“My alone feels so good, I’ll only have you if you’re sweeter than my solitude.” Warsan Shire is one of the few female poets that capture an almost feminist romance, acknowledging how much men have control over our lives, yet we are able to strive and be independent without them. This counters the average pop songs that claim women are almost broken beyond repair after a heartbreak. Instead of a simple excuse as to why he didn’t stay, Warsan knows that not all men are capable of loving such delicate and intricate beings.

Juergen also has mastered a more candid approach to portraiture with his photographs of celebrities in almost candid moments. When Juergen shoots his subjects it is only the two of them. He uses no assistance, so many of his portraits are very intimate and personal, and sometimes quirky.

Here Is What I Know You drink your coffee black and we are afraid of each other. Once, you kissed my neck in front of your friends and it made me very shy. Once you kissed my stomach and I started crying. I see the tender way you touch things and want to kiss your nose but I keep my mouth to myself. Your collarbones are craters big enough to fit my fist into. You are the most beautiful things I’ve seen in months. I was not good to the last person I loved so I punished my heart (I let it break and bleed out then roughly sewed it back together). It is hard to write poems when I only know how to fuck you. Kennedy Garrett Kennedy Garrett’s goes beautifully with her sisters, but tells an entirely different story. I have followed her work since I first started photographing. She is incredibly talented.
