In the riverside communities, the lack of basic sanitation and untreated water consumption causes various diseases such as: cholera, hepatitis A, leptospirosis.. etc. Untreated water contaminated by waste , human and animals feces, cause innumerable problems in adults and children, the microorganisms present in the contaminated water gets in contact with the population through the skin during the shower, while preparing the meals, or even, directly, by water intake from the river.

TREATED WATER: only 58,5 % the amazon's houses are connected to the water supply. The national index is 83,1 %. SEWER - only 9,4% of the houses count with sewage system, while the national index figured 52,5 %. To make the problem even bigger, this index from IBGE (2009) applies for urban areas. The regions where we operate do not have any type of treated water, nor sewage treatment.
