PART ONE BLOCKPRINTS
The Bear
1
The Bear triptic 11” x 17”
The Bear series 8.5” x 11”
THE BEAR The Bear illustrates a sorrowful bear lost in thought becoming aware of his viewer. The colors and the white space give the bear a certain weight with melancholy tones. Inspiration for The Bear came from a series of images of a bear at a zoo, who slowly sat up to look as his picture was taken and then slowly rolled over to continue his monotonous day of napping. Ghost Bear is a twist on the idea of a forgotten past and a lost freedom of spirit. These prints capture that moment of awareness and explore different colors that represent the life of this bear.
No Words

No Words artist proof 11” x 17”
No Words original print 11 x 17
NO WORDS No Words is an illustration inspired by the depths of psychology and the power of words. The style of the print was inspired by Art Neuveau styles that celebrate the beauty of nature and organic shapes. It expresses a moment when the mind is full of hope, inspiration, and passion. The flowers coming from the eyes represent hope, creativity, and breaking through the barrier between reality and thought. The concept behind this illustration is very emotional, but hopeful and is an encouragement to explore the imagination and find beauty there.
Drift
3
Drift original print 8.5” x 11”
DRIFT The design direction for Drift was to make a portrait relief print. A drawing of a person can be more honest to their nature than words. The illustration describes the person in a candid way. This model’s personality can be described in a matter of elegant line work and a shy composition.
The Captain

The Captain artist proof 11” x 17”
The Captain artist proof 11 x 17
THE CAPTAIN The Captain was a design for a T-shirt, which required a visually appealing and unique image. Inspiration was gathered from antique images of ship captains and other nautical imagery. The idea of an ornery sea captain along with decorative sealife china were combined to create this illustration.
Garden in the Clouds

Garden in the Clouds original print 4’ x 4’
Above the Treeline artist proof 3 x 5
GARDEN IN THE CLOUDS Garden in the Clouds came from many things that all relate back to personal experiences in Colorado. Out of breath and looking down over an entire valley and mountain range, there is a great satisfaction that comes with reaching the top of a fourteen thousand foot mountain peak. On the way to the top beautiful mountain flowers can be seen growing amongst rocks and frost. The birds featured in the original illustration are magpies, which can be seen all over Colorado and represent the vast untouched wilderness.
PART TWO PAINTINGS
Sleep
6
Sleep 8.5” x 11”
SLEEP Sleep is a portrait of Hypnos, the god of sleep in Greek mythology. Hypnos was known for his association with poppies and smoke. He is portrayed as a child to show an innocent neutral position as his powers were neither good nor evil. In the illustration he has caused a snow leopard to fall asleep. This is a representation of his power to befall sleep on any individual no matter how strong, as in mythology he causes Zeus to fall asleep.
Old Blue
7
Old Blue 11” x 17”
OLD BLUE Old Blue is an editorial illustration for an article on the Haven Horse Ranch, which is an organization that allows underpriveledged and disabled children to experience caring for and riding horses. The illustration represents the social and emotional connections that can be made through animals. The blue horse expresses the gentle nature of that animal and the warmer colors express compassion. There is a different kind of kindness that can be brought out when caring for animals. The Haven Horse Ranch provides an opportunity for children to learn compassion towards animals.
Hummingbird
8
Hummingbird 11” x 17”
HUMMINGBIRD Hummingbird is an homage to Molly Ringwald. Surrounded by pastel florals and hummingbirds, she is anything but soft. The bright color and bold detail of her hair brings out the strength that can be seen in some of her most popular films. Molly Ringwald has been inspiring young women since the 1980s as a strong and talented female actress.
One Cool Friend
9
One Cool Friend 11” x 14”
ONE COOL FRIEND One Cool Friend written by Toni Buzzeo is a children’s book about a boy who befriends a penguin. The illustration was meant to portray a very serious and grown-up little boy, as he is described in the book, but in a sophisticated style.
