design philosophy As a designer, I seek to create spaces that inspire interaction, exude comfort, and functionally serve the purpose to which they are to be used. I utilize beauty and innovative design techniques to reflect my personaltity the spaces I design. The needs and desires of the client are most important to me and as a designer, the happiness and positive experience a space provides is what drives me to work harder to deliver unique designs to the vibrant world.

women’s active rejuvenation club

Refine is a premiere active rejuvenation club which will fulfill the desires of today’s busy woman in need of a day off. The prototype design can be modeled to fit in any environment, climate, site, or existing building. As the first facility of its kind, the Refine brand combines three familiar services into one original design. In order for women to achieve their fitness goals, the design features a state of the art gym and two classroom facilities where an abundance of classes are offered. The cooking instruction and nutrition consultation spaces provide women with the tools necessary for them to learn how to prepare well-balanced and healthy meals for their families. Spa facilities offer a wide range of luxury treatments, from pedicures to anti-aging light rejuvenation. The goal of this exclusive design is to provide a retreat for the health conscious, energetic woman in her quest to achieve perfect balance between physical and emotional health.

The initial design concept of Refine stemmed from a hexagon. Often symbolic of community, balance, efficiency, and nature, the hexagon is a symmetrical shape that presented a design challenge. Unique tessellations evolved from the preliminary programming. These patterns can be seen throughout the space in a courtyard trellis design, shelving units, and space dividers. shinjuku grand hotel

First Floor Plan

Shinjuku is known for its bustling business district and vibrant night life. The introduction of Shinjuku Grand Hotel provides the city with luxurious accommodations and for both business and leisure. In addition, the Shinjuku Grand Hotel also provides an escape from the hustle of daily life and enriches both the cultural identity of the city and the hotel guests. The designers’ concept was inspired by the form of the Japanese bento box, which has been a staple for the Japanese worker. These boxes are often used to bring lunch to work, similar to the American lunch box. The asymetrical components of these wooden boxes led to many of the forms found throughout The Grand Hotel. Many bento boxes are constructed using thin, delicate woods. This motif is seen most prominently in the lobby’s central woven wall and in living area of the guest suites. Succulents provide a living element and symbolize longevity, and in turn, influenced the hotel’s signature color scheme.

Suspended above the bar is an organic bamboo ceiling reminiscent of tree roots which contrasts the static beams that protrude through the glass bar partition above the sushi bar. Natural and dark wood common to the area are paired with subtle hints of green and textured glass floating walls. The restaurant feels open, yet offers privacy behind the glass walls to accommodate different size parties.

During my study abroad in Cortona, Italy in the summer of 2012, my partner and I were challenged to rebrand a local chocolate store into an internationally recognized retail brand. By utilizing the fashion and retail capitol, Rome, Italy for our case studies, we learned how to successfully develop our small store into something much larger. From the initial brand and product analysis to the logo and packaging design, we worked as graphic designers to create the brand. Our initial case studies inspired our design approach and inventiveness in the space through the creation of product displays and purchases. Bold colors and innovative features highlighted the avant garde aspect that our product would be world renowned for.

Challenged with the task of designing a popup kiosk in only a few short days, the Choko store utilized the rounb cocoa bean shape as their inspiration. Highlighting the brands bold, red color and using similar point of purchase displays, the kiosk serves as a design that could be seen in any public retail space.

he law offices of Lane Linder Callahan T exude the character of the architecture of the “classic city”, Athens, Georgia. Formerly a bike shop, futon retailer, and most recently the interior design studios at University of Georgia, the design of the space incorporates both historical elements and contemporary furnishings which convey an environment of success for this well established firm. By utilizing the classical architecture of the Broad Street building, the design of the Lane Linder Callahan law offices highlights the importance of a simple and functional work environment. Exposed brick and views to the open wooden rafters give an urban vibe to this luxurious office. Both clients and employees recognize the hard work and prestige of the space.

the lab residence The Lab residence is home to Mr. and Mrs. Lab and their son. Mr. and Mrs. Lab are both scientists who have contemporary taste and a love of the outdoors. Mr. Lab is an avid butterfly collector and loves to display his immense collection around the house. Mrs. Lab, who has worked in many challenging environments throughout her career has strong allergies to formaldehyde and mold. Their talented son is a teen piano prodigy who enjoys practicing for his parents and friends during the day. The design challenge was to arrange three rectangular boxes through programming and allocation diagramming. The arrangement of the house evolved into three boxes staggered beside each other, utilizing the open air courtyard in between the two ends. Careful consideration was put into the display spaces for both the butterfly collection and the baby grand piano.
