Commercial Design Specialty Grocery Store Spring 2017

Meta Market San Francisco, California
Meta Market is a grocery store that offers specialty food items with a demonstration kitchen. The project location is South of Market’s newest development Mission Bay. This area has been going through a transformation over the past ten years. The success of many businesses, luxury condos, and the UCSF medical center has brought this neighborhood a new demographic. The client Tony Riviera, is Chairman and CEO of Primo Hospitality Group an international brand focused on culinary development. The store is designed to communicate high quality products, a classic style, be approachable and affordable. Riviera specifically requested a “light, bright, natural, casual, and simple design.”

Concept Development The revitalization of the neighborhood has inspired a concept taken from the life-cycle of a butterfly. Metamorphosis reflects how the neighborhood has gone through its own transformation. The design of Meta Market begins with an intimate restaurant that opens into a large grocery store that has exposed walls and ceilings.

Natural Colors Materials: concrete, wood, tile, and metal Lighting: recessed suspended grid, pendent, and high bay lighting Co-op design: vendors, retail, and groceries Demographic: working individuals serving multiple needs: fast on the go meals
Material Analysis Design: variety of materials used including: wood, tile, concrete, and metal. Wall treatments included wood and tile. Function: The health department requires prepared food areas to have light color tile on the floors and walls. Acoustics: outside noise was not noticeable. It was a little noisy from all the different functions happening in one place. For example: a blender, chopping, people chatting and music could be heard from where I was sitting. Overall impact of materials help direct customers to each area. Concrete was the main flooring material and white tile surrounded the prepared foods. Transition of materials in prepared food area

Restaurant & Coffee Shop The Meta Market restaurant features a full service kitchen, private entry, and bathroom. The restaurant design highlights a floated dropped ceiling to enhance the natural light through the glass facade. Adjacent to the restaurant, is a coffee bar with a service window that reaches customers outside and on the go. The wall finishes are a sustainable product from 3Form.

Residential Design 3 Unit Condominium Fall 2016
33
Mariotto Residence 13 Wood Street San Francisco, California 94118
The Mariotto family property consist of a three-story residential condominium building. There are a total of three separate units. The Mariotto family built the residence in 1955. The property is located in Laural Heights Village of San Francisco. Mariotto is a three generation extended family who reside in the second and third floor units. The family would like to update there space and add new features to fit the family needs. The challenge to this project was to design a space that will accommodate an aging grandparent and a child with special needs.
Residential Design Fall 2016
34
Concept Development Concept Development Ascending Mist During my first visit to the Mariotto property it was a foggy, cold, and windy morning. I was immediately inspired by the warm colors and crisp air. The outside environment will come into the space using the variations of color pallets created by mist. Beginning with the first floor as the sunrise, second floor mid day mist, and the third floor as a sunset mist. The first floor unit is designed using a warm pallet inspired by the morning fog moving through mountains as the sun rises. The pallet is drawn from the cinnamon color of the desert mountains in contrast with the dark shadows over the water. The second floor unit is inspired by the mist that appears between the forest trees. The family that lives in this unit enjoys hunting an being outdoors. Vibrant colors are used to create a harmony for the youthful girls and their father. The third floor unit is inspired by the mist of a winter sunset.
