PART I / SELF PROMO This project focused on finding ways to promote ourselves to the fashion industry and potential employers. As an individual, I designed a logo to represent myself to be used on various materials including business cards, letterheads and a visual CV. I also put together a mood board showing my likes, followed by a photo series displaying five items that are important to me. To make my self-promotion materials more accessible, I created an online portfolio that can easily be sent out to people all over the world, as well as a short moving manifesto to promote myself through a different medium. I also reflected on my summer work experience through two further mood boards.

NEXT PAGE. A SERIES OF LOGO DESIGNS I experimented with a variety of different fonts and designs in order to create the perfect business card to represent me as an industry professional. As I am interested in the photography aspect, I wanted to use some of my own photography within my design. I decided for this to be black and white as it represents a style I frequently use. I tried a number of fonts, however settled for a red logo rather than just text, as this would be make it less recognisable on its own. The red logo will not be printed directly onto the business card but printed as a vinyl sticker to create different textures. Each of the stickers will be attached individually, thereby making each card slightly different.

Inspiration / This issue of skateboard/surfing/culture magazine ‘huck’ inspired me to use a highly contrasted black and white photograph with a red font.
Final design / Black and white photograph with red vinyl sticker of the logo.

NEXT PAGE. ONLINE PORTFOLIO I chose a Tumblr portfolio with a clean and graphic layout. Hovering over each image will reveal a short blurb about each project, which can be read fully by clicking on said image. A more detailed information section will then be revealed including links to written reports or presentations where appropriate, more images and credits. I have also included an ‘About Me’ section, with some information about what I do, linking to social media pages including my FCP Twitter and my Pinterest page. Finally, the left hand navigation also enables potential employers to look at my work experience by clicking on the ‘CV’ button. kjhportfolio.tumblr.com

NEXT PAGE. MOVING MANIFESTO A stop motion film relevant to my self-promotion series. I took inspiration from the blog ‘Things Organised Neatly’, as well as the previous ‘5 Things’ activity we completed. I gathered some of my favourite things and things I believe to represent me such as clothes or jewellery I frequently wear. I turned all photos into black and white and added my red logo at the end to suit the design of my portfolio and design package, as well as layering my favourite song over the top of the images.

PART I / ALL WALKS This project raised the question of WHAT IS BEAUTY and focused on diversity (or lack thereof) in the fashion industry. As a result of this, as part of a team of five, we came up with a series of photographs while considering the kind of publication these would be featured within. After a trip to London, we briefly looked at visual merchandising and the use of space within Selfridge’s, coming up with future ideas for their Bright Young Things collaboration. Set Designers ‘Lord Whitney’ work-shopped with us for two days and helped us create 3D crafts to be used within art direction. As an individual, I submitted work to ‘Diversity Now!’ competition by ‘All Walks Beyond The Catwalk’ in the form of a series of photographs exploring inner beauty.

NEXT TWO PAGES. WHAT IS BEAUTY PHOTO SERIES The three final images that were displayed in the FCP exhibition. Initially inspired by a Dove Beauty campaign and then influenced by Egon Schiele’s life drawing techniques and Jan Masny’s dance photography. A mock-up of a Gentlewoman cover using our photo series follows this.
