TRAVEL TRENDS

We are often asked what’s on trend in the world of adventure travel. Here are just a few that we have been seeing at KE.

Personal Challenges And Journeys

With the wellbeing benefits of keeping active in the outdoors widely reported, it’s no surprise that we are seeing more customers looking to challenge themselves physically as well as mentally on our trips. Whether it be the Everest Marathon, a well-known climb or trek such as Kilimanjaro, or something more off the beaten track such as the 3 highest peaks in Ecuador, there are many to choose from to challenge the body and mind.

An increasing number of travellers love the idea of a journey and many of these challenges involve travelling on foot or by bike from one point to another. Not all challenges or journeys have to be physically demanding however and some of our most popular trips are far more leisurely. Self-Guided cycling from Prague to Dresden or Vienna to Budapest are good examples, as is the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route and the Portuguese Way from Porto to Santiago de Compostela.

Extending Your Trip

We are definitely seeing more of our travellers extending their trips for a few days, either before or after their KE holiday. Many are exploring the destination in more depth, whilst others are taking the opportunity to rest and relax before heading back home. This reflects the industry-wide trend of fewer overseas trips, but staying for longer.

The other interesting trend, reported by the Independent recently, is that one in four workers plan to take advantage of remote working to log in from abroad in 2023. It is a great opportunity to extend your trip for a few days without having to take additional annual leave.

Some of our popular extensions include visiting the Galapagos Islands after spending time in Peru or Ecuador, or going on a 4 day safari after climbing Kilimanjaro.

More Going Flight Inclusive Or Flight Free

A higher proportion of customers are now buying a flight-inclusive package from KE, especially on long-haul trips. Since Covid, the importance of having full financial protection in place has been seen as increasingly important and by buying a package including flights from us, means that your money is 100% protected by our ATOL license. This is not the case if you choose to buy your flight separately. The other advantage is that if there are changes to a flight schedule after booking, KE will be able to facilitate changes to transfers and other joining arrangements.

The other trend we are seeing relates to connecting travel. An increasing number of travellers are choosing to take the train or ferry to join our trips in Europe. It’s a great travel experience in its own right, as well as being more comfortable, relaxing and of course far better for the environment. It’s definitely worth considering if you have a bit more time to spare.
