In their inaugural season, Florida Tech’s football program earned a victory in the first-ever ECAC Futures Bowl Game. At FIT, he oversaw the development of FloridaTechSports.com and was one of the official statisticians for football. Under his watch, men’s basketball redshirt sophomore Corbin Jackson was featured on ESPN’s Sportscenter’s Top 10 Plays on Jan. 7 after dunking over a defender. The play ranked No. 4 on the 1 a.m. ET live edition of the telecast. Prior to working in the Panthers’ athletic communications office, Queliz was the assistant athletic director for sports information at the City College of New York. Overseeing the daily operations of CCNY athletics, he redesigned the CCNYAthletics.com website in Jan. 2013 and headed a promotional campaign for United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Atlantic Region Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year Thierry Diessongo. 2014-15 @TAMUKWBB Media Guide The 2014-15 women’s basketball season is upon us as Texas A&M University-Kingsville looks to improve on an 11win season with new head coach Wade Scott at the helm of the program. The Javelinas start the season with three games in a six-day span, beginning at Texas A&M International University on Monday, Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. at the TAMIU Convocation and Recreation Center. After visiting Laredo, the Hogs will host the Dustdevils in their home opener on Saturday, Nov. 22 at 2 p.m. at the Gil H. Steinke Physical Education Center-Kingsville Hampton Inn Court. After earning the season sweep last year, Texas A&M-Kingsville holds the all-time edge, 8-5, over TAMIU. Texas A&M International received seven votes in the USA Today Coaches Top 25 Poll after finishing the 2013-14 season 19-9 overall and 15-5 in Heartland Conference play. The Dustdevils appeared in the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Tournament last season. “This game is going to be a good early test for us,” said Scott. “TAMIU won the Heartland Conference last season, so we are going to see early on what we are made of. I expect us to compete at a high level on both ends.” Sandwiched between the home-and-home series versus Texas A&M International is a nonconference tilt at NCAA Division I program University of Texas-Pan American. The Western Athletic Conference program has had a longstanding history with the Javelinas, with TAMUK dominating the all-time series, 27-6. The Blue and Gold defeated the Broncs in its inaugural basketball contest back in 1977 and earned a victory in the first 21 meetings against UTPA. The Broncs are 1-2 on the year after earning a seasonopening 61-59 win over the University of New Mexico on Nov. 14. Playing its second and third games of the season in as many days, UTPA fell to No. 18 DePaul University, 9370, and No. 5 Texas A&M University, 63-61, on Nov. 15 and Nov. 16, respectively. Returning for her junior season is All-Lone Star Conference honorable mention guard Ashley Viera. The junior finished second on the Javelinas in scoring with 10.8 points/game. She added 3.1 assists per game and averaged 1.5 threepointers per contest. Viera ranked eighth in the LSC with a 1.2-to-1 assist to turnover ratio. Also returning are starters Lauren Jay (7.5 ppg, 4.4 rebounds), Tonje Milde (14 starts) and Ruby Robertson (6.6 points). Joining the veteran group of projected starters is McClennan Community College transfer Kyra Bauer. TAMUK welcomes St. Mary’s University on Nov. 25 at 6 p.m. for its final home game in November before heading on a four-game, three-state road trip, Henderson State University (Nov. 28), Southeastern Oklahoma State University (Nov. 30), NCAA Division I program Stephen F. Austin University (Dec. 2) and its second contest versus St. Mary’s (Dec. 4). /JavelinaWBB

Texas A&M-Kingsville hosts St. Edward’s University in its lone home contest in December (13th at 5 p.m.) before concluding the 2014 portion of its schedule in Alaska against Anchorage (Dec. 19) and Fairbanks (Dec. 20). The Javelinas turn the calendar and ring in the new year with home slates versus Our Lady of the Lake University and Lone Star Conference opponents Texas Woman’s University (Jan. 7) and A&M-Commerce (Jan. 8) before back-to-back road contests at Tarleton State (Jan. 10) and Eastern New Mexico University (Jan. 14). A crucial portion of the schedule follows, as the Javelinas clash with five LSC opponents over a three-week stretch. Four of the games in that span will be held on Kingsville Hampton Inn Court. Following a rematch with West Texas A&M University on the road (Feb. 7) and A&M-Commerce (Feb. 12), the Javelinas will play in front of their home crowd on Valentine’s Day against Tarleton State at 6 p.m. TAMUK welcomes conference foe Cameron University for a mid-week contest (Feb. 18) before wrapping up the regular season with road tests at Midwestern State University (Feb. 21) and Angelo State University (Feb. 28). Allen, Texas will be the host city for the 2015 LSC Championship. The single-elimination tourney begins on March 4, with a champion crowned on March 7. The NCAA Division II Tournament tips off on March 13, concluding with the National Championship Game slated for March 28 at the Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana.

Long known as a leader in intercollegiate athletics, the Lone Star Conference (LSC) is an innovative athletics conference that aims to provide a superior competitive experience for member institutions and to allow for comprehensive development of student-athletes through academic services and life skills programming. The LSC continues to build upon its proud history while intending to be recognized as the premier NCAA Division II conference in the nation. The league’s mission is to provide comprehensive student-athlete experiences in high-level athletic competition, with particular dedication to student-athlete development, graduation success, sportsmanship, ethical conduct, community engagement, and expanding opportunities. The LSC - founded on April 25, 1931 - has developed from a five-team conference of Texasbased schools to a nine-member league that spans three states (Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico). The league continues to assist its member institutions in the maintenance of intercollegiate athletic programs that are compatible with the highest standards of education and competitive sports. Throughout the league’s 83-year history, various institutions have competed under the LSC banner. Today, only Texas A&M University-Commerce (then East Texas State) remains from the original group that was formed in 1931 when North Texas State, Southwest Texas State, Sam Houston State and Stephen F. Austin withdrew from the old Texas Intercollegiate Athletic Association. The membership alignment has changed over the years, with current members having been added from 1954 to 1995. Texas A&M-Kingsville (formerly Texas A&I) joined in 1954, and Angelo State in 1968. Conference membership remained within the Texas borders until 1984 when Eastern New Mexico was admitted. Since then, the LSC has included members from Arkansas and Oklahoma. Cameron (1988, 1996) was added near the outset of an expansion phase, while Texas Woman’s (1989) and previous members West Texas A&M (1986, 1993) and Tarleton State (1968, 1994) joined the league soon after. Midwestern State was admitted early in 1995, while Harding reconnected with the league as an affiliate member in track and field in 2013. In 2014, McMurry returned as an affiliate member in indoor and outdoor track and field, and football. While the LSC has maintained a long-standing tradition of competitive athletic programs for its members, many teams and individuals have gone on to distinguish themselves on the national stage. Entering 2014-15, LSC member institutions have collected 75 NCAA national championships since the league joined the Division II membership in 1982. West Texas A&M supplied the most recent addition to that total by claiming the softball championship this past spring. The LSC conducts conference championships in 16 sports (seven men and nine women). Men’s championships include football, cross country, basketball, baseball, indoor track and field, outdoor track and field and golf. Women’s titles are determined in volleyball, soccer, cross country, basketball, softball, indoor track and field, outdoor track and field, tennis and golf. The conference office is located in Richardson, a northern suburb of Dallas. Jay Poerner serves as the interim commissioner and director for compliance and Melanie Robotham is the assistant commissioner for media relations.
