COLLECTIVE \\ IMPRESSIONS [alsoknownas] Yerba Buena District, San Francisco, CA 2015 “Cities have the capability of providing something for everybody, only because, and only when, they are created by everybody. -Jane Jacobs, Death and Life of Great American Cities This project is a conceptual proposal for a public art installation in an alley in the Yerba Buena Arts District of San Francisco. It combines a material which turns from light to dark when wet, allowing the streetscape to act as a blank canvas, where textured shoe soles, bike tire treads, and animap paws paint an ephemeral portrait of the urban corridor. (interFACE) is an experiment in participatory urbanism, demonstrating the ability of a visually stunning sculptural intervention to instigate public participation through urban exploration and to erode the social boundaries between different neighborhoods by pulling tourists and locals alike outside of their habitual socio-geographical bubbles. The design includes a simple app to accompany the installation creating a city-wide scavenger hunt where participants visit each of the featured locations to check into the app via geo-location to earn fun prizes.

2013

A speculative exploration in dealing with the inevitable sea level rise on the SF waterfront. The proposal is grounded in repurposing Building 12 of Pier 70 as a dynamic public space that weaves its way in and out of old and new structures, highlighting the architectural vestiges of the existing trusses, window frames, columns, and light fixtures as a rich composition of points, lines, planes, and volumes .

THE NIGHT CLUB Mesh Design Build Studio Albany, CA 2011 - 2013 [ alsoknownas ] artist(s) involved: Kelvin Huang In collaboration with: Mesh Design Build Studio David Brown, Ferdilyn Ramirez, Jamie Copprell

This project is a multi-use playhouse, tire swing, chicken coop, and chicken run structure where MeshDBS experimented with found materials and alternative construction techniques. Kelvin was involved from first conceptual design phases to design prototyping, 1:1 mockups, and final construction.

SCHINDLER UNIFIED CITY Neri&Hu Design and Research Office Jiading, Shanghai, China 2013 - 2014 // ONGOING [ alsoknownas ] artist(s) involved: Kelvin Huang In collaboration with: Neri&Hu Design and Research Office Architect in Charge: Lyndon Neri Design Team: Begona Sebastian, Nellie Yang, Lina Lee, Kelvin Huang, Evan Chen, Goncalo Lopes, Tony Schonhardt, Neri&Hu Rendering Team

The Schindler Unified City is a vision for an architecturally unified complex that houses factories, offices, showrooms, research & development, and a 200-meter tall elevator testing tower. Kelvin was involved in the design of the front circulation channel where he employed a series of spatial compressions and decompressions, volumetric carves, skylights, brick textures and screens, and inner gardens to create moments of respite and wonder along the otherwise rather monotonous space. He was also responsible for designing the facade brick

texture/

screen details, as well as coordinating the construction of a life size mockup with the proposed classic Chinese grey brick.

SOCIALIGHT COMPETITION Summer 2013

[ alsoknownas ] artist(s) involved: Alexander Davies In collaboration with: Jenny Zhu Vincent Le

This proposal envisions the next evolution of digital integration: where data is no longer confined within the medium of a cell phone but is instead brought into spatial relevance through a dia-grid of lights across the city. These lights, upon activation, guide it’s users to their desired location - freeing up the user for greater awareness of their surroundings and civic engagement. This system both feeds and organizes activity - making the space and events more legible for all.

KAISER 2200 0’FARRELL TEF Architecture and Interior Design San Francisco, CA 2015 - Present [ alsoknownas ] artist(s) involved: Alex Davies

In collaboration with: CREO Landscape

Upon the demolition of a medical office building, Kaiser asked TEF to envision potential uses for the vacant site before the construction of a new hospital in fifteen years time. This proposal incorporates varying levels of public access to provide landscape, seating, exercise, and a farmers market.

section C 1 : 100

This project called for the activation of an underused plaza in Copenhagen with the addition of a Cycling Embassy, a multi-use space providing bicycle rental, repair, and exhibition. To encourage pedestrian activity, the design was first approached from an urban design perspective, generating a furniture module that scaled up to incorporate exhibition and occupiable spaces. Furniture creates architecture.
