In the hospital with her third heart attack and an out-of-control glucose level, Deborah knew she needed to make changes. That’s when she met Mary Lee, a nurse and diabetes educator. Together, they created an individualized plan that’s turning Deborah’s health around.
Tamikqwa keeps smiling. Why? All the women on her care team during her breast cancer journey surrounded her with compassion through diagnosis, tests, surgery, chemo and radiation, and reconstruction. She even met her surgeon, Dr. Brenda, ahead of time.
Most importantly, Mary Lee cares. “She sees my struggle, and she works with me,” Deborah says. “I’m thankful Mary Lee is on my team. We haven’t gotten there yet, but we have a plan and we’re on the way.”
“I don’t need to cry or be woe is me. Because of them, I have not stopped smiling,” Tamikqwa says. “These ladies didn’t just offer me a cup of tea and sympathy, but a new way of living that is beautiful. They make me feel like there is nothing wrong with me. They make me feel like I can do anything!”

As a retired aerospace engineer involved in early computers, Al likes the technology behind electronic medical records and how the information supported by Adrian and the IT team is transforming healthcare. Al’s family appreciates the ease in connecting his care without wondering if they forgot something. “When I go to the doctor, it makes a difference for me because I like that we both know the same things,” Al says. “The last time I had to go to the hospital, we went into Admitting, and we had nothing to do. I just had to sign a form.”
