ABOUT â&#x20AC;&#x153;THE TYPEWRITERâ&#x20AC;? The same keyboards, typebars together with different color ribbons producing all of my works. By changing ribbons, typewriter can print out different colors and materials of texts on paper sheets. Ribbons can be replaced frequently, but matrix and typebars are irreplaceable. Creativity and schema as typewriter, with my own matrix and typebars to punch different types of media as color ribbons to tell pretty stories on paper sheets. Structure of typewriter express my means to produce works and creations perfectly. Me together with my schema and core of mind interact with plenty of media producing the works that showing in this portfolio, THE TYPEWRITER.

CHEN, HUEI TAI Author of portfolio Born in April 1989 in Chiayi, Taiwan Studied at Department of Advertising of National Cheng Chi University, Taiwan. Majored in Muti-Media Creation and Public Relation. Studying graduate school of Institute of Applied Art in National Chiao Tung Unversity, Taiwan. I am interested in writing, photography and graphic design. I hope that I can enhance my ability to deal with video, motion graphic and digital interactive design, so that can make my ability of storytelling more diverse than now. I want to establish a solid foundation of knowledge about graphic design. I like to write articles about my daily life, and released regularly on my blog, because I think showing texts on blog only is too boring, so that I do a lot of illustrations to match these articles. Some of my design works came from my articles.I love design, but always figure some words and stories that appear earlier than come out pictures of design works. This kind of thinking pattern is unusual between the students that study in design field. Reading and imagination are two of the most beautiful and important things around the world.

TAIWAN LION PRESERVATION PROJECT Taiwanese Lion Dance is a unique performance to Taiwanese traditional culture, but this old tradition is difficult to attract the young generations’ attention, let alone convey the traditional value to next generation. So, we transferred the Taiwan Lion Dance into a real, existing but endangered animal in Taiwan. I tried to refine the information about Taiwan Lion Dance, and used graphic design as a tool to convey such information to the audience. Using a more vivid way to introduce traditional culture than before. Preservations should not only focus on the endangered animals in Formosa, which include leopard and Formosan black bear, these “real animals”, but also highlighted on Taiwan Lion, a species fo endangered lion and their important traditions.

AUTOPORTRAIT The book consists only one paragraph spanning 112 pages, and includes that one declarative sentence after another, each of which reveals some new fact about its author, the late French writer and conceptual photographer Edouard Levé. I transfer this concept of reading this oneparagraph-books into a process to assembly elements of a complex camera. Readers have to open a dark box in order to see all elements of camera clearly. Then, readers pick up tools (select different reading circumstances) and start to read this unique book. I seperate characters into several squres and put into an 3×3 component boxes on each pages. After assemble all the elements together, readers can get a camera to look into the inner most part of Edouard Levé and get much more close to him than before.

HARD-BOILED WONDERLAND AND THE END OF THE WORLD Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World are two separate internal and external world of protagonist. Hard-Boiled Wonderland reminds me the RED color, and the End of the World makes me thinks of blue. After I read the story, I can not clearly distinguish two worlds that exist inside and outside. So, when I designed the cover, I switch two colors intentionally to highlight this puzzle. Two circles represent the turning point of these two world, a small town continuous melting, and started to contact with another world. These things are so fragile like ballons. Existence of the unicornâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s horn in a short distance wait quietly .

START FROM HERE START FROM HERE is setting by author as a “Classic” photography tool book. This book describes that when each person taking photos, they have to put more emphases on the process of thinking rather than pursuiting to buy expensive photographic equipments. The motivation of taking photos should focus on the reason why to shoot. Photofraphy should express ones point of view, rather than purely virtuoso. So, following this concept, I think the origin of photography is “Pinhole Photography“. If you can catch the true meaning of photography, even you have only pinhole photographic equipments, you can still take an awesome photo.

TOURIST MAP OF TAITUNG COUNTY Taitung County is a county in eastern Taiwan. While its name means “Eastern Taiwan”, it is also known as “Houshan” by many of the locals, meaning behind the mountains or the back mountains. Taitung is officially administered as a county of the Taiwan R.O.C. It is a scenic county next to the Pacific Ocean, which is a nice travel spot for people who want to escape from hustle and bustle urban areas.

Daylily Mountain was formerly called Taimali Mountain. It was renamed as Daylily Mountain due to its abundant production of needle daylily and also one of the three largest places of production of needle mushrooms in Eastern Taiwan. From August to September every year, it is the abundant production season of the needle mushrooms; all over the hills are glistening yellow flowers of needle daylilys swaying in the wind and it is the best time for watching this seasonal nature beauty. As a result, the good reputation of Daylily Mountain is widely publicized. Ali Ma Tribe is located in the school campus of Xinxing Elementary School surrounded by green forest mountains and swirling sounds of cicadas. It is a good place to visit if you want to know more about the cultural beauty of Paiwan Tribe. Everywhere on the ground, you can see the colored paintings and stone paintings. Everywhere is the works of art of Paiwan Tribe Totem characters.

The huge earthenware stationed at the entrance of Jinfeng Township is the indicator for entering into the Zhengxing Tribe. The ceramic door plates on every household are the pottery works of such families. There are earthenware pots and earthenware pots shaped signs everywhere in the tribe and is known as the “Home Town of Earthenware”. The land tribe still preserves the traditional Aboriginal Community Style. Inside the village, there are the Aboriginal Wooden Carving houses, Artists houses, houses of the cultural workers and traditional tribe leaders. Within the community, many of the households have become the existing museums, presenting the cultural arts of Paiwan Tribe and local prehistoric cultural sites. Chenggong Fishery Harbor is also called Singang Fishery Harbor, is the most important, largest fishing port of East Coast; famous for its fresh seafood, and dried fishes.

Dapo Pond is the mountain valley formed by the two huge mountains of Central Mountain Range and Coastal Mountain Range approaching close together. The pond water outflows north as one of the stream source of Xiuguluan River. It is the main wetlands of East Rift Valley, with sound effects on ecological conservations. Through special design, it has been developed into a foot walking and bicycling water park.

The valley of Central Mountain Range and Coastal Mountain Range intersection. If you want to experience the flying pleasure and fun of Paragliding and Hot Air Balloon, you definitely must come here! The first Hot Air Balloon Carnival of Taiwan was held grandly in July, 2011 at Lu Yeh. In this event, 20 hot air balloons from 8 overseas countries and locally were invited and the balloons had dyed the sky of Taitung into beautiful colors.

It is the first environmental park in Taiwan established by the Guanshan Environmental Water Park by utilizing the air pollution control fee. It covers an area of around 32 hectares. Make use of the Hsin Wu Lu Rivers and rich underground stream origins to develop a water park full of rustic style. It offers recreational activities as in water splashing, park tour and bicycling.

FALLING INTO MINDFLOW / INTERNATIONAL PSYCHOLOGY CONFERENCE There are two different schools of psychology trying to explain what is the state of mind flow. They debate to each other strongly. So, I put theories of one school horizontally on the poster, and the theories of the other school vertically. Futher more, I use two contrast colors to strangthen the conflict between these two schools. Flow is the mental state of operation in which a person performing an activity is fully immersed in a feeling of energized focus, full involvement, and enjoyment in the process of the activity. In essence, flow is characterized by complete absorption in what one does. Proposed by Mihály Csíkszentmihályi, the positive psychology concept has been widely referenced across a variety of fields.

Human eat too much fish, much more than we actually need. TFSDA wants to notice people the crisis of resources of ocean are running out. If We don’t change our patterns to eat fish, If we don’t start to protect ocean resouce, there will almost have no any creatures but JELLYFISH in the sea after 2050 A.D. I designed a folded poster that carry in the magzines that introduce people about delicious foods. Showing the pictures about Katien Sushi to tell people the idea that even Katien Sushi moves so slow, but still much more faster than fish grow. I think that audience will notice this poster is introducing about delicious food at first, then they will find that ‘’delicious food’’ is comes from over fishing with nets, and read the statics and infomation about overfishing.

HOW TO FOLD THE POSTER

TAIWAN INSENCE (PACKAGE AND MANNUAL) Taiwan insence is a traditional religious instrument. This project try to introduce this Taiwanese tradition to foreigners. I emphasize the function, which is communication to Gods of Taiwan Insence. And make Taiwan Insence become an electronic communication tool. When using Taiwan Insence, there are many hidden meaning can be interpreted during the burning process by followers. I collect and refine the religious rules making them as a eletronic mannual, and using minimum illustrations to convey these rules to the audience.

THE TRIO Freedom of speech is the political right to communicate oneâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s opinions and ideas. In some countries, freedom of speech is still a dream waiting for people to trace. Even in Taiwan, a democratic country, freedom of speech is still interfered by some invisible power. If this kind of interfere exist, the true meaning of the messages will never convey to people directly. I use the form of book as a metaphor to express the vanish of some important spirits. Frames are stable, but the contents are burned out by powerholders already. Is the book still be a book? Or it just become a plastic model?

REST IN PEACE! MY FRIENDS (CD) Different kinds of deaths occur in every single moments of our lives. Some people loss their real lives, others abandon to trace their dreams and faiths. This album is a elegie to these friends. Even friends left, but the artist, Breakbot, keep fighting for his dream. I use the domino analogy with cross and different colors to indicate different types of death. When users take CD out, dominos start to fall down simultaneously. Lyrics cards is using the concept of Pantone swatches to emphasis rich colors of songs deaths.

A ROMANTIC RIDE WITH LIGHTWEIGHT TRUCK (CD) This Band was formed at 2010 in Tokyo, Japan. This is the first contact between them and me, but when I heard their melodies at the same time, it can clearly makes me feel easy and relax. Like a slow ride with a group of young fellows singing and drinking beer together. There is a small space on cargo area, which can play guitar to sing and laugh happily. On the road, a black dog witnessing all this incident happening, it is also part of this romantic ride.

So, I use target and arrowhead as primary visual image, then combine the letter â&#x20AC;&#x153;Aâ&#x20AC;&#x153;, which is a shorthand from advertising together. When people try to develop an advertising strategy, they have to equip a cool head. Execute a creation requires a lot of enthusiasm, combine calm and wisdom on behalf of the blue, and red of passion together. A successful advertising base on a clear direction, calm thinking and full of enthusiasm.

Dear Suzuki

Baseball is a bat-and-ball sport played between two teams of nine players. The aim is to score runs by hitting a thrown ball with a bat and touching a series of four bases arranged at the corners of a 90-foot diamond. Players on the batting team take turns hitting against the pitcher of the fielding team, which tries to stop them from scoring runs by getting hitters out in any of several ways. A player on the batting team can stop at any of the bases and later advance via a teammate's hit or other means. The teams switch between batting and fielding whenever the fielding team records three outs. One turn at bat for each team constitutes an inning and nine innings make up a professional game. The team with the most runs at the end of the game wins.

Evolving from older bat-and-ball games, an early form of baseball was being played in England by the mid-eighteenth century. This game was brought by immigrants to North America, where the modern version developed. By the late nineteenth century, baseball was widely recognized as the national sport of the United States. Baseball is now popular in North America, parts of Central and South America and the Caribbean, and parts of East Asia.

DEATH IS NOT AN EVENT IN LIFE: WE DO NOT LIVE TO EXPERIENCE DEATH dwig Wittgenstein said that â&#x20AC;&#x153;Death is not an event in life: we do not live to experience death. If we take eternity to mean not infinite temporal duration but timelessness, then eternal life belongs to those who live in the present.â&#x20AC;? In Taiwan, most of people afraid of discussing about death because they think that if people keep talking about death will lead some bad fortune. I think people in Taiwan should change their attitude toward death. We should discuss these stuffs before we dead. Just in case we have no chance to say somthing important. When we start to discuss, death is not so horrible anymore. The ghost festival might be a perfect opportunity to start this issue.

THE SMELL When I get in the store, I smell a strong smell from wooden floor and wall. If I have enough knowledge, I can tell what kind of wood is and what characteristics of that kind of species are. Maybe these live in particular area of mountain. Feeding a great amount of animals. Smell is a magical sense. It comes from some small particles randomly surround in the air. They hang out willfully. There are many, many different kinds of smell around the world. Smells come from leather. Smells come from soap that attach on skin. Smells come from sweaty shirts. Smells come from your lover. Smells come from coffee cup. Smells come from fingertips. The huge rain occurs at summer afternoon can also bring the smell come out from hot blacktop. You can avoid looking, hearing, but you can never smelling unless you hold your breath forever. Such an important function in life, is it? Smell like a big hook that can appeal your memories come out from the deepest closet in your mind.

COFFEE MAKE THINGS HAPPEN To-do-list is as long as Andes Mountains, but I cannot even to move one of my finger. Needless to mention the brain, I cannot distinguish any particular parts of it, like a puddle of smooth and warm paste. It is hard to describe this situation. So, I drink bulk amount of coffe. There is nothinh happen yet. But some good things might happen in the next second. Hard to say that, right?Letâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s wait a second, waiting for the magic of coffee occurs.

RUN OUT OF MY MIND In fact, physics is not as difficult as people imagine. The physic phenomena are around our life. When subjects moving, they need kinetic energy to push them on. After operating, friction step onto the stage and thermal energy comes out. Here comes some problems when subject going too hot. Computers might crash. WIres might show short circuits Machines might melt. Tyres might break. Knees might wear out. If the human brain overheating, what kind of hidden stuff will melted? I am so curious about the consequence that after people torture their brain...
