INTERVIEWS

INTERVIEW 1: Meg the ASMR Enthusiast

INTERVIEW 3: Christian the Sound Mixer

1.

1.

I like listening because it relieves stress and anxiety personally.

2. I only listen. I don't make any sound content personally. 3. I mostly just listen to whatever pops up on my feed. 4. I find sound mostly on the discover page of my Instagram, it's become full of pretty niche things now. Most of my popups are spot on so I don't have to dig very far. 5. I have a hard time finding good rain sounds specific to what I like, a lot of them are really low quality, annoying, or loud, when I'm looking for quieter sound. I wish there was a filter for what sounds I like!

INTERVIEW 2: Pallavi the Traveler 1.

Each sound reminds me of something. Even though I'm not that interested in sound. Sound is tied to memory. It's a strong sense. Each place is so different. Like the way people talk (in a public place) and the language they speak. For example people in the US sound so much nicer, and no one honks! I have memories tied to sounds, like the "veggie caller" in New Delhi early in the AM calling out "veggies!". I can recognize my dogs howl, it makes me sad when I hear it over the phone with my parents, because I miss him.

2. I mostly listen to sound. When I'm stressed I listen to calming noises. The only time I use sound is for soundtracks for work. I did use it for a stop motion animation once with people walking, and I had to search the types of shoes they were wearing in the animation and layer the sounds to make the scene. It sounded like horse hooves clopping in the end! 3. It depends. Who's making the sound? Human, animal, machine, nature? 4. I use generic free sound sites or you-tube, going in to void to search for sound. 5. Finding the right sound is frustrating, the quality of it too. Finding what you want can be very specific at times.

Sounds to me connects people. Sound says a lot without physically being anything.

2. I have make the sound I use. When I make music I record myself playing guitar, then download a drum packs. 3. Since I have a music background, so I classify by genre, like organic, industrial, violent, soft, almost physical properties in a way which is interesting since sound is not physical. 4. I go Online, Google, if I'm trying to find "bomb sounds" it's hard! I'll try to find it by Googling dynamite explosion but that's different. 5. It's hard to classify sound, hard to describe sound and type it into Google search engine.

INTERVIEW 4: Chad the Musician 1.

I feel neutrally about sound. Some of them are bad, some are nice. I don't tend to notice. They remind me of the thing, the object of the noise.

2. I make sounds that everyone else makes. I make tapping sounds. I make my own music too. 3. Good/bad/don't notice it. Lots of things i don't notice. 4. Texture wise, I look for other people's music to see how they got that sound. There's little to no info on how people make that sound. 5. Sometimes you don't know what they are or how they are made and I'll search for hours how a musician made this one sound and what instrument was used.

QUESTIONS 1. What do you like about sound? 2. Do you solely listen to sound or do you also make sound? 3. How do you categorize / identify sound? 4. Where do you look for sound? 5. What are some frustrations you have when searching for sound?
