M I N N EAP O L I S — S A I N T PA UL Minneapolis–Saint Paul is a metropolitan area built around the Mississippi, Minnesota and St. Croix rivers. The area is commonly known as the Twin Cities for its two largest cities, Minneapolis and Saint Paul, the city with the highest population in Minnesota and its state capital, respectively. Despite the Twin moniker, the two cities are independent municipalities with defined borders and are quite distinct from each other. Minneapolis is somewhat younger with modern skyscrapers, while Saint Paul has been likened to a European city with quaint neighborhoods and a vast collection of well preserved late-Victorian architecture.

D E V E LO P M E N T The process of creating a 3-letter mark for the Minneapolis– Saint Paul Airport began with an exploration of fonts and sketches of arrangement possibilities. After bringing that into illustrator, the final typeface arrangement was made from manipulated Didot. I chose Didot because it captured the bold, modern essense of the twin cities.
LETTERMARK
The lettermark is modern, professional and urban. It exudes the unexpected, exciting essence of the Twin Cities. The divergence between letters represents the disconnect between two cities that ultimately belong together.

UNIVERS Univers is a strong and prolific supplementary typeface that supports and emphasizes my mark. The simple sans serif characteristics deliver important information while keeping the attention on the lettermark. Univers carries the modern and professional vibe that the mark creates.

C O LO R S This color scheme captures the young and exciting energy of the Twin Cities. The navy blue and black symbolize the business core that is the foundation of the cities’ success, while the tangerine suggests the young, fast paced, entertained side of life in MSP.
