TQM books can be your guide to success Success comes in the life of a man through Knowledge. A person without knowledge is like an empty vessel without water. Learning makes a man mentally powerful and encourages him to move forward in life without any obstruction. The role of books cannot be neglected in the course of attaining Knowledge. In today’s world of intense competition, no business can survive without offering quality products and services to its customers. Whether your business is small or large it is always the customer’s satisfaction that matters the most. Many big business men around the world have achieved unprecedented success by gaining knowledge from the books. Out of the numerous manufacturing books, one such book is the TQM books. Well, before starting our discussion about these books let us know what TQM is all about. TQM or Total Quality Management is some of the methods that are applied by large business organisations in order to improve their productivity. All the employees of an organisation actively participate to implement this process. The origination of TQM can be dated back in the 1950s after it was invented by Walter A. Shewhart. Its usage started in the manufacturing sector and today it has spread in places like schools, churches. They are also applied in areas like hotel management and highway maintenance. In order to implement TQM successfully one must incorporate the eight elements that are given below: Customer focus: Customer is the sole decision maker about the level of quality maintained irrespective of the fact that whether a company has trained all its employees or upgraded its technology. Employee Participation: Productivity of the employees cannot be improved if there is fear inside them. Hence, it is quite necessary to work in a friendly environment that will foster productivity. Process -centered: Before beginning production, one must take all the necessary inputs from the supplier so that products can be delivered according to the expectation of the customers. Integrated system: All the departments in an organisation must be integrated together in order to achieve the desired output. Systematic approach: Here, the constant focus of the management should be to achieve the objectives according to the expectations of the mission and vision of the firm. Continuous improvement: This involves finding more creative and analytical ways to face intense competition from the industry. Fact based decision making: Merely making a decision does not matter it must be based on factual data.

Communications: It is a very essential part of any business organisations that a proper communication must be there between employees. It also involves making strategies. The TQM process includes four categories. They are Plan, Do, Check and Act. In the first phase that is planning the primary cause of the problem is ascertained after collecting the necessary data of the problem. In the next phase that is the doing phase a solution to the problem is implemented. In the checking phase, evaluation of the problem is done. The last phase is that of acting where people present their opinion regarding the problem. Now we come to the most interesting part of Total Quality Management that is Ergonomics. Ergonomics is a type of principle that is today applied in most of the business organisations in order to improve productivity. Well, to explain this let us take an example. The chair in the offices is often not made in an appropriate manner. As a result of which employees often complain of backaches and other problems. Keeping in mind about these problems, now most of the furniture making companies apply the principle of ergonomics that is while making a chair they take in to account all important considerations like distance of the person from the computer and height of the chair from the ground.
