SPECIALTY POLYMERS ARE UP TO YOUR CHALLENGE

Westlake specialty polymers are the right choice for applications with demanding specifications where standard polymer formulations fall short. Our broad selection of ethylene vinyl acetate (Elevate™), ethylene methyl acrylate (EMAC8), and ethylene n-butyl acrylate (EBACe) copolymers range from 2.5% up to 24% modification, which allows for varying degrees of flexibility, clarity, cold temperature impact, polarity and many other attributes depending upon your need. Westlake spciality polymers are up to the challenge of your application. Westlake’s Specialty Polymers business is focused on flexibility and diversification. Through our emphasis on research and development we continue to engineer new resins to meet the demanding needs of today’s and tomorrow’s innovative applications. We offer an extensive line of ethylene acrylate and vinyl acetate copolymers (EVA, EnBA, and

EMA), maleated tie layer resins (TYMAX® GT), lower density PE plastomer’s (MXSTEN® CV) and specialty 0.946 medium density extrusion coating resins. The Specialty Polymers business is constantly growing and we are continuing to expand our portfolio. As the world’s most widely used polymer, polyethylene enables the innovative design and manufacture of countless products – from food packaging and carton liners to dry cleaning bags, impact modifiers, and tie-layer resins. Westlake annually produces 1.5 billion pounds of lowdensity polyethylene (LDPE) and 980 million pounds of linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE). Westlake supplies its own primary raw materials from its ethylene operations.

Why Westlake Specialty Polymers? §§ Broad portfolio of low density and linear low density (LDPE, LLDPE) §§ Market leadership in flexible packaging, extrusion coating and film markets §§ Production flexibility to handle special grades and custom formulations §§ Top-level expertise to assist you with all your sales, customer service, product development and troubleshooting needs §§ Access to our Customer Solutions Center for on-site testing and evaluation

ETHYLENE VINYL ACETATE (EVA) Westlake specializes in ethylene vinyl acetate formulations with vinyl acetate content up to 18%, appropriate for use in thermoplastic extrusion, film compounds and foam molding. With softness and flexibility approaching elastomeric materials, EVA has good clarity and gloss, barrier properties, low-temperature toughness, stress crack resistance and UV resistance.

ACRYLATE COPOLYMERS Westlake’s ethylene methyl and n-butyl acrylate copolymers offer multiple advantages for applications where elastic properties, flexibillty and broad chemical resistance are key. They are highly compatible with a wide variety of other polymers for blending or adhesion to substrates and they offer high filler acceptance. Processing characteristics similar to low density polyethylene make EMAC® and EBAC® easy to use in a variety of extrusion equipment. While EMAC+™ and EBAC+™ are highly compatible and offer excellent adhesion to a variety of substrates, our patented high-pressure reactor technology enhances these performance characteristics for more polymer alloy options. The “plus” technology also makes these copolymers appropriate for applications requiring higher temperature service or greater clarity. Grade

LOW MOLECULAR WEIGHT POLYMERS Westlake Chemical Corporation offers a series of medium to low molecular weight polyethylene or polypropylene polymers under the EPOLENE® trade name. They are useful in the plastics industry as lubricants for PVC, processing aids, mold release agents, dispersion aids, and coupling agents. They are also widely used as base polymers for hotmelt adhesives and pavement-striping compounds as well as petroleum wax modifiers for use in candles, investment casting, cablefilling, and various paperboard coatings. Numerous types of EPOLENE® polymers are available, and properties can be selected to fit various processing operations. Many of these polymers meet U.S. FDA food additive regulations for various applications.

PLASTOMERS Westlake’s patented ENERGXSM technology makes Mxsten® CV plastomers the lowest density gas-phase hexene-based linear low density polyethylene available, with densities as low as 0.906 g/cm3. Mxsten® plastomers meet FDA requirements for food contact and are a preferred resin for flexible food packaging. Their excellent seal strength at low initiation temperatures allows faster line speeds on form, fill and seal machines. For such a low density polymer, Mxsten® CV has unique stiffness properties, making it an ideal choice for stand-up and thermoformed pouches.
