NEW YORK, MANHATTAN

How we engage in our daily affairs sets the tempo for a communities involvement. Collectively, we accumulate a wide range of fascination that help guide us into a Culture of expression. For this project, my focus was particularly aimed toward the usability of the Manhattan site in relation to shared communal spaces distributed about the parameter of our New York location.

36TH STREET

My curiosity initiated from the places that interested the community the most. Tracking pedestrian patterns and habits as well as the connection to the amount of commerce and vehicle transportation developed within the city communicate its specific spatial density and congestion.

Front approaching perspective directed toward the central axis and gardening area between the two building structures that compose the platform.

Observing the city with a wide point of view, majority areas are confinde to densily populated areas. Whether crowded street corners, or packed public venues, all only served similar mundane experiences for the community. My proposal implements a unique design for the citizens of Manhattan to interact for a more pleasurable experience. This project isolates differing scenic spaces the users can naturally enjoy.

Massing

Program split into three components of massing in order to create a platform and plaza for the public to interact with nature within the built environment.

Spaces in between three masses help to promote a path for movement and circulation to create a more lively experience. Program now more accessible and a central pathway of horizontal circulation is created.

2021. Incorporated push back to building components South facing exterior. Creates a larger plaza space more accessible to incoming members.

Illustrates the building program. Seclusion spaces aligned to the blue perimeter due to a more private location near residential area. Tranquility space positioned between intermdiate space. Rehabilitation space postioned in red to direct more interaction near highways.

Expansion in between the three masses allows passage way through buildings aligned to central ports of connected programs.

Design Concept

Housing Unit

The objective of this particular project was to design an interior space specific to an ideal user around downtown Champain. My ideal user exhibited characteristics to that of an avid gardener and grower. Around mid 20’s to late 30’s. Ideally for either male or female sex. Their habits include Conservative in surroundings and quite adaptive to nature with interests about exploration.

Design Details

Housing Unit

Throughout the design process for creating a livable environment for the gardener, incorporating green wall and green screens became the intended objective. Vertical farming created a way to combine biophilia and natural elements inside the living space to reveal the concept of connecting with nature, and bringing in the ouside environment

Natural lighting is an important necessity for the plants. Initially, light was presumed to come forth from the four rightside windows. However, that particular direction faces North, contrary to the South direction. Finding a solution to gain direct lighting I incorporated Skylights through the ceiling to recieve more sufficient lighting for the interior.

2nd Level Perspective

The Kiosks themselves serves as a self- sustaining placement for biophilia and other natural elements to help produce, cultivate and develope about it’s connecting regions.

2021.

Additionally, it helps to serve the good of the community with the knowledge, tools and resources of Agriculture to further enhance their environment.

The design of this project was to establish a linking network of Agricultural Kiosks spread throughout the city of Chicago, IL.

These projects assist and help educate as many supporters of their own community as possibly to the advancement of agricultural sustainability.

The project branches from the project Urban Agricultural Plant Center, stationed at Dearborn Station, on W Polk street and Dearborn street in Chicago.

Integrated Photovoltaic Glass Panels

Purpose to generate electricity for on-site use to both corner angles of Kiosk Facade. It’s specifically positioned in the East and West directions for utilizing maximum Direct Solar Energy.

2021.

Throughout the duration of the day the Kiosk would receive evenly distributed amounts of sunlight, from Sunrise to Sunset. BIPV Systems can provide savings in materials, electricity costs, reduce pollution. Self- sufficient BIPV System to generate Electricity.

Exterior Diagram Perspective The project encompasses the goal of recieving direct solar radiation in both summer and winter seasonal changes. This theme grants the concept of angling the glass facade in a direction that allows light to pass in the summer solstice for the upper half of the angle at 75 Degrees Altitude and filter lighting along the lower half of the glazing for plants along the seal of the interior. Vise versa for Winter Equinox having a lower altitude angle at 25 degrees. Plants would grow continously year round in a cylcling effect of different shading.
