Portfolio of Works
Keerti Javali
North Carolina State University M.Arch Graduate 2021
The following selected works presented here reflect my thought process and design thinking. I have showcased seven different works: works done in studio, professional office setting, competition, hands on learning and a few personal sketches, with the hope to showcase my different skill sets, that I have developed in my architectural education. Moving forward, I hope to perpetually develop on these platforms to become a holistic designer.

Tall Building design + City planning | ARC 503 AAD | Professor: Wayne Place in collaboration with SOM Architects|| Location: San Francisco,CA | Fall 2020, Team of 3.
VEHICULAR ACCESS Proposed connecting bridge between SF and oakland, where Alameda acts as a connecting point. The access within the city is separated between walkable, biking and car access entries for easier movement. FORM MICROCITIES Micro cities to form sustainable and well equipped areas within the reach of the people, which would in turn come together to form stronger city.
The Project speculates the redevelopment of an old naval base through the design of a new Masterplan and a 1500’ Skyscraper, located on the island of Alameda,San Francisco,CA.
DENSITY POPULATE Addition of smaller green areas within the city to create activation of public area.
In the time of the COVID-19 pandemic, parts of our current infrastructure have failed us. The question of a new urban is raised, what must change for a better future? The project is driven by such questions based on current urban strategies.
INNER CUTS Provision of public spaces located strategically in order to be walkable within 15 mins of walk.
The design of the new city is a direct response to the financial district of San Francisco and Oakland city. This city is meant to become a mediatory between them. Furthermore, it is designed as a response to the ongoing housing crisis in the bay area.
GRID OVERLAY Helps laying ground distribution for the city. PRESERVATION Keeping the green area along the city boundary helps create a micro climate within in the city and also create equal access to the people within the city.

01.CASE STUDY
A Studio project focusing on precast concrete panels. Spring 2020. ARC 503-005 AAD | Professor:Dana Gulling | Role: Research, Diagram making, casting scaled precast components,Schematic design | Type: Academic building (College of Design extension) | Spring 2020
The Project is designed to house the Design Library and Graduate studio spaces as an extension to the existing COD. It aims to connect and create spaces, that extend and merge in the context of the campus. The project not only transcends to become a learning space but also a teaching tool that demonstrates the expressive amalgamation of pre-cast concrete architecture with landscape and structure.

ENVIRONMENT The project responds to its surroundings by orienting itself meaningfully with the site surroundings, making way for the panaromic views. The site boundaries direct the over all massing of the project which consists of the commercial zone on the grade level, opening to the public and continuing up untill the 22nd floor with office spaces. The 42 story high adjacent massing consists of the residential zone. Both of these are connected by a glazed element. The chamfered site also encourages a new entry road that connects the domino park on the waterfront adding value to the site. On the facade are the precast concrete panels that are designed to respond to the sunpath, restricting the harsh sunlight into the interiors of the building.

The RACC
Raleigh Arts and Crafts Center | Arc 500 Comprehensive studio | Professor: Doug Pierson | Type: Public space | Fall 2019
The Site
Driving factor
Basic volume
The Raliegh Arts and Crafts Center is located on the intersection of E.martin and S. pearson street, right across Moore square,Raliegh. The moore square has been a gathering, reflection, entertainment and recreation space in Raliegh and the design intension of the RACC is influenced by the presence of it and how it could accomodate, respond and extend inself within the site. The project exemplifies how a design idea and architecture with a basic intension can positively affect the community by attracting the new involvement and energy.

The Process The primary axis responding to moore sqaure, divides the otherwise rectangular basic solid volume with a transparent “spine” that not only holds the two solid volumes together that houses the different programmes, but also brings in light and circulation into the building.

The form of the building is imagined to be two solid volumes held together by a transparent volume on a concrete plinth that connects to the ground plane, that has pushed itself behind on the site,to accomodate the extended activities in the form of the open crafts fair space. The public spaces extend out, opening the site to the intersection of the roads and the studio spaces stack up above giving way for more privacy, yet keeping the visual connectivity alive.

The Introvert - Extrovert House
A Courtyard house in India | Role: Documentation work and representation | Status: Built | Type: Private residence (2019) | Firm: S + A Architects , Belgaum
The introvert - extrovert house is based on the idea where the entire house opens into the private central courtyard while the public spaces spill out to the large expanse of the green outside. The principle driver of the design is limitations on the site due to vastu. Inspite of a big site of 80’ x 83’, the site hitting the road in the front brought about vastu restrictions limiting the built up area to 32’ x 64’. This gave way to the grand foreground.

Earth Architecture
Mud Architecture documentation competition entry | Role: Analysis, Hand Drafting | Status: Built | Louis I kahn Documentation Trophy (2012) entry, Team entry | Type: Settlement | Location: Chachadi, India.
The 55th Annual NASA convention LIK Trophy brief focused on choosing, analysing and documenting a specific site, where unique and diverse relationships of earth and architecture in the country was the prime focus. The whole documentation was supposed to be hand drafted and presented. The site chosen by us was a mud settlement that grew from 12th century and is still growing in the same fashion in the present time. The process began from tracing the rich history of the site and undertstanding the different aspects of it. We documented the whole settlement in different chunks. The main chunk being the “wada or the main complex of the desai (king)” enclosed within a fort wall and as the city grew, houses were constructed around it and we could see two more walls that enclosed the settlement eventually for various reasons. Shown in the sheets are the scanned pictures of the parts of documention sheets done by us.

Technical drawings
Some drawings done in the professional setting. | Status: Built | Technoarchitecture.Inc,2016 | Type: Residential | Location: Bangalore, India.
Presented here are two different drawing examples that I did during my internship, back in India, in 2016. The drawings belong to a residential project, detailing the terrace setting design and a compund wall design. This was the time I learnt the importance of detailing and conveying our ideas through drawings. I also got a chance to see these designs come to life, during my time there.

Black ink Sketching
Personal interest sketches | Medium: Black ink pen.
Sketching is a form of documentation to register and learn things for me. It has always been one of the tools I use in my design process. It helps me liberate my creative energy, eliminate details and capture the essence of the things. Here, I have showcased a few live sketches from my sketchbook.
