Maybe not, but you’ve heard their compositions, “Fine and Dandy” and “Meet Me Tonight in Dreamland,” all jazz standards today. This week, The Jim Cullum Jazz Band tips their hat to the ladies with a jazz concert of tunes composed by women.

3/13v International Sweethearts of Rhythm: America’s #1 All-Girl Band Organized to raise money for their Mississippi orphanage in the late 1930s, the International Sweethearts of Rhythm (pictured) became a sensation in the 1940s. This program tells their story through their recordings, interviews with surviving band members and the music of The Jim Cullum Jazz Band.

The sound of surprise describes both jazz itself and the enduring premise of "The Annals of Jazz." Since 1959, host Richard Hadlock has been improvising on historical themes and bringing forth worthy performers—from Armstrong to Zorn. Each Sunday, we may find Annals in Europe, Asia, Latin America or Back of Town anywhere.

3/14 Bandleader/Showman Cab Calloway He was the "Hi De Ho" man, a legendary showman, gifted singer, bandleader, actor and fashion trendsetter. This larger than life figure, immortalized in cartoons and caricatures, was also the leader of one of the greatest bands of the Swing Era. As an incubator for new talent, Cab's (pictured) band launched the careers of Dizzy Gillespie, Ben Webster, Milt Hinton, Cozy Cole, Chu Berry and Doc Cheatham, among others.

3/21 Saxophonist Paul Desmond Alto saxophonist Paul Desmond's (pictured) airy tone was just one aspect of his great artistry. He was a wholly original improviser whose unfailing lyricism, clear logic, and advanced harmonic sense produced some of the finest solos on record. Many of these solos were recorded during his long association with pianist Dave Brubeck. Their chemistry led to enormous success during the '50s and '60s, including one of the most popular jazz recordings of all-time—Desmond's Take Five.

3/15 Great American Songwriters: Vernon Duke 3/22v Luciana Souza Trio Brazilian vocalist Luciana Souza (pictured) has made a home in both the Bossa Nova and jazz traditions. For this concert she adds texts by ee cummings and Pablo Neruda. Souza’s acrobatic inflections are propelled by the percussion of Cyro Baptista and the guitar of Romero Lubambo.

3/2v Roberta Piket Pianist and composer Roberta Piket (pictured with Marian) stands among the elite minds of modern jazz. She holds degrees in both Jazz Studies and Computer Science, and is a swinging, straight-ahead player as well as a creative improviser. On this Piano Jazz, she gets together with host Jon Weber for a set of her original music as well some traditional tunes, including the Marian McPartland ballad In The Days of Our Love.
3/9v Ladies of Song with guest host Murray Horowitz 3/16v Nicki Parrott Australian singer/bassist Nicki Parrott (pictured)made her mark on the New York scene working with the likes of Skitch Henderson, Billy Taylor, Warren Vache and the late Les Paul. She has also emerged as a first-rate vocalist. On this Piano Jazz, Parrott performs her enchanting take on Peggy Lee's I Love The Way You're Breaking My Heart.
