Healthy Diet can Reduce Pain in RA You must have read lots and lots of articles earlier that give information about the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis when it is detected at early stage. But I really feel that, many times we read so many articles but we don’t get right information. I am trying to provide you information about the healthy diet and dos & don’ts for rheumatoid arthritis patients. Hope this will help you to reduce the problems of your joints. Rheumatoid arthritis or RA is actually an autoimmune ailment which shows a chronic inflammation in joints. While swelling of the tissue around particular joints & inflammatory arthritis are showing typical features of rheumatoid arthritis, this ailment can also the reason of tenderness and damage in other organs in the body. Many people take steroids to avoid pain and to strengthen the tissues, but taking steroids will never be the solution on this problem. When we say diet, many people will say Yes, I do follow diet, but only diet is not important or effective but we say a “Healthy Diet” is required to reduce the problem. Now what does that mean? It means a diet which will reduce the tenderness, multiple joint pains, redness and other symptoms of RA. A healthy diet includes all that food which you should intake in a day. Many people would say, I love eating, I just can’t do dieting then how will it reduce the symptoms? Then the answer is, if you want to get well or atleast reduce the symptoms of your problems then you will have to accept a healthy lifestyle and healthy diet. You will have to adopt this healthy lifestyle and healthy diet for rest of your life as adopting a wrong lifestyle can be like an invitation for the problem.
Dos and Don’ts: Always use hot water for bath. If in summer you feel more irritated because of sweating then instead of hot water you can use Luke warm water but do not use cold water.
Try to avoid going into the cold breeze. Totally avoid frozen food. Avoid eating opposite food like lemon with milk or curd with jaggery, milk with fish etc. Do not control nature calls. Try to avoid afternoon naps and late night sleeping. Try to massage your body every alternate day with warm medicated sesame oil. Do not use harsh medicines or antibiotics unless it’s too much required. Clean your bowels regularly. Try to include some physical activity like walking, yoga, pranayam or light stretching exercises which are not painful but will keep your body warm and flexible. Stay away from constipating food.
Healthy Diet:
Drink ample of water (Atleast 8-10 glasses regularly) Consume dry ginger powder 1 tablespoon with Luke warm water regularly after your meals. You can even eat a piece of ginger every day after your meal. Consume bitter gourd atleast twice in a week. Do not eat jaggery, curd, and fish. Avoid sugar & refined carbs & sweet food. Avoid much salted food like chips etc. Eat organically grown vegetables and fruits. Drink lots of soups like broccoli soup, corn soup, mix green vegetable soups etc. Eat early and sleep early. Atleast keep 1.5 hour to 2 hours gap between the meal and sleep. Eat vitamin D- rich food.
