TRADITIONS
9
The Multicultural Greek Council and National Pan-Hellenic Council chapters take pride in the rich emphasis on culture each organization strives to uphold. Chapters embody the culture of their organization through unique chants, calls and hand signs, which are inter/nationally known. Many organizations also either have a special step, stroll or salute. Stepping is a form of percussive dance to create sounds through footsteps, hand claps and words. Rooted in South African culture, many NPHC and MGC organizations create specific steps for competitions and showcases. Saluting is an organized, militant storytelling that praises members through synchronized movements. Many organizations use saluting to show unity and respect for their organization. Strolling is also a popular tradition, which is a choreographed forward movement, often in a single-file line formation. All of these traditions are an important part of being a member of a Multicultural Greek Council and National Pan-Hellenic Greek organization.
