Fish House was founded in 1981 in Kansas City Missouri, bringing a taste of the California coast to landlocked KC.


Anna

This is Anna Moreau. She grew up in Santa Barbara, CA. Anna loved the coast and she loved seafood. Her father often took her deep sea fishing and her mother taught her how to prepare the best seafood dishes.


Her father owned a restaurant in Mill Valley that was the most popular in town, serving the freshest catch of the day. She spent her summers here helping out and quietly absorbing the trades of the business.


Anna’s father sold the restaurant when she became an adult. She was deeply saddened, but had recently accepted a proposal for marriage and found herself swiftly submerged in a new life.


Anna moved to KC in 1975 with her husband. She knew being landlocked would be different, but had no idea how much she would miss home. She found a job waiting tables at Winstead’s and slowly saved her money. Anna had a dream of bringing the best seafood to the Midwest in a beautiful restaurant with a kind, caring staff and world renowned Chefs. There simply weren’t any quality seafood restaurants in Kansas City. She had a box under her bed of table linens, fabric samples, signage specimens, and hundreds of photographs that she’d look at for motivation when her goal seemed a little too far away.


Anna soon had children of her own and knew she wanted this restaurant to be family friendly, upscale yet approachable. She also wanted to ensure that she was supporting safe and sustainable fishing practices so that her grandchildren could still enjoy the same safe, quality fish that she did so she maintained relationships with the trustworthy fishermen that her father worked with.


Anna wanted to bring the coast to KC in an upscale environment but in a Midwestern way that made everyone feel comfortable and welcome. She wanted the experience to be memorable and bold, the food to be delicious, the decor to be smart, and the sta to be uncommonly friendly and welcoming.


Anna and her husband eventually saved enough to purchase a building and start implementing these ideas to get the freshest catch to KC.
