(BY A ROOKIE)
Dedicated to Cody, Zack, Max and Nate. The origional camping crew.
setting up your camp
A good tent is crucial to an enjoyable night in the woods. Make sure to pack a quality tent ready to brave any elements mother nature could throw at you. Find a flat section of your camp site to build your tent, clear any small rocks and sticks that might be uncomfortable to sleep on. A comfortable camp site will make or break your trip!
building a fire
What is camping without a good fire? I’ll tell you, cold and dark. That is why a good fire is in order to make your camp life more comfortable. Start by gathering sticks of all sizes from around the camp site, gather sticks of all sizes. Follow the diagram to the left to create the perfect fire.
camp cooking
The food you cook will make or beak your outing in the woods. All your meals should be able to be cooked on the fire or on a camp stove. So you should make these tasty recipes on your trip!
Breakfast Breakfast Potatoes Coat the bottom of a pan with a thin layer of olive oil, and place the pan over the coals of your campfire, on a grate. Add onion and cook until its tender, about 2 minutes. Add potatoes, peppers, and another 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Stir to coat. Stir occasionally for about 10 minutes, until potatoes start to brown. Add a few tablespoons of water, and cover with foil to steam for about 5 minutes. Add seasonings, continue to stir occasionally until fully browned, crispy, and tender in the middle.
lunch Campfire Quesadillas Lay out four pieces of foil and place a tortilla on top of each piece. Divide your cheese among the four tortillas, sprinkling it down the center of each. Divide your choice of meat evenly among the tortillas, and then sprinkle the remaining cheese on top of the veggies. Fold the two sides of the tortilla toward the center and then wrap the quesadillas in the foil, sealing the edges to make a packet. Place the packets on the grate and cook for a few minutes on each side, until the cheese is melted and the tortilla crisp.
dinner Campfire Reuben Cut 4 large squares of aluminum foil. Place 2 slices of bread side-byside on each piece of foil. Spread the bread slices with Thousand Island dressing. Evenly divide the corned beef, Swiss cheese, and sauerkraut among the bread. Top with a second slice of bread to make a sandwich. Wrap the foil snugly around the sandwich to make a sealed packet. Place the packets on the preheated grill. Cook, turning every 10 minutes, until the bread is lightly toasted and cheese melted, about 30 minutes.
clasic campfire songs One of the most fun activities while camping is gathering around the fire with your camp mates to sing campfire songs and tell scary stories. To get you started , here are some easy campfire songs. Best enjoyed with smores! Yankee Doodle
Old MacDonald Had a Farm
Yankee Doodle went to town,
Old MacDonald had a farm.
Riding on a pony.
E-I-E-I-O.
Stuck a feather in his hat
And on that farm he had a cow.
And called it macaroni.
E-I-E-I-O.
Yankee Doodle, keep it up.
With a moo-moo here And a moo-moo there. Here a moo, there a moo, Everywhere a moo-moo.
Yankee Doodle dandy. Mind the music and the step,
Old MacDonald had a farm. And with the girls be handy! E-I-E-I-O.
Do Your Ears Hang Low? Do your ears hang low? Do they wobble to and fro? Can you tie them in a knot?
She’ll Be Coming Around the Mountain She’ll be coming round the mountain when she comes (Toot, Toot!)
Can you tie them in a bow? Can you throw them o’er your shoulder like a continental soldier? Do your ears hang low? OTHER VERSES: Do your ears hang high? Do they reach up to the sky? Do they droop when they are wet? Do they stiffen when they’re dry? Can you semaphore your neighbour with a minimum of labour? Do your ears hang high? Do your ears flip-flop? Can you use them for a mop? Are they stringy at the bottom? Are they curly at the top? Can you use them for a swatter? Can you use them for a blotter? Do your ears flip-flop? Do your ears hang out? Can you waggle them about? Can you flip them up and down as you fly around the town? Can you shut them up for sure when you hear an awful bore? Do your ears hang out
She’ll be coming round the mountain when she comes (Toot, Toot!) She’ll be coming round the mountain, She’ll be coming round the mountain, She’ll be coming round the mountain when she comes (Toot, toot!) This Old Man This old man, he played one. He played knick-knack on my thumb. With a knick-knack paddy-whack, give a dog a bone. This old man came rolling home.
