I’m an Architecture professional with 8 years of experience in design, with a passion for implementing creative bioclimatic solutions to fit the client’s needs. I have been a team member and lead designer for numerous local and international projects, such as k-12 schools, high-end custom homes, low-cost social housing, a community center and most notably a 250,000-sq. ft. proposal for a private health care center. I previously formed part of a small design firm consisting of young professionals with a commitment to a sustainable practice from start to finish. My diverse experience in various design typologies has challenged and provided me a steady growth in the field. Also, working on numerous projects -different in nature and professional demands-, has given me the capacity to carry a project throughout all phases, phases, from conception to construction drawings and everything within the design spectrum.

The client’s needs were to design two separate houses in the same lot, the second serving as a house for the in-laws. The two houses are arranged around a Saman (Albizia saman) tree that exists in the site which is now the main yard that connects both houses. The yard has a surface covered in concrete / grass pavements covered with a wood and galvanized aluminum frame screen that provides privacy from the outside street.

The project is located within a private gated community in an upper middle class neighborhood of Santiago de los Caballeros in the Dominican Republic. The materials chosen for this project were previously selected by the community’s administrative council.

The main house consists of three rectangular volumes: the first contains the main living / dining spaces, second volume contains the kitchen, garage and general services and lastly the final volume, that houses the master bedroom in the main floor along with its own private
yard. The second floor has an open space study and two bedrooms sharing a bath. The second house is a simple rectangular structure with a master bedroom and a secondary guestroom, small kitchen and service area, dining and living room.

Other especial requests integrated into the design were a small integrated herbal garden that also serves as a courtyard for natural light to the kitchen and breakfast
table. The volume that contains the bedrooms has a lockdown gate system made out of wood and galvanized aluminum for extra security during night time.

Naco, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, 2014-2015 Typology Commercial, Restaurant – Boutique Rum Store Firm Independent work Design Kenneth Lopez Project Phase Phase 3: Construction Documents Floor Area 230 sqm | 2,476 sq ft This renovation and interior design project were commissioned by a major Cuban rum company established in the Dominican Republic. Located in one of the best commercial areas in the national district, this project represents the company’s first boutique rum store. The space acquired for the rum store was to be shared with a
Spanish Tapas Bistro, and the project also included a renovation of the Bistro’s interior as well as the entire building’s façade. Both projects were done with a traditional and industrial flare. Both used disposed rum barrel which was integrated into the interior design, furniture and décor.

For the La Romeria, red plays a binding role in the interior space, from the red leather seating area, the louvered door, and bar shelves. The use of Spanish tiles and interior plants softens the red, while the centerpiece,
composed of wrought iron trusses, old recycled rum barrels for shelving and topped with a white marble counter top, makes the strong connection required to the rum store next to it.
Oliver rum’s factory has a lot of elements that I decided to incorporate into this interior: wood, exposed brick, limestone, wrought iron and recycled rum barrels set the theme. The store is organized in a manner that makes it feel like a gentleman’s lounge, with wall spaces for temporal
art expositions, a small seating area, both inside and out is casually displaced to accommodate people that choose to enjoy their rum in the store. Both projects, including the façade renovation for the existing building, will start construction in the first quarter of 2017.

The roof is supported by a series of 22 columns, this roof is in reverse distanced taken from the topography that the structure sits on. Dark wood is mostly used to create a stark contrast with the rolling green hills, and glass facing the north is sandwiched in between the floor slab and ceiling.
The project was originally conceived as a traditional pitched roof structure. The open plan space opens up to the Atlantic Ocean, overlooking from the highest point in the 18-hole golf course. As you enter the lobby from the main entrance, the blue horizon is framed in between columns and the fractal roof. To the left, you’ll find the restaurant, surrounded by a large terrace and exterior sitting area.

The Founder’s beach club is part of a larger project consisting of bungalows, spa, an administrative building. Located on El Limón, Cap el Limón is a spectacular luxury project of great character, contemporary, but with many of the features so admired in green buildings.

The structure is designed to maximize ocean views, adapting it to the existent topography to minimize the impact of the soil, and reduce the wastes. The building with its green roof melts with the hillside, looking like it just emerges from the ground. The design takes advantage of spatial, wind and solar

patterns to maximize ventilation, shade, and daylight. It is surrounded by its own nature reserve, and all the plants proposed for its landscape are endemic or adapted to reduce water use. The infinity pool faces the north facade and blends in with the ocean view.

The school is located in a midsized vacant lot in a small suburban area. The size of the property is meant to use various levels to make suitable outdoor spaces, without exceeding the residential area's 5 story limit. The steep slope in two of the faces of the project is solved by placing gabions as containment of land and dividing the yard into 4 terraces: sports court, playground
with games, a tree covered patio, and a small service area. The courtyard is conceived as an analogy of Spanish colonial patios, to create a private and protected area, forming a central plaza between the buildings. The final phase of the building is over 2,400 square meters of indoor space, 24 classrooms, two laboratories, a library with children's area,
workshops, computer room, cafeteria and fully equipped with a common central space and all necessary service facilities. It also has an outdoor terrace and access to the playground. The rooms in the kindergarten were functionally designed according to the age of the children. The building design is based on a simple geometry easy to read and modulate,
encompassing individual volumes to allow a gradual growth with three construction stages. These levels divide the institution into various sectors: two volumes of classrooms (of different sizes and levels), and an administrative volume that also contains the library and the cafeteria depending on the stage you're in. They are integrated by a multipurpose space of double height flowing between

To take advantage of the local solar trajectory, in this latitude it is always recommended to place buildings in a north-south orientation, thus taking advantage of indirect natural lighting from the north without the excessive heat gain. A building with large windows facing north and few windows to the south uses about 30% less energy than
a building that is not oriented that way. The building’s orientation intends to maximize sunlight and winds from the east and northeast, avoiding the problems of insolation on the south. The recesses are opened to the maximum in the north façade and to a minimum on the south façade to control the direct solar radiation entering the interior spaces,
accompanied by the use of solar protection layer. The material used for the façade allows filtering the light, using a solar shading system made with palm wood and galvanized steel. This allows for a adequate level of interior lighting and prevents glare, while functioning as a safety enclosure and protection against strong winds.

This villa is located in the highest mountain range in the Caribbean, surrounded by tall pine trees and a beautiful view of the island’s northern Cibao Valley. The villa serves as vacation home for a retired couple in their mid50s.

One of the first requirements for this proposal was to design around the existing trees within the site; with this in mind came the idea of working around a courtyard that would bring natural light and ventilation to the villa’s interiors.

As you enter the house, the view of the valley is framed by the courtyard and the terrace. There is a fire pit around which the family can sit; this is where the main recreational gatherings will happen.
The interior spaces are strategically placed for maximum comfort; the bedrooms are located in the northern part of the property to avoid excess heat gain, while the most active spaces are in the southern part. Every space is enveloped
with an extra skin for shading and cooling. Local and vernacular materials are used as a sustainable measure and to cut construction costs. The design encompasses tradition with contemporary design

This community center, which also serves as Ege Haina's local offices for their Windmill farm, meets the demands of the community of Juancho, which concentrates a large number of people living under the poverty line. It represents a way to give its citizens a place of their own to improve the life

conditions of this disadvantaged population. The first phase of the project has about 500 square meters of construction, and includes an administration block, a community market, workshop spaces and conference room for 80 people, exhibition areas, playgrounds, a gazebo, a block of restrooms that
may be used by the wider community and recreational gardens to promote the diversity of native and endemic species. The second phase includes a library, an interactive exhibit hall, a butterfly sanctuary, an additional block of restrooms, and meeting/exhibition areas.

This center has a fully bioclimatic design to minimize the impact on the environment; orientation and distribution were intended to maximize natural light, breezes, views, and nature. It has a parking area for individual
vehicles and buses. The architecture is a tribute to the Dominican Rural Building, has a warmly accessible style that invites the passersby to go in, and discovers the wonders of the southern regions of the island.

A sustainable hospital aims to address, diagnose and treat patients through the use of smart technologies, greater respect for natural resources and application of renewable and selfsustaining practices. In other words, to create a healthy, economically viable
and sensitive to environmental and social needs hospital for the community of the city of San Francisco de Macoris in the Duarte Province. Located in a region in need of more hospital beds to fully comply with the region’s requirements, this proposal comes to
innovate the currently inadequate medical system of the country, one in which public hospitals struggle to meet the population's health related necessities. With 200 beds, the complex is divided into three main towers connected by a platform and
common healing garden and terrace. Each tower is assigned a specific program with the purpose of avoiding cross contamination. One of the main requirements was to make the design 100% independent of the local energy grid. To achieve this,
the southwestern sides of each tower will be equipped with a translucent polymer skin system that provides shading along with strategically placed PV modules that simultaneously provide energy and additional shading to critical areas in each tower. This skin with
additional PV panels extends to the roofs, adding more shading to the mostly exposed areas to direct solar radiation. In total, the PV panels integrated into the design are meant to generate over 1MW of solar power.

The program complies with the JCI Accreditation Standards for Hospitals. It’s equipped with 25 Commercial spaces, 5 Insurance providers, 5 commercial banks, General Pharmacy, CafÊ with integrated dining, Fast Food area, Florist & Gift Shop,
Children's Clothing, Beauty Salons & Spa. This is the original proposal that my team and I made for the investors. The project is still ongoing and is one I provide consultations for.

This new design was achieved by a series of solar and shading analyses to reduce heat gain. The sides of the building that were mostly affected by direct solar radiation were to be treated with architectural solutions to improve interior shading without sacrificing natural daylight. The solution was to use a combination of vertical solar protection and 1 meter (3 ft) eaves, vegetation for the lower floor shading in the terrace. Lastly a mural displaying the bank’s humble origins that also served as a

mesh shading system for the ground floor. Part of the client’s request was to make use of the Bank’s color scheme (navy blue and orange). I used orange laminated glass combined with the neutrality that sand based brick offers, all assembled in a more dynamic and colorful proposal. The mural was an idea appreciated by the client, as it was proposed to display the bank’s history described by a hired muralist, using the island’s typical naïve painting style. 60

Southwark neighborhood alongside the Thames has a long history, and has also been experiencing significant changes recently. This neighborhood that houses The Shad and that envisions the construction of 279, 000 square
meters of offices, luxury hotels and restaurants, according to Norman Foster´s masterplan, also struggles to reshape itself and, within all its history, continue to offer public collective spaces for common enrichment.
The architecture takes from a set of traditional English cultural and architectural elements and renders them in a contemporary expression. At the Grand Hall we can see a forest of ogival columns that represent
the verticality, the upward impulse, the asceticism and the Gothic tensional effort feeling of English Cathedrals. These columns are an icon of Cathedrals Schools, the sacred gateway to knowledge of many English intellectuals and the foundation of universities.

Victorian Era saw the introduction of steel as a building component blending neo classical conventionality with Egyptian and Oriental themes to produce original structures. The library features a trellis as a contemporary expression of this typical Victorian trend. The pattern used is based on the famous Jam Tart Window
of Saint Edward´s Church, in Kempley, a magnificent exponent of the British Arts and Crafts Movement. At the center of the library is a land depression forming terraces resembling an Elizabethan theatre, by definition an image of openness and culture, where a significant part of English literature was born and performed.

Like the Elizabethan Theatre, that acted as a leveling social factor where no social statements prevented participants from attending, this modern expression aims to be a versatile space that may encourage new generations to participate, perform, and create art.
