One of my favorite things about becoming a designer is that every design tells a different story and the different emotions people attach with a space. As I progress into my career, I strive to fuse my creativity and problem solving skills to reflect them into my projects. Additionally, to use my love for foliage to help promote human-nature interaction inside and promote a sense of wellbeing. As design evolves, this urges me to keep an open mind to further my knowledge so I evolve as well.

From the floor up, One can not help but to reflect and appreciate the history of the surrounding community. From the first trolley lines, which gave North Loop its name to, the origins of the first railroad that connected Minnesota to the rest of the west and further, to flour mills that once consumed the area. Chemin de fer will focus on turning the past into the present, while reflecting back on its past by using an old warehouse and converting it into a boutique hotel that is all-inclusive. The history of the area will be shown through photos, original flour bags, and the use of raw materials. Walking through the lobby one will be surrounded by jewel toned furnishing such as emerald green and sapphire blue, which reflect from the original lines of the railroads, with an influence of modern patterns that play in reference to the past.

One key factor I plan on focusing on is bringing the community closer together by promoting healthy lifestyles. I will be keeping the exterior of the building true to its past, while only polishing it up and supporting sections that need so. In the interior of my healthcare facility I plan on using way finding that is not only easy to follow but also relates to the history of the building or promotes healthy living in some form. A lot of the times one of the hardest parts of getting healthy and staying healthy is the thought of having to do it by yourself. However, with a community center located withing a healthcare facility along with a fitness track the people of Lumberton will never have to fear that they are alone in the journey to a healthy life.

Walking through the forest view kitchen, one is immediately overcome with awe by the view of the surrounding forest through the north facing windows. Before the renovation the kitchen lacked natural lighting, character, and had builder grade finishes. To help make the space feel bigger and allow room for an island the kitchen was expanded five feet back adding on eighty square feet. With the expansion this allowed room for a proper work triangle, and work flow. There is now enough space in the kitchen for two people to work comfortably without compromising the functionally of the space. Natural lighting is now a main feature of the kitchen, which helps the space feel more open and welcoming. The new finishes reflect the nature that surrounds the kitchen. The gray cabinetry and veins in the countertops reflect the heavy fog that covers the forest floor every morning. Wood tones from the trees are brought in and used on the floating shelves and the wood flooring. A modern twist was also incorporated into the kitchen design to reflect the rest of the house.
