INTERIOR PERSPECTIVE OF LIBRARY
PROJECT DESCRIPTION// A 2017-2018 IDEC Student Design Competition that challenges entrants to create a structure that they feel to spiritual in any personal, emotional, or religious way. Purposefully broad and open ended, the project program asks students to define the specific use of the design and to develop an atmospheric intervention. The purpose can be a religious practice (traditional or emerging),a secular space of reflection or mindfulness, and/or places for commemoration.
CONCEPT//
HARMONIOUS
For this project, an addition has been added to the Basalt Regional Library in Basalt, Colorado that conveys the feeling of peacefulness and place identity in two major ways. First, the overall design will fit seamlessly into the landscape of the mountains and mimic the natural and artificial design of the environment, such as local architecture and character of the city, state and region. Second, the purpose of the space is intended to provide a peaceful atmosphere for education, the expansion of one’s knowledge and understanding which allows for a larger connection to the world around them.

FLOORPLAN OF LIBRARY// The use of line, shape and texture help identify the structure with its surrounding and allows it to be balanced with nature. Local materials, design elements and motifs create a familiar atmosphere that makes the structure seem like it was meant to be there. For the space, the materials and forms are inspired by the environment as well as the preexisting building. The furniture is sourced from Steelcase, which consists of over 50% of recycled materials, uses finishes that correspond with the design while still being functional. The wood paneling imitates the original structure and is made up of locally sourced wood.

LIVING ROOM PERSPECTIVE
PROJECT DESCRIPTION// This residential project is separated into two parts, requiring one to design a residence for a young professional family, who has two children, an 8 year old daughter, and a 6 year old son with autism spectrum disorder. The first phase of the project involves a floor plan that utilizes Universal Design features in two living areas, a large grand room (kitchen, dining, and family living), home office, garage, utility, powder, master suite, 2 children suites, and basement that can be used for an Autism sensory room. The second part of the project utilizes the same floor plan however twenty years have now passed and the residence needed to be modified the so the family would allowed to age in place in their home.
CONCEPT// Landscapes are considered to be the foundation and inspiration for artists, such as Georgia O'Keeffe. Likewise, the home is the foundation and inspiration for families. The landscape is incorporated within the home through colors, materials and design elements that bring consistency while building and developing a fundamental home for years to come.

PHASE ONEDESIGNING FOR AUTISM// DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS//
SENSORY INTEGRATION SPACE
CHILDREN’S ROOM
After conducting research on individuals on the autism spectrum disorder and universal design, several design features were implemented into this project. Spaces should be divided into simple squares and rectangles that are aligned with each other so rooms have a clear and defined purpose. Walls need to be insulated to prevent excessive sound reverberation. The appliances selected emit little to no sound. Downstairs, the integration space in basement allows for over stimulating activities. In the escape spaces, soft and textured materials are used along with different seating and integration options. The space provides lots of natural light, but have remote controlled window shades to control light and glare.
PHASE TWODESIGNING FOR AGING IN PLACE// DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS//
BASEMENT ELEVATION
KITCHEN ELEVATION
For the second part of the project, renovations were made to accommodate for ADA features as well as living areas for an adult with Autism. Grab bars were added to the showers and water closets. Appliances were installed that minimize reaching and bending over. The basement was converted into a seating area, home gym and spa. The rooms were updated for adults but still incorporate design features that reflect research on Autism.

ENTRY TO MAIN RESTAURANT
PROJECT DESCRIPTION// This collaboration project between Skyviews Restaurant (Hospitality & Retail Management) and the Department of Design implemented client interviews, concept development and construction execution with a "real world" component to the partnership. The project consists of a complete renovation of the Skyviews restaurant and facilities that are housed on the seventh floor of the Bank of American building in Lubbock, Texas.
CONCEPT// KINETIC The concept for the Skyview’s restaurant focuses on the synthesis of luxury and performance to create a kinematic atmosphere that enhances the users’ experience. The main consideration for the renovation of Skyview’s is ensure that the restaurant meets building codes. Areas of concern included making the bar and dining room ADA compliant, improving the means of egress within the space, and adding a fire loop corridor on the east side of the building. Items that were also addressed include improving the lighting in the dining room and relocating the buffet to a designated area which opens up the entry to the space. The east side of the building was opened up to improve circulation throughout the space.

FLOOR PLAN OF WEST SIDE//
The main concerns that were addressed in the renovation were to bring the space up to current codes and design a kitchen that was suitable for the purpose of teaching. Items of concern include making the fire stairs more visible from the dining room, making the bar more accessible and adding fire doors to the entrance of the dining room. The kitchen was expanded, which allows for designated space for teaching, service and sanitation. The dining room utilizes banquet seating allows for flexibility in the space and can seat 90 people comfortably. The neutral color scheme supports the concept for the restaurant while maintaining a simple, yet versatile approach.
FLOOR PLAN OF EAST SIDE//
The overall renovation of east side of the restaurant included removing areas of wasted space and creating conference rooms and offices that can serve various purposes. The large conference room was expanded to include a catering kitchen and wine storage to promote wine pairings. An open office system was incorporated on the east side of the building which provides a space for business and collaboration. Elevators and restroom finishes have been updated to coordinate with the desired design concept. The dead end corridor which lead to the fire stairs was updated so that it meets code.
DETAILS//
Overall, the design of the restaurant incorporates banquette seating and square tables that promotes a versatile seating arrangement. Lightweight, stackable chairs (a.) were chosen so that the restaurant can adjust for various size parties. The buffet has been relocated to improve the accessibility. Decorative copper accents (b.) accompany the neutral color scheme to add a decorative element. The current design of the restaurant does not incorporate a lounge. By adding additional seating adjacent to the bar (c.) and entry, the space can be used for waiting and casual seating. The tinted glass divider mimics the design of the bar (d.) and provides separation from the dining room.

OVERVIEW OF LIVING AREAS
PROJECT DESCRIPTION// The Senior Living Residence employs design of a modern residential construction in a Gated Community for a ADA/Universal Client located in Lubbock, Texas. The project incorporates research on steel structures for long span spaces, designing on a established grid and the idea of the geometry of early Texas Houses. Appropriately named The Rio Grande House, inspiration was drawn from the movement of the river and combined with modern, luxurious living to create a timeless Texas home.
CONCEPT// Embodying the feeling luxurious riverside living, the Rio Grande House draws upon aspects of nature as well as creating a feeling of indulgence. Natural forms inspired by the movement of the water and the way people interact with its surface are investigated through means of materials, repeated patterns and custom elements. The interior and exterior interact with each other similarly to the extravagant lifestyle that is waterside living. The abstract arrangements of lines that are found in the environment contrast the simple, severe forms of modern trends. A monochrome color pallet, which is inspired by trends in art and photography of the river, is interrupted by pops of over saturated color that suggest the spontaneous landscape of color along a river.

FLOORPLAN OF GARDEN HOME// Designed with the outdoors in mind, the Rio Grande House displays a sophisticated interaction between the interior and exterior elements of the space. The interior space utilizes an open floorplan with strategically placed public and private areas which allows for a seamless, flowing connection from space to space. The flooring for the entire space incorporates Carrara marble floors, solar reflective glazing, and unfinished concrete and mahogany wood details. Many custom elements, such as the fireplace and unique concrete banquet seating in the living room, adds to the overall design. The house is fully equipped with ADA features and equipment without sacrificing the lavish, modern feeling.

INTERIOR
PERSPECTIBE
OF HALLWAY
PROJECT DESCRIPTION// The purpose of the interior design capstone project is to apply evidence from multiple sources to create a design project that is responsive to human needs and that reflects the interior design student’s cumulative design education. For this project, the goal was to design a unique nightlife venue in the Dallas area that user that incorporates the young adult bar scene with traditional arcade elements, with the intention that the space will encourage more opportunities for positive interactions between guests as well as the environment, thus increasing the overall success of the brand. Through research conducted, successful themed environments greatly affect consumption, attendance and interaction patterns based on exploiting emotional and environmental cues. People are drawn to experience, especially in a time dominated by social media and the endless need to express an exciting lifestyle. Through tangible design elements and emotional associations, the dining and event space will connect with the urban, young adult lifestyle and allow for the guests to be fully submerged in the neon atmosphere. The fun, colorful environment and supporting branding will stimulate guest’s social interactions within the space, provide a picturesque social media playground and enhance the buying experiences.
CONCEPT//
ELECTRIC Color evokes mood and ambiance in a way that is immediate and impactful. Marketing to young, urban adults, the concept for this space combines gaming hub and upscale bar and lounge that embraces bold color within the space. With a variety of entertainment options, unique materials, and an electrifying atmosphere, visitors have fully submerged the Dallas nightlife.

LIGHTING SYSTEMS SCREEN// The design of the screen was inspired by the topography of the environment. The use of vertical lines was taken from the linear effect that the trees create in contrast to the rigid but organic shape of the mountain range in the distance. The horizontal lines represent the way the mountains divide the landscape. The lines have been simplified to create a modern take on the landscape while still creating visual interest in both the physical screen as well as the shadow.
