Antiphospholipid Antibody Syndrome - Causes And Symptoms
Antiphospholipid antibody syndrome is a kind of antibody syndrome that affects immune system of the body. These disorders occur if the body’s immune system attacks its own antibodies and damage tissues or cells. It is basically a kind of protein that defends the body against infections. In this problem, the body builds its own antibodies that attack phospholipids - a kind of fat. The phospholipids are found in living cells and membrane, which encompass blood cells and lining of the blood vessels. When the antibodies wage a war against phospholipids, the cells are devastated. This devastation in turn leads to formation of clots in various organs like arteries and vein. The arteries are blood pumping organs and hence they are crucial. Blood Clotting is a process that wraps bruises and other small breaks in the vessel walls. Due to blood clotting, one does not lose excessive blood. However, in antiphospholipid syndrome there is too much blood clotting and this in turn reduces blood flow to the vital organs. Majority of the people have antiphospholipid antibodies, but it does not signify that they have disease of APS. This is a genetic disorder and you need to have medical history of the same. Further, this disease can lead to several health related problem like heart attack, stroke, pulmonary damage, kidney damage, other problems. It can also cause complications during pregnancy like premature birth that follows preeclampsia. It is a serious problem that causes seizure in pregnant woman. People who are suffering from this problem develop blood clots within few months and this condition is also called as Catastrophic Antiphospholipid Syndrome. People who have this problem are at a higher risk of other disease called as thrombocytopenia. It is a condition in which your blood is at a lower level as compared to normal fragments also called as platelets. Antibodies in turn devastate platelets or they enhance the clotting process. It can also lead to mild to serious bleeding. It can be disastrous. DEATH may be the result of the large blood clots in the heart, lungs and brain. This problem can occur at any age. However, this repercussion occur more in women as compared to man. These disorders primarily affect muscle, joints and bones. APS has no ideal
cure, but medicine may lead to complications. Medicines prevent the formation of blood clots and prevent these clots from getting big. This treatment is for a long term. If you are suffering from other auto immune disorder, it is necessary to control that condition equally well. When other condition is controlled, APS may cause less problems. The other name of this disease is Antiphospholipid Syndrome, Hughes Syndrome, Apl syndrome, ACL syndrome, Anticardiolipin Antibody Syndrome, Lupus Anticoagulant Syndrome, etc.
Treatment Additional dose of antibodies may lead to another kind of health disorder called as systemic lupus erythematosus and antiphospholipid syndrome. Usually tests are carried on before the full diagnosis is done, because it sometimes may show negative results especially during the process of thrombosis. Majority of the people, are signalled positive on antiphospholipid antibodies test, does not need any special treatment. It is commonly found in even healthy person and is not completely known why these antibodies are produced. Sometimes, it may occur due to certain drugs. Presence of antibodies does not mean that person is going to develop such illness.
