The plan evolved from a traditional Pulli Kolam. The central area that houses a Thulasi madam forms the core of the design. Transition spaces like Thinnai, verandahs create a buffer between the inner and outer zones and aid in thermal comfort. Other spaces are planned with due consideration of the professional requirements of the actor.

As seen in the above pictures the evolution of the site from 2006 to 2019 shows a clear increase in urbanisation in the resdential areas, while remaining stagnent on the agricultural side. From this we can predict that a similar type of development will take place for next 10 years as well, hence securing the views of the agriculture land from site.

5
The shutdown of commercial activities åýåÏƋĜvely cut oý the primary source of income for many of these labour migrants, leaving them with little or no resources to ride out a twenty-one-day lockdown period.
With factories and workplaces shut down due to the lockdown imposed in the country, many of these migrants were left jobless and landed on the streets.
Millions of migrant workers had to deal with the loss of income, food shortages and uncertainty about their future.
WALKING BACK HOME
With no choice left, thousands of these workers set themselves on the way back to their hometown by foot, with no other means of transport due to this lockdown.
POST LOCKDOWN SCENARIO As soon as the pandemic situation comes under control, the migrant workers will turn back to the cities for employment. Then, the two major concerns for the migrant workers will bå× Ānding a job and getting a temporary place to stay in, as soon as possible. Once this happens successfully, they will go back to their regular lifestyle.
W EL
CO ME TO P U N
IMPACT OF LOCKDOWN ON DIFFERENT SETS OF MIGRANT WORKERS Construction workers
E MEDIUM RISK
During lockdown- The construction companies provided ‘camps’ for the migrant workers to stay in. Though the living conditions were not that great, they had no choice. They were given an option to continue living there for a few months, after which they had to vacate. Left with no choice, they set on their way back to their states of origin. Post lockdown - They will come back to the cities and join the companies. They will be forced to stay in the camps with poor facilities.
Industrial workers MEDIUM RISK
During lockdown - The workers either lived in units provided by the companies or apartments with high rents. With the commencement of pandemic, they lost their jobs, and had no savings to pay the rent. Post lockdown - The workers will come back and join the companies and continue to live without basic amenities.
Retail or stand alone workers
During lockdown - They lose their everyday job and end up with no money to sustain their livelihood. Post lockdown - They will come back to the cities, and either start their own small business or search for a job in a small-scale industry. Till then they will need a temporary place to live in.
HIGH RISK
INFERENCE
The retail or standalone workers are ±ýåÏƋåÚ the most since they do not have a permanent home to go to. No job means no money, which implies no home till they resume their work.

There is no work available back in the village which is why I am forced to travel to the city."

All the basic amenities, such as food, water, and electricity are taken care of by the company. A designated space is provided for washing and drying clothes. Around 60 toilets are provided in total, which is well in proportion to the number of workers staying in these units. It lies in close proximity to the construction site, thereby reducing transport charges.

CONS
The dormitories are overcrowded, with 8 people sharing one single space. Often there is no extra room for furniture. The individual dwelling units are too compact. The rent for a few units is quite high considering the low income of the migrant workers. The toilets and bathrooms are not hygienic. The living spaces are not well-lig and are poorly ventilated giving the space a gloomy atmosphere.

DEMAND AND SUPPLY
Considering the increasing number of migrant workers moving from villages to cities, it is ÆåĀƋƋĜng to say that the demand for housing units in the urban sector is rapidly increasing. Here, the ÚĜýåųånce between the demand and supply arises due to a crisis. The government has initiated numerous housing projects under various schemes, but not all of them are as åýåÏƋĜve as they are presumed to be. Often, the number of such projects is insƚþÏĜånt for the huge migrant population. Hence, one of our major goals is to bridge the gap between the demand and the supply by bringing temporary policy changes that cater to a lot of people over a period of time, till the demand is supplied.

PRESENT LOW RISE CONSTRUCTION Behind the lavish curtain walls of the high-rise buildings lies a truth that people often tend to overlook. The over- exploitation of resources often ĀĬĬŸ the pockets of the rich. Our idea is to use resources judiciously, only as much as required for each user, and provide a design that caters to all their basic requirements.
