Thank you to the 11 Key Clubbers who attended our Skate Night social in August! Be on the lookout for more social events coming soon and another skate night in October.
On Sunday, July 17th, Carlmont Key Club volunteered at the San Carlos Block Party. Two blocks of Laurel Street were closed off to allow for community residents to eat and play games during the warm summer afternoon. Volunteers were broken up into two shifts that were around 3 hours each. Volunteers in the first shift helped set up tables, chairs, and games for attendees, while the second shift cleaned up the area and took down the decorations from the day. I was very happy to have been able to attend this fun summer event and I hope that San Carlos will consider hosting this event again next year!

The Interclub with Hillsdale and Sequoia was a fun and social event where we filled pencil cases with generic school supplies and little encouraging notes. We also were able to decorate some notecards for teachers, librarians, custodians, and anyone else who works at our local schools. My friend Grace and I planned this event and we really enjoyed collaborating with the other school’s Key Clubs and meeting new people. It was nice to talk to people with a common interest and love working with Key Club. I also thought this interclub was a great way to make a bigger and more impactful donation. I can’t wait to do more interclubs in the future!

Sequoia's Key Club participated in an interclub event with Carlmont and Hillsdale. The service event was on July 30 from 1 PM to 3 PM. Each school brought materials such as pencils, highlighters, scissors, etc. We then put them into pencil pouches for incoming students to have what they need for the upcoming school year. Additionally, we added notes of inspiration and kindness.
During the Food Pantry at Jefferson HS, we distributed groceries to families in their cars. There was a super efficient system with multiple stations for cars to quickly get their groceries and leave. Each station had about 5 people who worked together to pack the boxed groceries into the cars. I always enjoy volunteering at this event because it allows me to realize food insecurity and it motivates me to constantly come back to lend a helping hand. It feels nice to hand out food to the ones who need it most and give back to my community.

I went in early in the morning hoping to be able to help out by registering people. Unfortunately, I got there too late and all the tablets were handed out already, but I was still able to help one of my underclassmen with the tablet when registering new people. It started an hour earlier than it normally would so we had stations to register the cars that were coming.
