Two representatives from each of four wards serve on the council. As a public hospital, Liberty Hospital is governed by a publicly elected six-member board of trustees chosen by residents of the hospital district. Trustees serve six-year terms. In 2018, Liberty Hospital’s board approved the purchase ownership interests in Norterre, a multigenerational community featuring a healthy living center, skilled nursing, long-term care, memory support and rehabilitation. Located 20 minutes north of downtown Kansas City, Liberty Hospital serves Clay, Platte and Ray counties as well as the northwest Missouri corridor.
