Packaging Photos for Delivery The Added Value of Packaging Why deliver your images in a boring plastic bag when you can significantly increase their perceived value by packaging them professionally? A small investment on your part (usually less than $1.00), and a little effort, can bring a big return. Single photos such as a 5x7 should be presented to your client in a mount. A photo mount is similar to a greeting card, with an area to hold and display a printed photo. When delivering a single image, it is recommended that the mount be hidden in a few pieces of fluffed tissue and layered in a stand up bag. This presentation is sure to wow your client and allow you a larger return by increasing the value, and thus the price you can charge for that image. Pricing depends on your area and demographic; however, it is widely accepted that an image packaged professionally, as described above, can bring as much as a fifty percent higher return than an image in a plastic bag. Your client will leave your studio with a pretty package they can be proud to carry and that advertises your studio as one of distinction.

Discover the Hidden Values of Imprinting

What is foil imprinting? Foil imprinting, also referred to as hot stamping, is a combination of heat & pressure along with a plate containing type or logo & foil film. A foil imprint is an easy and relatively inexpensive way to advertise your business.

Artwork A foil imprint starts with a black and white image of your logo or special type set. Artwork should be crisp, clean and not contain fine lines, gradients, drop shadows or textures, as these will not produce a desirable result. File formats most acceptable for art include: .pdf, .psd, .jpg, .jpeg, .tif, .tiff, and .eps. As a general rule a minimum of 300 dpi is required for foil stamping. If you do not have art, most imprinters offer graphics departments staffed with professional graphic designers to assist you. Art can usually be cleaned up or recreated for a minimal charge.

Hot Stamping

Once your art is received, a metal die, called a plate is made and is used to transfer the design to the product chosen. A small fee is normal for making the plate; however, this is a one-time charge. Foil stamping plates are kept on file for reuse on future orders.

The process is fairly simple with the proper equipment and skilled operator. The foil film is unrolled and sandwiched between the plate, which has been heated to an appropriate temperature. The plate and product are pressed together and the heat and pressure transfer the foil onto the product. Each item purchased goes through the same process; therefore, when ordering products to be imprinted please allow extra time for completion.

Foil Films The foil that is transferred to your product comes in a variety of color options. Most popular colors include: silver, gold, pewter, blue, red, green, copper, purple, teal metallic or black, orange, yellow & blue non-metallic foils. Many more options exist; please call for availability if you require a color not listed.

photo insert cards and CD/DVD holders all can be imprinted to suit your needs. Adding a foil imprint makes our stock product uniquely your own.

photo packaging terms Base Pages: The pages that attach to the album cover that the photograph is either slipped into or mounted to with the use of an adhesive mat. Cameo Albums: An album that features an oval opening on the cover. Comb Albums: A comb album is a cover with a plastic comb as the binding method for holding pages. Capacity varies based on the size of the comb. Pages for comb albums have a series of slots on the binding edge that align to fit on the comb. Digital Mounts: An easel-back mount geared to hold either vertical or horizontal digital composite images. This product is designed to enhance the overall appearance and increase the value of the image. Die: A studio name or event logo that is etched in metal. A studio die can be used multiple times in the stamping of products without having to be remade. Professional photographers use dies to customize their products. Easel Mounts: An open-faced product usually made of high quality black paper with an embossed decorative foil border of gold, silver or black. These easel-back mounts can be displayed vertically or horizontally. Used by photographers to professionally present a single image. These products fulfill the same purpose as portrait folders; increasing perceived value and enhancing the finished image. Embossed Albums: An album that comes with a raised design on the front cover. Event Folder: A delivery product used for event photography. This slip-in device is easy to use and features a protective cover. Usually made of white paper with printed graphics. This style of folder is specifically designed for proms, cabarets, retirement parties, etc. Hinge Album Cover: This style of album features a wrap around cover for a bound album appearance. Multiple spine sizes accommodate variations in insert capacities, resulting in a truly fitted look with the flexibility to adapt the number of inserts included in a finished album. The base page is held into the album cover by two parallel channels. Flush Mount Album: An album where the photograph is adhered directly to the base page of the album and cannot be removed. These albums typically come with a preset number of base pages that are stitched directly to the album spine. Foil: A clear cellophane with pigmented coloring used in the hot stamping process. Also refers to the color of the border found on folders, mounts and albums.

Folios: A packaging product used by photographers to give their images a finished look. Folios are made from leather or simulated leather amd come in three distinct styles: flush mount, Slip-In and Custom-View. Flush Mount Folio: The photograph is adhered directly onto the folio cover and cannot be removed. Usually available in two or three panels to hold 8x8 or 10x10 prints. Slip-In Folio: The photographs are slipped into a matted padded cover. Usually designed to hold four to twelve images. Custom-View Folios: Similar to the Slip-In folio, except that the mat is not already adhered to the cover. This style of folios allows you to choose mats to fit sizes of photographs to be displayed. Inserts: See Base Pages Leaves: See Base Pages Library Bound Album: A high quality album where the base pages are stitched directly into the album spine. These albums come with a preset number of base pages that are gilded with gold, silver or black. Covers are available either plain or with a window opening. Mats: A decorative paper frame which enhances an image and allows for various sizes of photographs to be displayed in an album. Mats adhere or slip into base pages which are then attached to an album cover. Memory Mates: A moderately priced delivery system used by photographers to professionally present their preschool, school, sports or dance school images. Memory mates will hold an individual 4x5 or 3-1/2x5 and a group 7x5 photographs. With the overall outside size being 8x10, these mounts are perfect for framing or they can stand alone using the pop-out easel back. These products feature creative graphics and designs and compliment Sports Mounts / Folders. Pages: See Base Pages Panel Mounts: A delivery product used for sports or event photography. It is a quick loading reversible mount that features a popout easel back. Usually made of white paper with printed graphics. Portrait Folder: Delivery device that enhances and protects the print. Usually made of high quality black paper with an embossed foil border of gold, silver or black. Post Album: An album that is held together at the binding edge with two or more post screw assemblies. Post albums require pages that match the album covers post configuration with a series of pre-punched holes in each page.

Presentation Products: Products that are used by professional photographers to increase the value of their work. Preview Albums: An album that holds a limited number of images and is used for a variety of purposes. Often made of simulated leather with a comb bound construction, these albums may be used for parent albums, to present senior proofs or family portraits. Proof Books: A professional delivery system to showcase a large quantity of photographic images. Usually comes with acetate slip-in pages and order forms which create an easy ordering system for your clientele. Designed primarily for wedding photography. Self-Stick Albums: See Flush Mount Album. Slip-In Albums: A type of album in which the photograph is slipped directly into the album cover. These albums require no additional mats to display photographs. Sports Mounts / Folders: A delivery system designed to hold dual photographs for sports photography and typically hold a 5x7 / 7x5 image or a 5x7 / 10x8. These mounts often feature colorful and exciting sports motifs, often compliment matching Memory Mates and are used to increase sports package sales. Stamping: The term used when a product will be imprinted with information. Can include: the studio name or logo, city and state and the phone number of a studio. Title Stamping: This refers to the imprinting of a Title on an album. These titles come in a standard size that cannot be altered. There are a number of titles available to choose from. Typeset: A one time setup used for imprinting of studio names; personalization or event stamping on products. Window Albums: An album that features a square opening on the cover. This feature is often found on Library Bound Albums and Flex Hinge Albums.
