Greeting cards are vital in nurturing relationships, especially when distance lies between loved ones. They capture the profound emotions that words alone may not express — celebrating milestones, offering comfort in tough times, and conveying gratitude. A handwritten note inside a card adds a personal touch, demonstrating care that automated messages cannot replicate.
In our screen-saturated lives, receiving a card is a refreshing experience that invites us to pause and reflect on heartfelt sentiments. These cards often become cherished keepsakes, embodying memories and love. They encourage creativity and selfexpression, allowing the sender’s personality to shine through.
Ultimately, greeting cards remind us of the essential nature of sincere communication. They counter the fleeting exchanges of modern life, providing enduring symbols of love, friendship, and thoughtfulness in an increasingly impersonal world.
Alexander Girard was one of the most influential textile artists and interior designers of the twentieth century. He created worlds of colourful opulence in which everything was precisely and artfully coordinated, from the smallest details to the big picture.

Born in 1907 in New York City, Alexander Girard was one of the leading figures of post-war American design. Trained as an architect but proficient in nearly all design disciplines, he would spend his long and prolific career working in the fields of furniture, exhibition, interior and graphic design. In addition, he was head of the textile division at the prestigious American furniture company Herman Miller for over 20 years. During his tenure, he created over 300 textiles, numerous collections of wallpapers, and his Environmental Enrichment Panels, for which he made an iconic set of graphics, both abstract and figurative, that continue to influence the design world of today.
Girard was a designer who stood out from the crowd. He loved to play and push the boundaries. His vibrant use of colour brought new warmth and life to mid-century minimalism, a style often criticized for its lack of sensuality. He injected a burst of colour into the drab post-war era, mirroring the hope and optimism of the time. It is his bold use of colour and his expertise in graphics that still influence us here at Lagom Design. Having worked for the American greeting card company Hallmark on a number of exhibitions, as well as having a practice of creating his own cards for holidays and other occasions, it’s not hard to see how his work translates beautifully into the contemporary world of paper correspondence.

For Girard, design was not just about decoration; it was a means of selfexpression and a tool to craft immersive environments for people to live, work, and play. His upbringing in Italy and extensive travels throughout the world influenced his designs, giving them a broad, global appeal. He blended typography, colour, and his love of folk art to create textiles, furniture, and objects that transformed interior design. One of his most notable achievements was his work on the Latin American-themed restaurant La Fonda del Sol in New York City in 1960. Here, he was able to utilise all of his skills, from designing the architectural layout of the space, which would include many pieces of folk art collected for this project, to the tableware, linens, graphics, textiles and even sugar packets and bathroom faucets. As was often the case, he also brought in his friends and colleagues to collaborate on certain aspects of a project, namely the Eames for new dining chairs and the fashion designer Rudi Gernreich on the staff uniforms. No detail was left unconsidered and the result was a restaurant unlike any other at the time or since.

Girard’s understanding of design went beyond structure and form; he believed it could infuse the world with a sense of creativity unbound by convention or expectation of current trends and fads. His approach was about filling spaces with textures, colours, symbols, and whimsy to create simple beauty. From the home to the corporate office, Girard’s legacy is one of brightness, happiness, and optimism.

Risk-taker par excellence, style maven extraordinaire, her most exhilarating legacy is a design archive making waves around the world today. But this is where her legend begins. Born in 1899 in a remote rural corner of Australia's Queensland, Florence Broadhurst lived a series of vivid, fantastic lives. Her humble beginnings on a cattle ranch did nothing to limit her adventurous spirit and quest for a glamorous life. Each decade, she reinvented herself and could be described as a living work of art. In her 20s, she called herself Miss Bobby, and she performed as a singer and dancer in China and Southeast Asia with the vaudeville troupe The Smart Set. She finished the decade running the Broadhurst Academy, teaching music, voice, and dance in Shanghai.
With every incarnation, Florence became somebody new, with a new hair colour, accent, history, and even, on occasion, name. At the age of 60, she did it again, launching her defining venture in Sydney, an internationally successful luxury hand-printed wallpaper business.
Florence did not limit performance to the stage and became a mistress of reinvention. By the 1930s, she changed her name to Madame Pellier and became a French couturier, dressing the upper echelons of London Society. In her new guise, she returned to Australia as an artist and English aristocrat and drove across the country painting. She was a prolific painter, creating 114 works in two years. With every change of persona, Florence reinvented herself completely, changing her hair colour, accent, and biography. She wore feathers, striking colours and bold jewellery, always well-groomed and elegant. This was a complete and magnificent life, but it was only the beginning.

She created an international luxury wallpaper business in Sydney, Florence Broadhurst Wallpapers, and announced she would colour Australia. In so doing, she re-drew the world. Everywhere she had been and everything she had seen found voice in a whirlwind of creativity. Florence's archive grew to over 500 images ranging from tapestries to geometrics, florals, psychedelic, and delightfully eccentric chinoiserie.
Florence created hand-screen printed wallpapers and textiles, and her designs took the world by storm. They were eclectic, bright, bold, and colourful, reflecting her unique personality and style. From Moroccan architecture to Japanese art, Florence's colourful life experiences fed seamlessly into her groundbreaking designs. Her use of geometric shapes, outsized motifs, and metallic inks blended the traditional with the contemporary. Her patterns were the antidote to dull designs, bold, colourful statements that reflected her flamboyant personality. Red birds of paradise with elaborate feathers, Turmeric yellow Japanese Lotus flowers on a scarlet background, stampeding horses and tiger stripes, there was nothing run of the mill about her creative output. She was also a master innovator, printing onto metallic surfaces and developing a drying rack system to produce wallpapers in larger quantities.
Upon her death, Florence disappeared. Today, thanks to the passion of Signature Design Archive, she is stepping back onto the international stage with designs that transcend fashion, work so boldly glamorous and versatile it speaks to innovators in every field. The woman with the fiery red hair and personality to match will never be forgotten. She left an archive of over 500 designs, and her wallpapers still adorn classic and contemporary homes worldwide. Her work has grown in popularity in recent years, and here at Lagom Design, we can't wait to bring Florence's designs to a new generation. She is a life, an enigma, a legend, and a legacy. Florence Broadhurst, the story is not over yet.

Merchandising Displays
Our card spinners are the perfect way to display our cards. We offer four custom-made display units: a 56 pocket spinner for our regular cards, a 72 or 24 pocket spinner for our mini card collections, and a gift wrap stand which can hold up to 20 designs. The best bit is that we can supply one of each size free of charge (including delivery) when you order enough stock to fill them.
Please Note:
The spinners and gift wrap stands are the property of Lagom Design and should only be used to display our products. We reserve the right to remove the spinner if this condition s breached. If wholesale customers have more than one store or require multiple spinners, we will consider each request on an individual basis. In some cases, we may have to ask for a contribution towards the spinners and the delivery costs involved.

There is no invoicing charge for invoices received as a PDF file by e-mail, or as an EDI document. A fee invoicing charge will be applied to any invoice received by post of GBP 3.
Proforma invoice for the first order, after that a credit period of 30 days from the date of invoice will apply, subject to prior application and approval. An interest charge of 2% of the outstanding invoice value per month or part thereof from the date of invoice will be levied on any accounts remaining unpaid beyond the due date.
