Company Development

Founded in 1973, Metroplan Limited is a UK based manufacturer and supplier of Display, Presentation and Furniture products. As creators of the One Stop Presentations® range, we offer the UK’s widest choice of Display and Presentation products from a single source. Initially a distributor of planning systems based in Essex but due to our success we relocated to Kendal, Cumbria where our head office and manufacturing facility is located. With our own fleet of vehicles our distribution centre is based in the heart of the country’s distribution network in Rushden, Northamptonshire which enables us, together with third party carriers to offer same day despatch on many products.

Our factory is based at our Head Office in Kendal. Products that we manufacture in-house includes noticeboards, whiteboards, printed whiteboards, folding and modular display systems, partitioning screens, literature display, lecterns, and Audio Visual furniture.

Significant investment has been made over the past 5 years in terms of our in-house manufacturing facilities and we are currently manufacturing in our factory over 50% of all products that we sell. Our operations take products from raw-material conversion to assembly and final packaging. Investment in modern precision machinery combined with our skilled workforce ensures a high quality finish to our products.

It is also in Kendal where our in-house Product Designers create many of our products starting at their blueprint through to their implementation into production. Being predominately a manufacturer ensures we can offer a comprehensive range of quality made products, in a wide choice of styles, colour and size options to suit any environment and budget within acceptable lead times. Our aim is simply to be the “No. 1 choice for Display and Presentation Products”. To achieve and maintain this goal we are dedicated to offering a range of products that reflects end user demand and changes in the market place, by introducing new and innovative products each year, and combining this with excellent customer service support.

Eco-friendly Branded Products

Our Eco Friendly range of products represents the epitome of the sustainable choice, as only when our stringent standards are met do we endorse them as an Eco Friendly product. These standards involve the raw materials, the manufacturing process and the packaging. Products displaying this logo mean they have been made from recycled materials and you can be assured the Eco-Friendly Noticeboards, Whiteboards and Duo Boards are made from up to of 90% of recycled goods. In addition, they are assembled using solvent & VOC free adhesives and all packaging uses recycled card.

Resist-a-Flame® Products

It is a legal requirement that boards sited in corridors and escape routes within public buildings comply with European fire regulations. In order to do so Metroplan has invested into manufacturing a Resist-a-Flame® range whose unique design does not support the fire and prevents it from spreading. This range of products fully comply with these regulations, all classified as B-SI, d0 according to BS-EN 13501-1 in the European ‘Reaction to Fire’ Test. This means, whenever you see a Resist-a-Flame® logo you can be sure this product has been designed, manufactured and tested in accordance with the highest applicable standard, so you can be confident that your noticeboard, covered noticeboard or showcase are fire resistant and safe to use.

Why Resist-A-Flame?

Where Resist-a-Flame?

Kent Public buildings with open access have much higher risks as the people within the building change constantly. Visitors to the building tend to be there temporarily so their care and respect is not the same as a full time occupant. These increased risks lead to a far greater incident of fire. In UK schools for example there are in excess of 300 fires every year, most being caused by arson and costing around £65 million in damage. School corridors tend to be full of artwork, coursework, posters, information and notices. These can all contribute to a greater risk of the spread of fire.

Schools are not alone as corridors in hospitals, colleges, museums, university campuses, and even office buildings are often lined with noticeboards. This is because we all want information to be seen by as many people as possible. However due to their size, frequency and close proximity to one another noticeboards can significantly contribute to the spread of fire. A fire could be accelerated and spread if the noticeboards themselves are non-flame retardant and therefore combustible. For these reasons it is not only common sense but a requirement that noticeboards within corridors need to be fire retardant.

Resist-A-Flame Noticeboards

According to the regulations a corridor or potential escape route in a public building must have wall linings that meet BS-EN:13501. This includes corridors, stairwells, and even rooms where a secondary exit that may double as a fire exit.

Noticeboards are classified as wall linings and the Building Bulletin 100 (BB100) makes particular reference to noticeboards within school buildings.

It advises that the total assembled noticeboard must be tested to BS-EN:13501 and therefore not to rely on any individual components certification. Therefore noticeboards that simply claim to have fire rated cloth covering would not meet the minimum standard, nor in fact give any protection from the spread of flame.

Metroplan have undertaken rigorous independent testing and Resist-a-Flame products have been classified as B-s1, d0 according to BS-EN:13501, therefore suitable for wall applications.

Resist-a-Flame variants are available in noticeboards, colour framed noticeboards, tamperproof noticeboards, showcases and multi bank noticeboard solutions.
