundation. This documentation was a part of the restoration work at the Mysore folklore museum site, by Heritage Matters Bangalore.
