01. CHARLESTON MEDICAL DISTRICT GREENWAY Cha r l e s t o n , SC TA C T I C A L U R B A N IS M
DesignWorks had prepared a masterplan for the Charleston Medical District through which Doughty Street was identified as a high priority to convert to a greenway, improving pedestrian circulation and increasing the amount of green space available to patients, staff and visitors. With limited funds im mediately available and skepticism from one of the institutions it was determined that a cheap, quick, and temporary project demonstrating the benefits of a greenway was the best course of action. Design Works designed the tactical urbanism installation, received approvals from city and state agencies, oversaw construction and coordinated over 100 vol unteers to paint the street. The instituti on with the skepticism is now on board with the project and the property and adjacent lots continues to evolve.

02. MOULTRIE PLAYGROUND Cha r l e s t o n SC PA R K
The renovation of Moultrie Park responded to community members de sires for updates to an existing park and was designed and built in collaboration with the City of Charleston Parks Department, Charleston Parks Conservancy and DesignWorks. The baseball field was no lon ger in use for official games and the playground was located in a dark corner of the park and an existing community center was underutilized. The baseball field fences were removed to allow flexibility of use of the outfield while maintaining the options for practices and pick up games, improvements to the community building’s outdoor gathering space were designed—including food truck parking spaces and electric hook-ups— new playgrounds were proposed closer to the street and fitness stations filled the park. All of the activities were organized around a sidewalk connecting Colonial Lake to the Ashley River, following the path of what was once a creek that led to the water.

04. 01. PEREZ ART MUSEUM MIAMI ArquitectonicaGEO worked in collaboration with Herzog & deMeuron and Patrick Blac to design a lush microcosm surrounding the The Perez Art Museum Miami. Hanging gardens create a cooling microclimate to transition museum visitors from the cool, dry climate-controlled museum interior to Miami’s warm, humid climate while a combination of native and adapted tropical plants provide a lush setting for the building, for visitor gathering, and for exterior art installations. The Perez Art Museum of Miami was recognized by the Florida chapter of ASLA in 2014 with FLASLA’s Award of Excellence and the FLASLA Frederic B. Stresau Award.

Brickell City Centre is a multi-block, multi-use development in the heart of Miami developed by Swire Properties. Working in close collaboration with the architects of Arquitectonica, ArquitectonicaGEO is developing the landscape architecture components of the centre. Concept design began by drawing comparisons between South Florida’s unique ecosystems to each outdoor use of space. The outdoor spaces were then designed to emulate its correspondeing ecosystem through planting palettes and unique spatial properties, transitioning between the spaces with a shifting planting palette just as would be found in nature. This Florida-style home is set in an acre of lush gardens. This garden was featured in ArtPower ’s publication, Scenery & Family Life – Housing Landscape. Undulating along the property, the gardens maintain views from the home to Jupiter ’s Intercoastal Waterway. The planting palette was designed for all senses—with Jasmine, Banana Trees, an herb garden, brilliant magenta bougainvillea and an ass ortment of lush native and adaptive plants. A curvilinear pool is nestled into the garden, capturing the view to water. The patio extends the living room outdoors and onto a carpet of lawn, down to the dock for further outdoor entertaining. The garden transforms the house into a retreat for barefoot living.
