KEY INGREDIENTS Velian Complex In 2006, in the hills of Umbria – not far from our plant - we converted 20 hectares of land to organic farming. This is how we started a long and intense period of experimentation with the plants in our “open-air laboratory”, a research activity that still goes on today and has led us to achieve unprecedented results for cosmetics. After a long period of studies, we selected four plants for their emollient and soothing properties. These plants, native to the area, hardy and resistant, do not need a lot of water and are grown in accordance with organic farming techniques in our Kemon Open Lab. Velian Complex is the result of a combination of: • Mullein (Verbascum densiflorum): with soothing powers • Helichrysum (Helichrysum italicum): with calming and refreshing powers • Flax (Linum usitatissimum): with protective and emollient powers • Dyer’s Chamomile (Anthemis tinctoria): with antioxidant powers The result is a patented blend of plant extracts, the fruit of extensive scientific research conducted by Kemon in collaboration with Vivacell Biotechnology (Denzlingen, Germany) and the University of Ferrara. Lunex System has been enriched with this very important ingredient to boost the protective action throughout the entire bleaching process.

The patent Scientific studies have demonstrated that “specific blends of extracts of mullein, helichrysum, flax and dyer’s chamomile, produced using plants grown in accordance with organic farming techniques in our Kemon Open Lab, possess noteworthy anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antioxidant characteristics”, and that the patented Velian Complex blend produces an important synergistic effect, with results greater than those expected from the sum of the individual extracts.

Bond Creator Complex The exclusive Bond Creator Complex (BCC)®* is a complex of naturally occurring molecules. Its restorative activity protects hair from the possible side effects of the bleaching process.

Healthy hair A resistant fibre is a characteristic of healthy hair. Keratin bundles are held together by a series of chemical bonds. The most important among these for compact hair are disulfide bonds. The hair is strong and lustrous, that is, in the most suitable condition to receive any kind of treatment. Damaged hair Stress, harsh treatments or other external agents can damage the disulfide bonds and compromise the hair structure: the hair becomes weak, dull and prone to breakage. Most technical services are often not recommended for hair in such conditions.

BCC activity Bond Creator Complex works by restoring the damaged disulfide bonds, rebuilding new ones and strengthening the hair structure.

*BCC is a patent registered in Italy and pending in Europe and the US.

Hydrolysed keratin Strengthens the hair structure, making hair smooth and lustrous, easier to comb and less prone to static electricity. Hydrolysed keratin aims primarily at: • Wrapping the hair with a protective film, making it lustrous and soft to the touch • Repairing the damage caused by previous cosmetic treatments • Hydrating the hair and keeping it healthy

LEVELS OF NCP REMOVAL Many bleaching products on the market purport to lift from 5 to 9 shades, but hairdressing professionals know that no product can achieve an extra light blonde (shade 10) starting from a darkest brown base (shade 2). Why, then, do all brands claim 7, 8 or even 9 shades of lift? The table on the following page helps to answer this question by explaining the difference between colour shades and levels of removal of the natural contributing pigment (NCP). This comprehensively clarifies how every single bleach acts, determining its lightening power. Colour shades range from 1 to 10, while the NCP removal scale comprises 10 levels placed from halfway between shades 4 and 5 and shade 10 in the colour shade scale. As shown in the table, the bottom NCP level blocks are wider than the mid-scale colour shade blocks. This is because at the beginning of the lightening process the bleach mainly acts on the melanin responsible for colour depth. Moving upwards to the lighter shades in the scale, the corresponding NCP level blocks become increasingly narrow until we find 5 NCP levels within 2 colour shades, from 9 (included) to 10. This is due to the fact that in lighter shades the melanin, i.e., pheomelanin, the bleach has to break down is much more concentrated than the other types of melanin and, therefore, more difficult to lift.

LUNEX RESTORE

THE PRODUCT Additive in a micellar solution for use in bleaching, with a restorative and protective effect. It is specifically formulated to act synergistically with the products of the Lunex bleaching system. Size: 500 ml bottle with graduated dosing device

USES AND SERVICES

Mixing

Unscrew the cap from the Lunex Restore bottle and screw in the measuring device with assembled dip tube. Make sure it is tightly fitted to the neck of the bottle. Squeeze the bottle to fill the dosing device with the needed amount of Lunex Restore. Follow the indications provided in the following table to calculate the right amount of Lunex Restore based on the type of bleach used.

Thoroughly mix the bleach and developer until creamy smooth. Lift the cap of the dosing device and pour the measured amount of product into the previously mixed bleach, then blend with a brush until creamy smooth. Proceed to apply. N.B. Calculate the needed amount of Lunex Restore based on the amount of bleach, not the amount of mixture.

Levels of lightening and processing times

Lunex Restore does not affect the lightening power or processing time of the bleach with which it is mixed. Follow the directions of the bleach used.

Mixing

The product is ready to use; no mixing is necessary. Therefore, you can perform the service directly at the workstation in a few simple steps.

Precautions for use

Do not apply the product in direct contact with the scalp. Do not get the section too wet. Do not apply more than twice in a row on each section. Do not use on previously bleached hair. Do not put leftover product back in the bottle after the service.

1. To lighten hair sections following styling. Put on suitable gloves and have the client wear the face shield and colour cape. Identify the hair sections to lighten based on the cut, style or face shape and pour the necessary amount of product into a colour mixing bowl. The amount varies depending on hair length and the number of sections you want to lighten. Dip the Lollipop sponge brush in the product and remove any excess by pressing the sponge against the edge of the bowl to avoid dripping during application. On dry hair, run the sponge brush on the chosen hair section; avoid touching the scalp and prevent the product from dripping during application. Using the flat iron and a comb, activate the lightening effect with repeated quick passes over the section at a temperature not higher than 170°/190°C. For uniform lightening, glide the iron over the section quickly, at an even speed, and proceed without stopping until the section is completely dry. Visually check the result as it instantaneously appears. To achieve more pronounced lightening (no more than two levels) and if the condition of the hair allows it, apply a second time.

Important: the service can be performed on virgin hair or hair that has been coloured with developers up to 20 vol. or, if the hair is in good condition, 30 vol.

1. For hair that looks naturally sun streaked. Apply the mixture on dry hair throughout the entire head. Depending on the lightening intensity, leave in place for 5 to 20 minutes. When the processing time is up, rinse thoroughly, shampoo and proceed to style.

2. To create three-dimensional effects. Streak hair using the chosen product and method (e.g., foil or Sticky Mèches). When the processing time is up, rinse and towel dry thoroughly. Apply the Lunex Light mixture over the entire head directly at the backwash. Leave in place for 5 to 20 minutes depending on the desired degree of lightening. Rinse thoroughly, shampoo and proceed to style.

3. As preparation for the first lightening or super-lightening colour treatment. Distribute the product on the mid-shafts and ends. Leave in place for 20 minutes. Remove the excess product with a fine-tooth comb. Apply the lightening or super-lightening colour treatment on the roots, midshafts and ends. Leave in place for the recommended processing time, then rinse.

4. As a pre-colour treatment to remove stains and demarcation lines. Apply the mixture on dry hair in the areas with colour build-up and demarcation lines. Leave in place for 15 to 20 minutes. 5. To enhance lustre and tone in warm colours (reds, coppers, golds). Apply the mixture on dry hair, distributing it throughout the entire head. Leave in place for 15 to 20 minutes. Massage gently. Remove the excess product with a fine-tooth comb. Without rinsing, apply the chosen colour as normally directed and in accordance with the recommended processing times.

Moreover, Lunex Restore might modify the mixture texture and alter its excellent adherence to hair, which is essential for freehand lightening techniques.

Levels of lightening and processing times The lightening result will depend on the amount of product applied on the section and on the volumes of Uni.Color Oxi used: the higher the product amount and the developer volumes, the lighter the result. The clay-based texture quickly dries on the outside while allowing the lightening action to continue on the inside, thus protecting uncoloured hair from stains and product transfer, and ensuring neat and accurate results as well as ultimate comfort. The lightening action stops when the product hardens on hair, therefore it is important to reach the desired degree of lightening before this occurs, because freehand techniques do not allow the product to be re-applied precisely on previously lightened areas. The lightening action is progressive and needs to be visually checked: once the desired degree of lightening has been reached, proceed to rinse. If it is necessary to lighten more than 2 levels, it is recommended to use Lunex Clay Powder with 30- and 40-vol. Uni.Color Oxi. Lunex Clay Powder is used with 10- and 20-vol. Uni.Color Oxi only for soft, natural-looking lightening effects. The hair condition must always be taken into account because the speed and result of the lightening process may vary - as happens with all bleaching products - depending on hair porosity, degree of sensitisation and type (virgin, colour-

treated, permed or straightened hair).

1. Freehand lightening techniques Start application from the back of the nape, work all the way up to the top of the head and include the front. Identify the hair sections to lighten and apply the product starting at about 1 cm from the roots, gently distribute it on the outer portion of each section with the brush, without pressing. Due to its particular texture, the mixture will firmly adhere to the section surface, without dripping on the hair underneath. The higher the product amount applied, the lighter the result.

Directions for use

The product is ready to use; no mixing is necessary. Therefore, you can perform the service directly at the backwash. Wear suitable protective gloves and distribute the product on damp hair, emulsify and leave in place as needed, then rinse thoroughly.

Processing times

The processing time and hair porosity have an impact on the tone intensity. Consequently, the healthier the hair, the lower the deposit of the purple pigment. The following table shows the indicative processing times.

1. Toning shampoo After any bleaching service or lightening technique with bleach, it may be necessary to tone the hair. In general, this is done with tone-on-tone colours used with low-strength developers. In some cases, Lunex Ice Toner replaces this service to remove yellow tones and achieve very light and luminous results. Lunex Ice Toner is also ideal for maintaining the cool results obtained through classic hair colour services.

Directions for use

The amount of product to use varies based on the length and mass of the hair. Wear suitable protective gloves and apply the product directly on freshly-washed and dried hair. Distribute the colour evenly with a comb and massage the hair to ensure homogeneous application, thus avoiding product build-up that might cause more intense tones. Processing time: 15 minutes. Rinsing: rinse thoroughly without shampooing.

Application base

Lunex Colorful creates bright or pastel tones on bleached or colour-treated hair. The intensity and longevity of the result depend on the hair’s condition: the more porous the hair, the better the penetration of the pigment and the more intense the tone. In addition, results vary from shade to shade and depending on the level of the application base as shown on the colour chart. All Lunex Colorful shades achieve maximum tone expression on hair bleached to level 8-10, with the exception of the Grey shade, for which the ideal application base is level 9, and the Blue shade, whose ideal base is level 10. Intense colours last up to about 10 washes, while pastel colours up to about 2-4 washes (see table). Lunex Colorful becomes less intense with each wash. The residual colour, however, maintains its initial tone without unwanted changes.

COLOUR RANGE

The range consists of 12 shades: 8 intense colours that produce bright, vivid tones; 3 pastel colours that produce softer, more delicate tones; 1 Clear, a neutral base that used in combination with any other Colorful shade modulates and softens the intensity of its tone. The intense shades are all intermixable, as are the pastel shades, making it possible to create unique, personalised looks. The Clear base can be used with any shade or mixture of shades to modulate and soften the tone. The amount to use will depend on the desired result. The colour achieved from the mixture of the shades and Clear base is seen instantly in the bowl and reflects the colour result after application.

Can Lunex Restore be used with every Lunex System product? No. It can only be mixed with Lunex Decap Super, Lunex Ultra Cream and Lunex Ultra Powder. Is Lunex Restore compatible with all types of bleach? Lunex Restore is formulated to work synergistically with the above-mentioned products of the Lunex bleaching system. Can I use Lunex Restore with all developer strengths? Yes. With any Uni.Color Oxi developer from 10 to 40 volumes. What happens if I use an amount of Lunex Restore different than specified? The performance of the product is no longer guaranteed if you add more or less than the amount specified. Is it possible to use the Lunex Restore-bleach mixture on previously bleached hair sections? Yes. After the hair structure and condition has been assessed by a professional. Does the processing time change with Lunex Restore? No. Lunex Restore does not affect the processing time of the bleach with which it is mixed. Follow the directions of the bleach used. Can I tone the hair sections after bleaching them with the help of Lunex Restore? Yes. Just follow the same procedure you would after a normal bleaching service. Can I mix Lunex Restore with Lunex Light? No. Lunex Light provides a very gentle action, and therefore there is no need to add Lunex Restore.

Can I get a section of hair wetter with Lunex Light Fast to achieve greater lightening before passing the flat iron? No. You should just dampen the section and remove any excess product with a comb before passing the flat iron. If in excess, the product could sensitise the hair structure in contact with the flat iron. Is it possible to apply Lunex Light Fast more than once on the same section of hair to achieve a lighter effect? Yes. If the hair is healthy, you can apply the product up to two times and pass the flat iron as appropriate. Is it possible to use Lunex Light Fast on hair that has been coloured with a superlightener using a 40-vol. developer? No. Lunex Light Fast can only be applied on virgin hair or hair that has been coloured with developers up to 20 vol. On a healthy hair structure, it can be applied even if the hair has been coloured with a 30-vol. developer. Why is it not recommended to use Lunex Restore with Lunex Clay Powder? Lunex Restore alters the texture of the mixture, compromising its characteristic adherence to hair. The lightening result would therefore be affected. Lunex Clay Powder is already enriched with Bond Creator Complex (BCC). Is it recommended to use Lunex Clay Powder for on-scalp bleaching? No. The ideal product for on-scalp bleaching is Lunex Ultra Cream. Is it recommended to use Lunex Clay Powder with foil or other tools? No. Its texture would make application difficult. The ideal products for lightening hair with foil or other tools are Lunex Decap Super and Lunex Ultra Powder. How many levels of lightening can I achieve with Lunex Decap Super? The balanced formulation with cosmetic oils mixed with 10-, 20-, 30-, and 40-vol. Uni.Color Oxi allows you to achieve up to 6 levels of lightening in a maximum of 60 minutes without a heat source.

Can I use Lunex Decap Super to remove a cosmetic hair colour? Yes. Lunex Decap Super is ideal for removing cosmetic hair colours. How many levels of lightening can I achieve with Lunex Ultra Powder? Lunex Ultra Powder, mixed with 30- or 40-vol. Uni.Color Oxi developer, allows you to achieve up to 9 levels of lightening in a maximum of 60 minutes without a heat source. What are the main differences between Lunex Decap Super and Lunex Ultra Powder? Lunex Decap Super is indicated for quick hair lightening up to 6 levels, while Lunex Ultra Powder is ideal for ultra-light results with up to 9 levels of lift. Its action is progressive with no lightening peaks. Which developer strengths can be used with Lunex Ultra Cream? For on-scalp bleaching it is recommended to use 10- and 20-vol. Uni.Color Oxi at a ratio of 1:1 or 1:1.5. For streaking techniques 10-, 20-, 30- and 40-vol. Uni.Color Oxi can be used at a ratio of 1:1 or 1:1.5. Can I mix Lunex Ultra Cream without weighing it? No. To properly use the product, always use a scale and follow the recommended mixing ratios. Can I mix Lunex Ultra Cream with super-lighteners? No. The bleaching action would act on the artificial pigments as well, neutralising their effect. Can I use Lunex Ultra Cream for cosmetic hair colour removal? Yes. Bleaches generally tend to dry faster on colour-treated hair. On the contrary, the creamy texture of Lunex Ultra Cream does not dry or cake and is therefore excellent for this type of service. Is it possible to apply Lunex Ice Toner on level 7 bleached hair with orange tones? Yes. A subtle result will be obtained by leaving the shampoo in place for more than 5 minutes. Is it possible to darken natural grey/white hair with Lunex Ice Toner by extending the processing time? No. The deposit of the purple pigment contained in Lunex Ice Toner only allows the

removal of yellow tones.

Can I mix Lunex Colorful with bleaching products? No. The product is formulated to be directly applied on hair. How long does Lunex Colorful last? Its longevity depends both on the shade used and on the hair structure in terms of porosity and sensitivity. Intense shades last up to about 10 washes, while pastel shades up to about 2-4 washes (see table on page 49). Does Lunex Colorful cover grey hair? No. The product is not formulated to cover grey hair. Can Lunex Colorful be mixed with Uni.Color Oxi? No. Direct hair colours do not require oxidation. Is it possible to intermix Lunex Colorful shades? Yes. We recommend intermixing between intense shades and between pastel shades; all shades, however, can be mixed with the Clear base. Is it possible to mix intense shades with pastel shades? Yes. It is possible to mix intense shades with pastel shades. Since intense shades are dominant, however, they should be added in small amounts depending on the target colour. Is it possible to mix Lunex Colorful with oxidative hair colours to intensify their tone? No. These are two completely different products and cannot be mixed together. Can I shampoo the hair after rinsing Lunex Colorful? No. Just rinse the hair thoroughly. Can I apply a conditioner after rinsing Lunex Colorful? No. There is no need because Lunex Colorful provides excellent conditioning activity. Is it possible to apply Lunex Colorful on colour-treated hair? Yes. It is possible to apply Lunex Colorful on colour-treated hair. To achieve the maximum tone expression, refer to the table on page 49.
