McGill-Toolen Student Starts Summer Literacy Program
Ella Wilson started a Summer Literacy Service Project in February of this year. Her goal was to collect enough books to fill 10 backpacks for 10 students in foster care so that they would have reading materials over their summer break. She collected well over 1,000 books and was able to not only fill those ten backpacks but also give every student at Kate Shepard Elementary School two books to take home over the summer. The foster students each received a new backpack, lunch box, pencil pouch, school supplies, activity books and several books to keep them reading over the summer. Ella was interviewed by WPMI News and said that she hopes she has made a small impact encouraging a love for reading with these students.
