How to Tell if Your Employees Consider you a Good Leader

In the world of business today, there is a big difference between being a boss and being a leader. A boss simply manages their employees to ensure things are getting done and everything is running along as usual. A leader is much more than that, a leader is someone who is truly involved with their team, they are someone who motivates and inspires everyone to meet their goals with perfection.

Teams being guided by leaders go on to produce better results than those being guided by bosses. Being the leader of a SignWorld business is no different.

The following is a list of essential practices to follow to transform yourself from being just another boss, into being a great leader. If you are using these correctly, your SignWorld employees will respond to you in a very positive manner, resulting in higher productivity, terrific employee morale, and a better workplace in general.

1. Listenmore – A boss talks more than they listen. A leader will listen more than they talk. Taking the time to listen to your team will allow you to understand the wants and needs of your employees and will make them open up to you more. 2. Say “we” more often than “I” – A leader knows they must give credit when credit is due. This makes the team feel included and work their hardest on the tasks they are given. 3. Encouragement vs criticism – Nothing is worse than being told you are doing something wrong over and over again. A leader is always giving words of encouragement to their employees, and taking notice when they are doing exceptional work. 4. Having a sense of humor – A sense of humor in the work place is important to have as your employees will feel comfortable and more open knowing that their leader understands business is important but that there should always be time made to tell a good joke and be funny. 5. Asking for advice – Nobody enjoys dealing with a know-it-all. Show your team that you trust your employees and value their input. Be sure to include them in problem solving and decision making. Additionally, if you choose not to use their advice, you must clearly explain to them why. 6. Motivate employees beyond money– Money is obviously a good motivator. However, most people can be motivated by more than just dollar signs. Being a good leader means finding out what these things are and using them as a catalyst for improved quality of work. 7. Ask your team for more – Show your team you believe that they are capable of anything. Ask them to step outside their comfort zone and push harder. They will respond in a positive manner and they will show you that they are capable of anything 8. Their needs before your own – As a great leader you must show your team that their needs come before yours, even if this means some sacrifice. An exceptional leader is always the last one out the door, showing that they are completely dedicated to their business. Put yourself on the right path today by adhering to these practices and you will notice a positive change in your employees as they think of you as not just a boss – but a great leader.
