ATLANTA STREETS ALIVE OPEN STREETS FOR HUMAN POWERED AMUSEMENT In 2013, over 159,000 people attended three Atlanta Streets Alive events. Thousands poured onto city streets by foot, by bike, by skates or by any human-powered means of transportation. Just no gasoline engines allowed. In four years, Atlanta Streets Alive has grown from 1,000 participants to over 83,000 per event. It aims to transform our car-clogged streets into sustainable, livable, walkable centers of vibrant activity. Atlanta Streets Alive has been covered by AJC, ABC, Maria Saporta, Curbed, and the League of American Bicycles.
ATLANTA BELTLINE BIKE TOUR TOUR THE NATION’S GREATEST URBAN REDEVLOPMENT The BeltLine Bike Tour is an annual ride for Georgians (near and far) to experience this transformative project in the making. The ride includes varied pace options and fascinating stops highlighting assets and points of interest along the 22-mile Atlanta BeltLine. Over 400 riders participated at the last BeltLine Bike Tour in 2012 and it will return in 2014. The ride was featured on the front page of AJC when it was founded in 2008.
BLINKIE AWARDS AN ANNUAL CELEBRATION OF BIKING IN ATLANTA Last year, 300 ABC supporters attended and the event was covered by two TV news outlets—CBS and 11 Alive, as well as Atlanta INtown and Creative Loafing. The evening featured Anthony David performing “ATL Sunshine,” a silent auction, refreshments, and speech by Mayor Kasim Reed committing the city of Atlanta to becoming a top ten U.S. city for cycling by 2016.
COMMUTER BREAKFASTS MEET OTHER BIKE COMMUTERS OF ATLANTA The first Thursday every month is a chance to have coffee and conversation with fellow commuters and ABC members. At our most recent sponored breakfast on the Atlanta BeltLine, 85 bike commuters attended.
