KAYLEIGH QUEOFF INTERIOR ARCHITECTURE PORTFOLIO

To me, design is about improving the quality of life within the built environment. Design is a powerful communication tool and through design you can indicate how a space is supposed to be utilized; you can create a sense of place and you can enhance people’s lives. As a designer, I want to design for people and create spaces that people want to return to and feel comfortable in. I draw a lot of my inspiration from Scandinavian design. Even though it is aesthetically simplistic, it still has depth to it and shows innovation and an appreciation for design and materials. With my designs, I want my passion and appreciation for design to show through my work and inspire others. - Kayleigh Queoff

Workplace Design | UWCU E-Commerce Center

To design a modern e-commerce center for the UW Credit Union that reflects the ideas of simple functionalism. Inspired by a study tour of Scandinavia, the proposed design utilizes Scandinavian design principles and values to create a simple, collaborative, and functional space. Large graphics and pops of greens, oranges, and reds liven the space up and create a sense of energy to encourage productivity. Various groupings of lounge furniture placed throughout the space will offer places of respite for the employees. Patterned carpets and acoustical ceiling treatments will be used to absorb noise and glass partitions will be used for the private offices to let in as much natural light as possible. The simplicity of the proposed design will appeal to a wide variety of people and take into account the users health and wellness through thoughtful ergonomic furniture selections.

Danish Crafts & Design - Gallery & Workshops | Echo

ECHO Echo, a synonym for reflection, is the name chosen for this Gallery and Studio Workshops located in Copenhagen, Denmark. With an echo, sound attenuates off the surfaces back to you. The mirrors are meant to bounce images of the pieces displayed throughout the exhibit promoting curiosity and visual complexity.

CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT simple sleek modern

Inspired by the Black Diamond, Royal Playhouse, and the canals surrounding the site, the proposed design features different types of glass, the idea of blocking areas, and marble to symbolize the movement of the water that surrounds the site.

Playing with perception is a key characteristic in this space making it very interactive for users. The goal of this exhibit is to draw people’s minds into the overall experience and to get them to think more deeply about the pieces and examine them at different angles which can be achieved through the use of mirrors.

Coworking Workplace Design | Co|act

CO|ACT Coact, meaning to act together, is the name chosen for this co-working space located in Seattle, Washington. Co-working spaces are about working together with other professionals to inspire and collaborate with one another. The design goal for Coact was to create a comfortable, 21st century space that emphasizes the importance of collaboration. Clean white walls and pops of color create a vibrant co-working space. The use of soft furnishings and relaxed schemes provide a satisfying environment for the users. Large tables, benching systems, and multifunctional work areas encourage collaboration between users. The new ways of working in the 21st century helped to create this dynamic.

Study Abroad Experience | Copenhagen, Denmark

I spent 2 months in Copenhagen, Denmark taking an interior architecture studio where I focused on Scandinavian design. Our program focused on utilizing “Europe as our classroom, so, we had the opportunity to be immersed into Scandinavian design throughout a week long study tour of Sweden and Norway. Through first hand experience we learned about the history of various sites we visited and the different design details that are used in Scandinavian design. Showing the construction of items and the materials that are used is very important in Scandinavian design and we were able to see this all throughout our study tour and learn from it to influence our projects.

DENMARK

In Copenhagen, I really enjoyed the variety of architecture that you could see throughout the city. Arne Jacobsen’s projects were prevalent all over the city and Poul Henningsen’s lamps were used as street lamps. To me, this was something really amazing to see, it shows how much they appreciate design in Denmark and Scandinavia in general.

Study Tour: S W E D E N & N O R W A Y

On our study tour we got to see all different kinds of architecture. I really enjoyed the idea of old meets new and seeing how glass can be added to historical sites; it gives it a nice contrast and doesn’t take away from the original site.

I was awarded the IIDA 2016 Susan Wohlitz Memorial Scholarship for writing an executive summary based on the following prompt: KTBA Design is a Midwestern Design Firm that is looking to expand into the Madison, WI area. Their design initiative is to implement the “healthy work environment movement within all of their projects including their own business expansion project. By partnering with a local design firm, KTBA Design will be able to successfully integrate themselves into the Madison community. KTBA Design is comprised of 15 employees, each having their own work style. To accommodate these alternative work styles, the final design plan will have areas where employees can walk on a treadmill while they work; there will also be a sit-to-stand desk in every office to give employees the option to either sit or stand while they work.
