THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WAsHING AND GENTLEWASH

®

VERSATILE APPLIANCES, COMBINED WITH THE OPERATOR’S PROFESSIONALISM, ARE AN ESSENTIAL STARTING POINT FOR PROFESSIONAL TEXTILE TREATMENT IN WATER

Water textile treatment. Why it works, how it works and what does it use: equipment and detergents.

The textile world is constantly evolving together with the habits of the market and its ever changing demands and requirements, therefore, Gentlewash® has been designed to change with them! Don’t think about Gentlewash® as a static feature, because it is simply not, a multitude of changing demands cannot be met with just one pre-set feature. This is why Grandimpianti I.L.E with it’s inspired Gentlewash® system is committed to meeting the requirements of a changing market whilst relying on professionals within this sector. Once again, we highlight the fact that Gentlewash® system is a professional water-based treatment for garments, which often carry the label “dry cleaning only” or “Do not wash”! Teamwork is essential to operating success, in a fine balance between operator skill, equipment flexibility and correct selection of detergents that ultimately minimise side effects on garments. In Summary, this system:

E

xstensive research conducted in Europe and USA has determined that domestic water treatment for delicate garments increases complications related to the fabric quality, such as felting and shrinkage, by up to 50%. These complications can occur rather easily and be further multiplied during both the washing and drying phases, which are strictly connected to each other. The world of household appliances has always been more competitive than that of the industrial appliances, which has always ensured a high level of cleaning performance. In this market it is common place to find domestic washing machines featuring high levels of efficiency, whilst ensuring reliable results and providing a wide array of features. he Gentlewash® system provides an alternative water-based cleaning method as a truly viable alternative to conventional dry cleaning. oreover, it allows cleaning professionals to meet the high quality requirements normally expected of the domestic appliance market providing fabric conformity throughout the cleaning process. Optimal efficiency is achieved with a substantial reduction in harm to the environment which would typically be caused by chemical based dated dry cleaning technology. This is brilliantly achieved whilst avoiding damage to delicate fabrics. Whilst a fairly respectable level of cleanliness can be achieved in domestic water-based cleaning; in our range of professional washers, Gentlewash® provides several distinct benefits not easily achieved in domestic machines:

These last two stages of the process require professionalism of both operator and equipment. To achieve this equipment must have special parameters, besides just the right additives in the right amount. This is why water-based cleaning must be distinguished from professional water textile treatment. The textile world is constantly evolving together with the habits of the market and its ever changing demands and requirements, therefore, Gentlewash® has been designed to change with them! Detergent selection is important, the market Is constantly producing cutting-edge products suitable for removing non-organic dirt whilst restoring softness to garments and its fibres revitalizing the structure of the fabric, whilst preparing it for the final finishing phase. Operator professionalism completes the process of finishing and ironing the garments. The process starts by selecting the garments to be washed according to the type of fabric and dirt and continues with the washing phase in the washing machine. Besides the clothes, the water required for washing and rinsing phases is conveyed in this appliance. The GUIDO® and G4-Wiz® controls dose all the detergents and additives required for the specific treatment selected by the operator at the right time and in the correct amount. One of the most interesting aspects of the Gentlewash® system is what the washing machine drains: no more solvents or smudges to be disposed of but rather only waste water to be drained. The subsequent drying phase is one of the most delicate of the process, as both the garment humidity and mechanical action, given by the drum rotation, must be monitored. The controls carrie out this operation. The final phase of the process involves the operator’s trained skill and experience to provide the garments with that special final touch and quality. The garment is now ready to be processed, washed in water, dried with warm air and

ironed by a professional. The Gentlewash® process is not difficult to understand; it is simply a work instrument that allows the use of a traditional element: Water. And what about the drying? finish, with a surface that is extremely soft and pleasant to touch and caressing. The Gentlewash® finishing equipment is used to enhance the operator’s professional skills and deliver to the client the ultimate professionally finished garment as if it were new.

Even the drying phase does not involve complex processes: The EB tumble dryer is just another modern instrument that allows using traditional elements, such as heat and air. The heated air is conveyed inside the tumble dryer and, together with the automatic regulation of the drum revs, restores the fibre to its original volume. Wearing a garment dried with a Gentlewash® tumble dryer means rediscovering the softness and all its characteristics, such as warmth, breathability that convinced us to purchase it. The skill of the operator is distinctly visible in the final stage, ie finishing and ironing the garments. Here the textile returns to a renewed smooth

GENTLEWASH® SYSTEMBY GRANDIMPIANTI I.L.E., OF COURSE IT WORKS!

GENTLEWASH®, FEELING THE PLEASURE OF A CLEANED AND WASHED GARMENT.

What is innovative in water, sun and air?

GENTLE WASH IS CURRENTLY IN USE IN VARIOUS LOCATIONS ACROSS THE WORLD

Despite professional water treatment has been introduced a few decades ago, perplexity and mistrust are always predominant feelings when approaching a new system, and if this is also innovative, then doubts increase. Generally, when we compare the traditional washing system with the water-based Gentlewash® system, it is easy to doubt the claims of water saving and reduced environmental impact.

Washing machines are used with load ratio 1:20, (halved compared to the traditional 1:10 for washing more resistant and less delicate fibres), but this does not compromise water consumption. This is also due to the use of state of the art detergents that allow reducing water consumption even for extremely delicate washing cycles: water saving is ensured once again.

To substantiate these claims we can clarify the following: the amount of water used by Gentlewash® appliances cannot be compared with that in a standard programme configuration, as it is almost always washing scenarios structured in different ways using a small fraction of the resources required in a conventional washing programme. A Gentlewash® treatment is made up of three distinct phases, washing, rinsing and finally spinning at the maximum speed possible, against six or eight phases of the traditional diagram for cotton treatment. Gentlewash® requires up to 50% less water than a traditional wash system!

Detergents used in this system are specifically formulated and highly biodegradable: often made up of enzymes active at temperatures lower than 40°C.

THE SINNER DIAGRAM ACCORDING TO GENTLEWASH® SYSTEM Gentlewash® redistributes the constituent factors of the washing action, focusing on time. Small doses of mechanical action, thermal energy and chemistry can fully be effective, avoiding wastes and protecting the environment.

As a result, washing at low temperatures with low water consumption requires less energy than the traditional processes. But then, how can the Gentlewash® that uses water for washing work? By simply using time at its best, measuring out

the other three essential components of the washing process, which are temperature, mechanical action and chemical action! In order to optimise the latter, the washing machine set for Gentlewash® system is equipped with the 8-pump control for automatically dosing the products. Upon request, the number of managed products can be Increased up to 13. With intelligent use of slowed down washing programmes ultimately longer than a traditional washing cycle, the Gentlewash® system allows significant reduction of other factors. Although fewer washing resources are utilized on the machine than regular washing requires, there is ample technique to ensure excellent washing results. Under these conditions, specially formulated chemicals are required which can clean at low temperatures and with reduced mechanical action. Because fewer chemicals are required in process, one rinse cycle is more than sufficient to remove it. The length of time required for the washing process is reduced

as a result of less rinsing being required. An easy rinsing cycle facilitates ironing and eliminates possible skin irritation factors. In fact, often detergents that are not fully rinsed cause redness and irritation, due to the direct and prolonged chemical action on the skin. Gentlewash®, allows feeling the pleasure of a cleaned and washed garment. An impeccable garment not only to see but also to touch and smell: experiencing the clean scent is almost like feeling the freshness of the water that made it this way.

G-NEWS 8 Washing the fabric to remove the stains and bad odours, is only a part of the Gentlewash® treatment, whose subsequent drying process is extremely delicate. When the garment is in the tumble dryer, the water buffer function between the fibres is replaced by the hot and dry air with all its drying capacity. The borderline between dry and very dry is extremely subtle and once exceeded, consequences are often irreparable for the garment. As water no longer has its buffer function, it is easy to exceed with friction between fibres and, as a result, running into phenomena as felting and shrinkage of the garment. Thankfully, some potentially dangerous factors can be managed automatically by the GWiz® control and GDZ dryers, preventing side effects. The correct preparation for tumble drying starts before selecting the drying diagram.

THE DRYING PHASE IS ESSENTIAL Additives used in the washing phases prepare the fabric for being dried in the tumble dryer. However, drying with a traditional tumble dryer (a simple countdown at a set temperature) must not be confused with professional drying, i.e., a procedure that can take care of textile fibres when removing water from the fabric. A simple temperature control, time and rotation of the drum are no longer enough, even if carried out with electronic devices. In other words, param-

This work team can be carried out by G-Wiz® control. The Gentlewash® process final result is a protected and revitalised fibre that has its original

Grandimpianti was the first to launch this tumble dryer in the market, in 2008, with real drying diagrams. No more countdowns but phases of a process that self-regulate the intensity and duration according to humidity of the fabrics being treated.

PREPARE THE FIBRE FOR THE IRONING AND FINISHING FINAL PHASE: THE FABRIC IS REVITALISED!

Models with differential humidity probe and all Gentlewash® ready models allow monitoring of the residual humidity in the textile fibre and, according to the value detected, the G-Wiz® control harmonises all the other parameters autonomously. For example, in the first stage of the drying cycle, the amount of humidity is high as well as the weight of the clothes. On the other hand, the discharge temperature is very low, but increases quickly when heat is provided. During phase 2 (intermediate that we can define as drying), all the thermal energy provided by hot air evaporates the water contained in the fabrics, thereby, the

Tumble drying with electronic control? Gentlewash® goes beyond! draining temperature is maintained more or less constant. Now the clothes weight decreases visibly, whereas the volume gradually returns to the original values. As soon as the fabric is almost dry, phase 3 (the final phase) begins, the discharge temperature increases suddenly and the entire fibre dries quickly: the weight and volume of the garments are ideal for ironing and the drying cycle ends automatically. During this sequence of events, the G-Wiz® control harmonises multiple functions, such as the inlet and outlet air temperature, drum speed and duration of several phases of the drying cycle. The illustrated drying diagram shows a red line indicating the trend of draining temperature. This reliable indicator shows how

the entire process is unfolding in real time. The G-Wiz® control keeps the operation of the tumble dryer automatically within the set values, as too dry or a garment that is not sufficiently dried is difficult to manage during the finishing phase; the result of the entire process can therefore be compromised. In other words, there is a subtle line between a good result and jeopardising the entire process, besides the quality of the garment. This separation line between too humid and too dry is the target of the professional tumble drying process. However,

sometimes, even the most reliable equipment requires the operator’s experience. The G-Wiz® control allows the experienced operator to interact with the drying cycle in progress: monitoring data which is displayed on the machine while it is in operation. At this stage the experienced operator is able to customize in real time the operation to achieve the desired result of the particular garment being dried. This simple harmonious interaction of skill with the right equipment for the task is essential to ensure best results.

The drying diagram developed by Grandimpianti and launched in the market in 2008 The system managed by the G-Wiz® control monitors the humidity contained in the fabrics when they dry and self-adjusts the drying parameters to prevent phase four: fabrics damaged due to excessive heat and friction, besides useless and expensive energy waste.
