Locals know that families can find fun in every corner of the metro.

For starters, The Kansas City Zoo in Swope Park is home to nearly 2,000 animals. Insider’s tip — the Safari Sky Tour offers a bird’s eye view of the zoo’s Africa section, featuring zebras, rhinos, giraffes and more.

If treetop travel sounds appealing, the park has an even wilder attraction — Zip KC

Of course, rides that lift you up and spin you around have made Worlds of Fun and its aquatic counterpart, Oceans of Fun, family destinations for decades.

Goats bleating, chickens squawking and youngsters giggling… could mean you’ve found the retro-rural pleasures of the Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead in Overland Park!

But nothing’s more retro than dinosaurs. The Museum at Prairiefire features a towering T-Rex, plus space to practice your fossil-digging.

There are plenty of things to climb on, crawl through, pound on or puzzle over at The Regnier Family Wonderscope Children’s Museum of Kansas City — a place where everything runs fullSTEAM ahead.

Stay on the interactivity train with a trip to Science City, located inside Union Station Kansas City, which offers a hands-on approach to learning about things like weather, chemistry and space travel.

Across the street, Crown Center is perfect for curious kids, where they can get their build on at the LEGOLAND Discovery Center or learn all about underwater life at the SEA LIFE Aquarium

Add to these the many parks and playgrounds on both sides of the state line — among them, a growing number designed to be inclusive, giving better access for families of all kinds to gather for outdoor fun in KC.
