Reasons Why Your Check Engine Light Can Be On

So, your MINI’s check engine light has come on…

• That's more than enough reason for anyone to go crazy.

But, if you're concerned about the well-being of your engine…. please don't.

Check engine light does not necessarily mean there is a problem with the engine.

In addition to an engine problem, the check engine light can illuminate due to;

Reason #1- Problem with EVAP

EVAP stands for Evaporative Emission Control system.

It is a fairly complex unit made up of numerous parts including the gas cap.

If any of its parts malfunction, the check engine light will come on.

Reason #2Defective sensor

Modern cars, including your Mini, are equipped with many sensors.

Some of these sensors help the ECU to regulate engine operation.

A fault in any of these sensors can cause the check engine light to light up.

Reason #3- Problem with the exhaust

One possible explanation for the CEL illumination in a car is the exhaust system fault.

Catalytic converter- for example- if goes bad, the CEL may come on.

Reason #4Transmission has flaws

• A transmission that is running low on lube or has a faulty part may activate the CEL.

No matter how odd it may sound… but, it's true.

Reason #5- Defective engine control module

The

ECU monitors and regulates different parameters of engine operation.

If there is a flaw in a part of such importance, the CEL will come on.
