What Is A School ? The project located at Malcolm Baug, Jogeshwari [West], questions the idea of a school. Malcolm Baug is a Parsi Colony located in the midst of a Muslim Dominant area of Jogeshwari. The colony is a gated community that allows ownership to those of the same religion [Parsi]. The colony is extremely beautiful with a steep contour. As one enters the colony the stark change can be noticed from the extremely busy Swami Vivekanand Road to the silence experianced in Malcolm Baug. Malcolm Baug has an abundance of trees and has its development mostly catering to the bungalow typology. It provides for all the acitivies required for the community to sustain itself, from pre primary schooling to recreational to community spaces. The project addresses towards rethinking the idea of schooling. The residents are highly educated, there is immense interaction within the community thus allowing for the residents to share their experinace with one another through educating the younger genration in aspects where government education fails. The Programmes and structure is designed in a way where the community can benefit from one another as well as allow the residents surrounding the colony. The location of the site within Malcolm Baug is towards the periphery thus not disturbing the silence within the community. The programme consists of a library, lecture rooms, exhibition spaces, adiministration and an office space. Semester 4| SEA. Location: Jogeshwari, Mumbai, Maharashtra Guide: Kalpit Ashar.

Plinthos Siddhpur, a small town located in the midst of Gujarat. Siddhpur is often known for its immensely intricate designs of art deco houses. This area is accessed by those either old, as an old age hometown or those whose family has a marriage in the near future. Most of the Owners of bungalows in Siddhpur are currently staying in different parts of the counrty and the world. They generally have a housekeeper who takes care of the house in their absense. Each Bungalow is noted by a family logo, mainly the initials of the owner. The design was derived through a series of expirments from the architectonics of Siddhpur. The domain selected was plinths. The plinths of Siddhpur fascinated me as they were of different types and catered to different functions within the built environment. Ranging from accessibilty to transitional, from a step up to non existential, were the functions of the plinth. 3 nodes were identified within Siddhpur where there would be a creation of an intervention. The node near the clock tower was designated to me for my intervention. This area had three abandoned structures, which were perviously used for a maternity clinic, now shifted down the road to the station. The intervention tries building itself around two of the three abandoned structures. The programme consists of a theatre for 50, cafeteria, gallery, office spaces and an archival room Semester 3| SEA Location: Siddhpur, Gujarat. Guide: Rupali Gupte, Samir Raut.

Dixit Cards
PLINTHS The Dixit card was interpreted as, an enitity is trying to go towards a goal that is seen but cannot be achieved, similar to the plinths in Siddhpur. They can be seen from the outside, can be accessed from the inside, but no one allows that access. As if the plinths are hiding somehting from the public outside.
THEY ARE THE CREATORS, THEY ARE THE INITIATORS, THEY KEEP SECRETS, THEY HAVE CHANGED. Haiku

Resourceful School The project oriented itself towards a design through the aspect of the embodied energy within a structure and self sufficiency. Suvidhya School, located in Malvani is a school divided into two perfectly identical halves. one half catering to an english vernacular schooling authority, and the other marathi. The resource audit of the entire school was done to summesrize its usage of water, electricity, embodied energy, food, light and ventilation. The School has been retrofitted with another built form adjoining it to cater to its new programme. The programme caters towrads designing a design school for graphic design, furniture design and product design. All the necessary steps have been taken to look after the embodied energy, water consumption, electrical usages to be minimal in nature, driving the project towards self sufficiency. Semester 3| SEA Location: Siddhpur, Gujarat. Guide: Sanjay Prakash, Chitra Viswanathan, Ravin dra Punde, Samir Raut.

Contemprory Museum The project aims towards making a complete working drawing set for the construction of a contemprory museum designed in Bandra Fort. The built form has to be in Reinforced cement Concrete. The total area of the project is 6000 sqm. The design of the museum is in exposed concrete with a glazed facade. There is a central courtyard and the structure is taken on stilts for the allowance of movment of public towards the sea making the ground plane free from any formal activity. The programme consists of a basement car park, necessary service rooms, exhibiton soaces artificially ventillated, confernece room, cafeteria, admin, storage, library for children and adults. The design was approached to maintain a visual and openess towards the connection of the Arabian Sea to the mainland. The exposed concrete allowed for the structure to be robust. Semester 6| SEA Location: Bandra, Mumbai, Maharashtra. Guide: Ravindra Punde, Dipti Bhaindarkar.

HYDRAULIC HINGE RUBBER TO CREATE VACUM IN ARRESTED POSITION
Long Span Structures
ARRESTED POSITION
The project is situated in Bueno Aires, the capital of Argentina.
100X100 BOX SECTION BEAMS WASHER AND NUT TO ALLOW FREE MOVEMENT
The design process included immense usage of radiation analysis, psychometric charts, wind rose diagrams, temperature range and use and designing of new technology and study of long span structures, as 30m by 50m column free space was required.
ROLLER CHANNEL
100X100 VERTICAL TRUSS MEMBER
STOPPER STEEL SEAT FOR ALLOWING ALL MEMBERS TO JOIN PINNED JOINT
HYDRAULIC GAS HINGE MECHANIZED TO ALLOW MOVEMENT BETWEEN 0 DEG AND 45 DEG ATTACHED TO A ROLLER CHANNEL ALLOWING FOR THE MOVEMENT. THE TOP OF THE PANEL HAS SOLAR SENSITIVE CELLS THAT REACT ACCORDING TO THE CODING AND SUN ANGLE DURING THE DAY TO ALLOW MAXIMUM VENTILATION AND SUNLIGHT. EACH PANEL IS TRIANGULAR TO MAXIMIZE THE SPEED VELOCITY TO DECREASE THE HUMIDITY IN THE SURROUNDINGS
To acquire such a large span, architecturally exposed structural steel was utilised as its principal structural system. a space frame with 1.7m deep girders was used to attain the required area.
THE ROOF AFTER HALL 1 IS CLADDED REFLECTIVE TILES AND OPAQUE GLASS TO ALLOW HEAT TO TRANSFER DURING THE THE WINTER MONTHS THUS DECREASING THE DEMAND FOR HEATERS INSIDE THE SECOND HALL
The roof of the project was sensitive to direct sunlight, this would allowed it to open within the azimuth and altitude, thus allow indirect sunlight from one direction. the other triangle of the roofing panel was open for ventilation and diffused south light.

On two Columns The project is situated besides a river, to allow for a visual deck for viewing a boat race. The motive of the design was to make the structure architecturally exposed in structural steel, develope details for junctions and allow it to stand on two columns using valid load pattern calculations to derive section sizes. Semester 4| SEA Location: Guide: Ravindra Punde, Dipti Bhaindarkar, Chaitan ya Mehta.
