One for One, XO3 - A
medical cart for the whole world
A group sponsored project with Modo medical carts - designing a cart to be used with a tablet pc. We chose One Laptop Per Child’s XO3 tablet, to be released in 2012. The XO3 tablet is intended as an educational tool; its function is based solely in the classroom. However its rugged, slim, and seamless design makes it ideal for a different application. XO3 Cart gives this device a new life, in medicine. The price of one cart + tablet purchased in the developed world, pays for another cart + tablet to be sent to a clinic in the developing world. One for one.

Physical prototyping Building sketch models throughout the design process as well as constructing a final prototype established the scale and practicality of the design. This part of the design process brought paper concepts into 3D space where they were measurable, testable, moveable, breakable, and alterable. The “paper clip form was found to be an iconic and useful shape for grabbing a hold of and attaching things to. b

How can a tablet PC save
lives?
The XO3 tablet could not be more perfectly suited for the hospital environment. With wireless internet, an unbreakable glass screen, a sanitary monocoque shell, a digital camera allowing undocumented patients to be catalogued, GPS and possible language translation - this project is about seeing that potential and tapping into it.

User Identity
a self made man who takes pride in his image and his work. He knows that there is no time to second guess and fills every minute of his day. Whether it be his calming ritualistic mornings, nose to the grindstone work days, or illuminated evenings, he always gives nothing but his best.
